Last night, during the -- super awkward -- Final Fantasy XIII launch party in San Fransisco, Sony's Rob Dyer took a big shot across the bow of any Microsoft representatives in the audience by promising a pending announcement of exclusive content for the PS3 version of the game.
Today, on PlayStation Blog, Dyer revealed that the PS3 version includes a "secret in-game item" for Final Fantasy XIV -- a similar, or perhaps the same promotion offered in Japan. Additionally, PS3 players can enter for a chance to beta test Final Fantasy XIV, which has only been announced for PS3 and PC.
The in-game item might be interesting (baby chocobo vanity pet, please), but we're not really enthralled by a "potential opportunity" to get in on the beta. A potential opportunity? So there's a chance that there's a chance we'll be able to get into the beta? Well that's slightly better than no chance of a chance, we suppose.

Now now, not *all* the fans of the PS3 are THIS stupid.
That's like me judging all 360 fans just based off the loudest and dumbest of the xbox live community... if I did that, then I'd have to assume that "all" 360 lovers are horrid middle schoolers who need to call people "gey" to make them feel better about their lives, and they're not *all* like that ;3
As usual, there are a couple idiots on both sides

for the PC beta, you'd have to apply via their website. www.ffxiv.com

Quick question: If one uses a FFXIV code from the PS3 version of FFXIII, does that mean they are applying for the PS3 version of FFXIV? Or can they choose between PC and PS3?

You can pick on the application. There's a check box asking whether you would rather beta on PS3 or PC, then later, there's a check box (you can choose both) for which system you will play the full release on.

The PC Beta doesn't require a promo code. The PS3 beta does. Unfortunately, you can only select one or the other (so if you previously signed up for the PC beta, the PS3 beta application will delete the old PC beta).

Well a 'chance' to beta FFXIV is kinda ridiculous. Why not just have a beta entry for everyone that bought it instead? We're basically the beta testers when they do this. Wouldn't the more the merrier be the best thing for a MMORPG?

Delete the spaces between each four digit sequence. For some reason, it's limited to 20 keystrokes and counts the spaces, so when you copy-paste, you include four keystrokes of space. Remove spaces, manually type the last four digit sequence from your code, bada-bing, bada-boom, you're good to go.
Strange thing to copy-paste a code and not have it work straight off, but it's an easy fix.

After putting in the amount of hours in Runes of Magic I just can't see myself paying for a monthly service anymore. These games need to be free to play online if they want to survive in the console market.

has anyone noticed the lack of dualshock3 vibrations during the game, or is it just me?

I mentioned this earlier in the comments thread, but I'll say it again: delete the spaces between the four digit sequences. SE didn't fail, they just set it up so you only have room for 20 keystokes, including the spaces. Redo it without spaces and it works fine.
