IMO Final Fantasy XIII is one of the top RPGS IMO. If i had to put it on my list it'd be second on Final Fantasy VIII with XII under it than IX (CG alone anyhoot gameplay i thought just sucked..

1) Final Fantasy VIII
2) Final Fantasy XIII
3) Final Fantasy XII
4) Final Fantasy IX
5) Final Fantasy VIII

Linearity doesn't effect me as much and i understand the storyline very well. It's at time a little hard to follow but it all makes sense later on down the line it becomes easier and easier to negotiate whats going on. While some might not like some of the changes made to the game to me the game is much more enjoyable than again, i like Final Fantasy XI and i am still paying to play it sense 2003 so, that might have something to do with it...

I was watching the GT review and I could not peel my eyes off the mini-map and how every freaking time it was a straight line/path/walkway. Then I learned there were no towns. And after that I learned that the character progression is basically spoon fed to you. I mean, I don't even want to rent this now. I don't ever want to see this game again. Next FF please and thank you.

For you haters who will surely hate - The battle system looked awesome as did the graphics. I am sure the story is amazing as well. But that does not change the facts.

Amazing game, I love it. Spare the linearity and easy talk, the game proves to be increasingly challenging. If you want free roam, open-world gameplay, stick to sandbox and 'pick your path' RPGs. Final Fantasy has never been that kind of RPG, deal with it if you're gonna play it.

This isn't your random encounter FInal Fantasy. It's a good mix of FFXII and FFX. What's funny is that most of the haters on here will still be picking it up. The production value on this game alone is so crazy that it's just fun watching the cutscenes and scenery.

Really? No free-roam open world gameplay in any FF EVER?

And you sounded a bit cynical that I did not like it.

" Final Fantasy has never been that kind of RPG [mm-hmm], deal with it if you're gonna play it."

Yea, that part. You DID read the parts that I admitted looked really good right?

Not sure why everyone is all worked up. We've known since before the game launched in Japan that it was deviating pretty heavily from even FF standards. Then, by FF standards, it was received in Japan fairly luke warmly. Now you're shocked at the scores it's receiving here? Please. Use some common sense. This could be seen coming for months.

I seriously couldn't care less what Eurogamer and Edge think about a game. They're the epitome of elitest press. Not just their scores, but the content of the reviews too. Terrible.

For me this FFXIII was a big disappointment.
These are the ugly things about ff xIII:

1. The voice acting is terrible. So bad that i turn off the sound
2. You can not control voice/music levels.
3. While i like the paradigms the fact that you can not control anyone except your main char during battles is nasty.
4. Everything is so cheesy is not even funny. So cheesy that i am ashamed of playing it. Everything is cheesy characters/the animation and ofc r-tarded voice acting.

Giving this game more than 7/10 is just wrong. I would only rent it to see how bad it is. Seems like lately Square can only produce horrific games.

On a side note maybe i have been spoiled about the quality of the other games new games. UC2/Batman/Darksiders but still even that does not justify the bad quality of the game in production for more than 3 years.

Darksider does not deserve a higher score than FF 13. It's a straight up rip off of Zelda just like Dante Inferno ripping off GoW.

I finished Darksider. While I had fun with it, I really can't give it a higher score than FF. I agreed the VA is bad but most JRPG Voice-Overs are horrible. Imagine a Japanese VA for Mass Effect 2 or DO: Origins, I'm sure it will be horrible too.

UC2 and Batman are great games, but 7/10 is the minimum for a game like FF 13.

I just finished it. And I will give it a 87/100.

Pros
The graphic is amazing
Story is not bad at all
Love the new battle system

Cons
Voice acting for some characters
Weapon and Accessory Upgrade system
Lack of money available in the game

The game is very very straight forward, but I don't see how people bitch about this while praising Mass Effect 2? To me, the entire game of ME 2 was recruit team mates and set out on the final mission. The only freedom was who to recruit first and if you want to accomplish their side stories. In ME 2, you already know this the moment you begin the game while in FF 13, the story develops slowly.

I will just say all RPG fans should play this and ignore all preconceptions. Square-Enix only put alot of work into this game and it shows.

i'm about four hours in and loving it. if all the good stuff is really another 11 hours away i'm stoked because all that means is that it's just going to get better. i was afraid i wasn't going to enjoy just being able to control one character but the fast pace and smoothness of it all makes it feel very polished. i wish there was a way to increase the difficulty but other than that no complaints from me so far.

It's sad how many people are going to buy this because it's of its name and would never touch an RPG otherwise, let alone try Western ones, which have embraced what the term "role-playing" is supposed to mean. "RPG" means take the role of a character and shape the world around you. With all the advacements in gaming, Japanese devs don't seem to wanna let go of this SEGA CD concept of FMV passive gaming.

I'm in the middle of Chapter 2 and love the game, and every main FF title before it. who gives a crap about the review scores....it's Squeenix. and if you don't like it, then I'm sure GameStop will take it off your hands for you and sell it to someone who wants it.....

Just a warning, im mexican so it might sound weird when reading so please bear with me.
I got the game and im already on disc 3 i can say that the story is great the combat system gets better at disc 2 but theres some things I f#@%ing hate let me start with the main one
THE GAME IS A FREAKING LINE OF MOBS i mean i cant be goofing around sightseeing or enter shops to talk to people and hear them say stupid shit, i liked all that about FF's you can be on the middle of the story and still start doing some other things explore teh world try to cheat the game training for 5 hours and get to the boss and kill him with your farts but in this game is not an option and that just plain sucks.
Another thing i disliked is that u have to enter a battle stage with every monster, i thought they had left that behind with FFXII.
Okay here comes a part i really hate, MONEY what happened with monsters carrying gil, i mean they kill people they eat them and with them their purses/wallets, so when u kill them u take the money from their belly, here like in FFXII thats not the case, oh no we have to grind (in the bad way) to get items to sell and that is if we are of a good mood cuz also throught the first disc and half of the second u will get shit from youre enemies the only alternative is to try to sell the few items u have but u need them to improve your weapons.
also im pissed about the ATB bar it doesnt charges fast enough i want some speed on my fighters.
one thing i found funny was that when u use the libra technique or w/e is spelled u get only the info of the enemy but u still have to use it again because u dont get to see waht it drops for loot.
Some character combinations are great but some you just wish u could skip them for example the vanille sazh combo its a pain to fill the stagger bar, u have to set them both as ravagers and then try to time your attacks so ur bar doesnt resets, fighting the armored lizards is a challenge but of patience i actually skipped those cause every fight with em is about 5 mins long at least using those guys.
Also i dont really notice how the technique bar is charged i mean i always try to see how it fills but i never notice until its full again.
Summons dont do shit i prefer using the normal characters i just used them when i was messing around with them they are cool to watch but the dont do much dmg.
Love the story so far, it just gets better and better.
One thing that still bothers me is that snow looks so old and serah looks like a teenager i mean WTF he's like a pedophile, no wonder lighting doesnt like him, freak!
TRANSFORMER, MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE!
