Square and Microsoft have many issues to work out. Namely, not requiring Live Gold to play XIV.

If they do a 360 version, it should be on Games on Demand 'exclusive' - your going to need an online connection anyway.

You won't get it because it will cause the xbox to RRoD instantly.

@mywhitenoise

Downvote me for asking a question? FFXI was on 360, so I simply asked. And the whole "which has only been announced on PS3 and PC" was referring to beta access, not the game's release. You need to grow up and learn to respect something as simple as a question.

Or maybe it did refer to the game's release, but the wording is strange. Either way, ridiculous reason to downvote my question.

Doubtful. FFXI is playable on the 360 without a gold subscription.

@Sonos:

From PS3 Blog: ". . .just a reminder that PS3 will be the only console you’ll be able to play FINAL FANTASY XIV when it launches in 2010."

Also that article you linked source someones resume for the "fact" that XIV was coming to 360. A programmer's resume is a long way off from being an official announcement, and the blog you cited should be ashamed far using that source as definitive proof of XIV on the 360.

FFXIV will most definitely be available for the 360, eventually. The 360 is capable of running the game, in fact "Project Rapture" originally began development on the 360.

Microsoft made the FFXI PlayOnline exception to get a Final Fantasy title on the 360, which is aided by the fact that it uses the ported PlayOnline software to get players online, but this is not the case yet with FFXIV (which does not use PlayOnline). Microsoft and Square Enix need to work out the method of getting FFXIV players online without requiring Xbox Live Gold.

This is the one and only thing keeping FFXIV from the 360. Sony did not pay for exclusivity for the game, nor does Square Enix have any desire for the game to be exclusive to PS3. It is not in the interest of Square Enix or any MMORPG publisher to keep the software out of the hands of as many potential subscribers, especially for the sake of console loyalty (which Square Enix does not have to anyone).

"PS3 will be the only console to play FFXIV on when it launches" = FFXIV will not be available at launch for the 360, but eventually will be available.

Well just like any other multiplayer ability you need gold. So I see no reason to not release it on the 360 then figure out a future plan for people without gold. Seems even the mention of this being on 360 gains nothing but downvotes though due to some hive mind that it's a ridiculous idea. So we'll just see how it pans out.

What don't you get about: "...but just a reminder that PS3 will be the only console you’ll be able to play FINAL FANTASY XIV when it launches in 2010."

That's from the blog that this article links to. Therefore...they are only saying its exclusive at the release date. That statement heavily implies that it will be going to other systems later on.

I want this so bad but I've already got my 2010 $300 planned out.

1.) MAG (successfully purchased)
2.) ModNation Racers
3.) Dead Rising 2
4.) Final Fantasy XIV
5.) SOCOM 4

Believe me when I say I know I'm missing out on a ton of great games that I originally had planned on buying. Curse you 2010!!!

Yeah, but 2011 will probably be slow, apart from the final games in the soon-to-be-dead Call of Duty series, so you can get them then.

Hopefully it's slow since I want Heavy Rain, FF13, GOW3, new COD (only if they continue a Nazi zombie mode), Dantes Inferno, Dragon Age add-ons and DLC, Mafia 2, L.A. Noire, Lost Planet 2, GT 5, GTA: The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, etc... What did I miss LOL

I hear ya, fetcher. I hope they don't turn it into a action-fest in a hope of getting more sales. They'll likely lose more fans than gain new ones on that strategy.

@weskerwannabe: I was excited for Fallout: New Vegas until I saw screenshots of the same old craptastic Oblivion engine they used for Fallout3. I really, really wish Interplay or someone would take over the franchise, Bethesda is way too cheap. Don't even get me started on the voice acting (or lack thereof).

I hope you weren't applying that link towards me because A) I'm not even WHITE in in the first place and B) I prefer to watch anime in a language I can understand and if it's in Japanese I would watch it with subtitles. Oh yeah and as you can see from my picture above all things I'm a Star Wars fangirl, not a "blasian. Thanks for proving your ignorance and your racist tendencies.

I'd personally rather have an avatar item than some wizard robe for an MMO that I'll never play.

That said, if I do get FFXIII, I'll probably get the PS3 version.

"A potential opportunity? So there's a chance that there's a chance we'll be able to get into the beta? Well that's slightly better than no chance of a chance, we suppose."

Really Joystiq? Still after all this time you have to take a jab at the PS3. It's not 2007 or 2008 anymore, it is 2010 and the PS3 exclusives (just like I said they would) are running circles around the 360 with the latest GOW3 looking so far ahead of anything else out the PS3 or 360. It must hurt sitting in your 360 underoos playing PS3 exclusives for the eye candy and gaming goodness you used to get from your precious 360.

"Well that's slightly better than no chance of a chance, we suppose."

Like the NO chance of the 360 version? Without knowing any details on a just announced perk for the PS3 version you have to take your witty jab at it to satisfy the droves of 360 fans that visit this site.

Face it Joystiq, I was right in 2007, 2008, I was right that the PS3 is on a different level, I was right that PS3 exclusives would put the 360 to shame.

But go ahead if it makes you feel better to pretend it is still 2 years ago and the 360 is king, and all is right with the world when you come up with these oh so clever jabs at Sony and the PS3.

FRACKING children you are.
