"The Shoot" is a pretty fun title. The on-rails shooter propels you through a series of cheesy movie sets, populated by cardboard cut-out civilians, antiquated B-movie aliens and hulking robots. And then you shoot them ... on the shoot. See? What's more fun than a title with a double meaning?
Although the title is a riot, my time with the game left me feeling disappointed and annoyed. Lightgun shooters have a comfy home on Wii, and the point-and-shoot mechanics of games like House of the Dead: Overkill are a natural fit for the controller. The PlayStation Move is similarly well-suited, both in terms of aiming ability and comfortable weighting. But "The Shoot" felt like a second-rate shooting range, marked by a slow pace and obvious simplicity.
Those can't be trotted out as negatives for every gamer, but if you're a Joystiq reader, there's something you have to know: In order to activate a useful slow-motion effect in "The Shoot," you have to -- I'm not kidding -- spin around on the spot like a ballerina with an ice-cream cone in her hand. I imagine Sony would like to separate its motion controller from the Wii's stigma of vapid, gestural-overload games, so pulling an early-days Wii stunt like that makes for a bad impression.

Wait, you mean you aren't supposed to spin around on the spot like a ballerina with an ice-cream cone in her hand in every game? Well crap, I thought it gave me some kind of edge in Bad Company 2, you know... Like the bullets would just whiz past my character, as if some sort of black voodoo magic had just taken place.

The PS Move is really upsetting me. I'm worried that companies who would normally take advantage of the Wii's unique controls will now bypass the system in favor of the more technically superior PS3, meaning no more awesome Wii exclusives and definitely no more hardcore.

Fuzunga,
I think you've got it all wrong. Wii has huge install base, but companies are afraid of taking risks with the system in investing in a huge blockbuster style action motion control game.
Now, they can use a lot of the assets for more PS3 and Wii. Yeah, the wii version will look like a PS2 version, but the voice acting, a lot of mechanics, marketing (this is a huge component of game development) will all pull double duty.
This is good for the wii gamer. Of course all the lame games will also be duplicated up to PS3 level, hopefully for cheap PSN downloads, but I think we'll also see some awesome AAA titles go multi.
Only problem is that the Wii's control is not very precise on the fly for me, which means AutoAimX1000

I think it works out well actually. Even though there are a few people who's like to play 'hardcore' games on the Wii, it's really not the majority of the Wii owners. I naturally think of Madworld, which was a good game that used the motion controls and is more hardcore (so I hear, not that I've played it). However, it didn't sell well, since many of the Wii owners are casual. Now developers who want to make a game that is both aimed at the hardcore market and has a creative control scheme have an outlet.

I can see how you people think this will benefit Wii... and i agree. The problem is, will developers put in the extra effort of actually creating the Wii version if this should happen?? I don't think so, I'm not sure about that one.
@Locke_Daemonfire: Actually madworld didn't sell that bad hmm... for such a title at least lol.

Given that Move's potentially biggest advantage over the Wii is superior graphics, why do all the Move titles so far (except for Socom) have rubbish visuals? Surely that defeats the entire point of what Sony are aiming for?
I mean, yeah, they look better than most Wii games, but not by much.

It's just a demo.
Obviously, and I mean OBVIOUSLY, you will see PS3 style graphics for this controller.
And I don't think that's the "entire point". This is a much better controller than the wii offers, if the promises pan out at all (And they often don't). The PS3 simply gains another massive feature, and probably sucks up a bunch more buyers.
Your "except for Socom" betrays the problem with your argument. These are demos. like the floating ducks leading to MGS4, the point of pre-alpha is not to set graphics performance records.

You guys are probably right. I hadn't thought of it like that. Although I wonder how motivated companies will be to port their big motion titles from the PS3 to the Wii. And I'm sure the PS3 versions of the Wii crap will probably be direct ports. But we're still talking about ports here. I'll be pretty angry if the Wii stops getting exclusives like MadWorld and No More Heroes. It'll put the Wii in the place the GameCube was in. Sure it had some great games, but almost all of them were first party games. Third parties were more interested in the more hi-tech "hardcore" systems. You COULD play that game on the Wii, but why would you if you had a PS3?
Anyway, we'll see how it all plays out. It's too bad the port of NMH is coming out before the Move. I think it could really benefit. And for that matter, I'm wondering if The Grinder will support Move.

So much for Sony's promise their motion controller games will cater to a more hardcore audience than the Wii. And it's a Move launch game to boot. Jeez... hold off on the goofy shit until you move some Moves, Sony.
Has Young MC gotten a call about appearing in some commercials later this year?
