XBox 360 launch price: $399
Annual Live subscription: $50 (Max, less online)
Life of console: ~5 years (average)

Total investment: $649/60=$10.82 per month

Hardware under warranty, connects to either your existing television or your existing PC or Mac display (unless you have a fully integrated system or laptop). Hardware could potentially last for an indefinite period of time (some would say less than 5 years, but I'm feeling charitable here).

I was under the impression, wrongly it seems, that a user would pay a subscription fee and nothing else. Similar to cable. Buying games on top of this would be a dealbreaker for me.

$14.95/month + cost of the games?

To play a AAA title for 6 months, I’m going to pay $60 for the game and $14.95/month for 6 months, for grand total of $150. Are they crazy? What if I cancel my subscription? Do they send me a physical copy of the game?

They need to negotiate a fixed cost per month model with the publishers, that gives us access to the entire library. People who are already buying these games have rigs (or are willing to update them) to play them. They are going after the market for people who can’t afford to update their PCs. I don’t see how this model is going to work. It’s way too expensive.

While I don't completely agree with the pricing points they are making...I believe in the tech and what it can offer. All in all, the pricing point for games can not be at the same price of a retail unit. It's a big reason why steam is kinda ripping people off. The distribution method is awesome but agian the price point is just a joke on the consumer. End of the day publishers walk away with 14- 20 dollars a disk for a 60 dollar game. There are manufacturing cost and rights to use certain types of disks that go into acount for the 60 dollars people pay. So why a digital distribution of a game cost the same as a hard copy is just the equivilant of theft in my book :) Hearing the Onlive guy talk in several vids he is well aware of this and talks about it...so I very much hope games will be at around 15 -20 dollars with this service or there is very little chance for success.

if they'll let me sign up for a single month, i'll at least try it to see how it works, $15 isn't much of a risk if there's a chance that it'll blow me away.
