Agreed with Jiffy. These ARE sold from Square's perspective. If they don't sell from retail, well... That's the retailers fault for overing over stock.

I got my copy yesterday and I promised to myself that I would not play the game till I finished God of War 3 ... well that didn't happen and all I can say is that FFXIII it is pretty awesome :)

My situation reminds me this PA strip: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2010/3/10/

I didn't notice any cover art, just a thick book, registration card, and 3 disc.

I bought the 360 version, and I know that I'm going to catch flak from this from the diehard PS3 supports, or in more unpleasant terms, 'fanboys', but:

I own both a PS3 and a 360. I bought the 360 version in hopes of supporting/ensuring that more titles would become multiplatform. Gaming should not be about 'zomg I'm better because I own this system I'm the only one that deserves this game don't take it from meeeeee'. Exposure to a broader audience is a /good/ thing.

That said--I'm not noticing a large visual difference, but then, I'm only about 2 hours in. And I'm loving it--can't wait for the battle system to pick up.

...under no circumstances should you be concerned whether the 360 gets a port. That's almost always a given except where Konami is concerned.

I bought the PS3 version because I support better technology and I want the best version available. I played Bayonetta on the 360 becuase I wanted to play the best version, with your logic I guess I should have stuck with the PS3.

So... you bought it on the PS3 to ensure more subpar ports?

What exactly are you "not noticing a large visual difference" between? Given that you bought only one copy? No visual difference between your 360 version and... a Famitsu scan?

FF13 on the X360 is by no means a subpar port. If you want to see a subpar port, take a glance at Two Worlds from PC to 360, or Orange Box on PS3. Those are subpar ports.

FF13 on 360 has aliasing issues, upscaling issues, not to mention it's on three discs...

@Tom: Your reasons are perfectly reasonable and I agree with you about multiplatforming to a certain extent, only because exclusive games is what sells consoles and tend to be of a better quality that some multiplatforms. However, I am on the over side of the fence if you will. Just to quote a statement from you, "in hopes of supporting/ensuring that more titles would become multiplatform." I just find myself somewhat displease by this. Not because of you, of course but by past and present situations regarding Square and their "multiplatforming."

I got my PS3 at launch simply because all the companies and series I enjoyed on PS2 were pretty much guaranteed to be on PS3: Final Fantasy, MGS, DMC, etc. FFXIII was automatic for me at annoucement but I soon see that Square Enix is paying a lot of attention to Microsoft. Releasing game after game exclusively on 360: Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant, and formerly Star Ocean 4. I find myself thinking, "Square, what about the PS fanbase?" (fanbase, not fanboys). I just feel that Square was just leaving the PS fanbase like dust in the wind and it saddens me.

FFXIII is probably the first real attention in a released game that Square has paid any attention to Sony since launch of this generation. I do hope that XIII sells more on the PS3 even if it just a small amount simply because to get Square a wake up call saying, "Hey Square, remember all those PS fans from the last 2 generations that loved your games? Guess what? We're still here." Granted, some of the exclusively PS2 owners are now exclusively X360 owners. But for the most part if you had a PS2 then they probably have a PS3. I want both systems to do well regardless.

Sorry for the walls of text but I need to express myself.

Replace PS with Nintendo and you'll see my younger self a decade ago.

Square didn't leave Nintendo, Nintendo left Square.

By backing the cartridge format, Sakaguchi's hand was forced. FFVII would not have been as memorable on the N64.

Final Fantasy Tactics only had I Disc, as far as I remember. And seeing that game also on the N64 would have been nice, but.... whatever.

The point is that Square-Enix, or the Final Fantasy series, never were really attached to a console.

Tactics is 552 MB, roughly.

That's not going to fit on an N64 cartridge. DS cartridges barely hold that much today.

I randomly went to my Best Buy at like 1pm and there were 4 people there picking up the game. That amused me. Three of us got it on the PS3 and one dude had it for the 360.

@Limited_Vertigo just like MS is blindly thrown money away in trying to win customer support in japan.so you can say they are both using one another.

After playing so many sandbox clones, linearity is a welcomed break. Sometimes I just want to play a video game and not worry whether Decision A will screw me over 10 hours from now or whether grinding in Zone B is a more worthwhile for gaining experience than Zone C.

First off i bought my first FF game ever, which happen to be 13. i bought it for the 360 & i am in amazement at how beautiful this game looks, everything from the begging to the cut scenes are all beautiful.as for the disc change i have no issue's with getting up or off my ass to change a disc,no big deal. i hope squareE continues to support MS w/more FF games.but thier is one thing i don't like or maybe i need to get use to is the fight or battle game play, not to crazy about this you attack ,then i attack way of play.but all & all this is a great port of a game.

Those suprised that the game is selling better one PS3 compare to the xbox are clueless. It was written in the sky. Beside some hardcore / longtime gamers, Final Fantasy 13 is the first FF game on the Xbox platform. For many of the 360 owner, they have no clue what Final Fantasy is.

For Sony, all of the previous FF since FFVII came out on a sony platform so of course, the culture of the FF games are well known amoung Sony customers. It was expected that at first, PS3 owners would know more about Final Fantasy and buy it more on that platform than on 360.

"For many of the 360 owner, they have no clue what Final Fantasy is."

Are you implying that there's a significantly-large segment of the gaming population that either started with the 360 or that have never seen the words "Final Fantasy" in a review/article/advertisement, let alone spoken to someone who has knowledge of the series?

I find it hard to believe that owning a console makes you oblivious to everything that isn't published on that console.

I agree with your statement, but your logic is not quite right. The fact is, people have been buying the PS3 for YEARS in anticipation of this game. For example, Final Fantasy is one of the main reasons I bought my 60-gig launch PS3. On the other hand, it has only been multi-platform for the last year or so.

I'm sure when all the numbers do come in we will see that the PS3 is the clear winner in the version people picked up as when I went to the midnight launch everyone there but one person was picking up the PS3 version!

Well deserved. I've already got 11 hours into this game and I just can't stop playing, it's definitely one of the better games of the series. I had my doubts but it's amazing. I honestly can't believe some of the reviews it got... Most of the lower scored reviews seem to complain that it's too different from the other games in the series, so let me get this straight, they say JRPGs need to evolve but when one does they say it's too different?

That's why I hate (most) game critics, they're either hypocrites or just some gamer that landed a job at a gaming website and call themselves journalists... Ugh.

Now back to Final Fantasy
