Sony Exec *mid conference*:

"Hey! Listen up! We're changing the name to Playstation Arc. Yeah, thats right, ARC. Commenter "The Burning Sensation" on Joystiq believes it's way more epic... what?... don't... don't give me that look."

You think the name is bad? it looks like it will cost $40-$60 for each controller. half the games they showed required you to have 2 of them. so if you want to play 2 players your looking at 4 of these controllers, lets say they charge on the low end. Thats still $200 with the Playstation Eye which is required (obviously). and with that $200 you dont even have a game. (they do have bundles that include a game, but it costs more and you more than likely dont get to pick the game.

Thats a lot of money, it better be REALLY good.

@ SmilinGoat,

That's not really surprising. Isn't it about $60 to pick up a Wii remote and nunchuck as well?

sounds better than arc or move to me

@ Jimbo

yes, the wii controllers are expensive too. but they also dont require you to buy an input device or 2 of them to buy a single player game.

to buy everything for the Wii to play 2 players (plus a game) costs about the same as the PSmove stuff (on the cheap estimates), which does not come with a system to actually play the games with.

thats pretty stiff pricing. Dont get me wrong, im impressed with the PSmove, from the video it looks really accurate, thats just the price of an entire new system.

What's actually going to happen is that devs are going to be forced to make games based on only one controller. The world of two motion sensing controllers is going to be a pipe dream. Only if (and it won't) the basic pack includes two controllers will it be expected that people own two.

Developers have to make games accessible to the largest number of buyers. If you're not certain that 95% of the userbase already has the technology, then you don't make a game which requires it. Will there be "modes" for it? Yes. Hopefully these become the good versions, rather than a half-hearted crippled addition.

Sony can't use the name 'Arc' because it's already trademarked by Microsoft. See Microsoft Arc mouse, Microsoft Arc keyboard.

"Arc" is the stupidest name for this thing, I'm so glad they didn't name it the Arc. Soooo stupid. PS Move is kinda dumb too, but not as dumb as Arc. Arc doesn't even make sense in the context.

I also hate it when people call storylines "story arcs." Perhaps that's why. I hate "story arc." Storylines don't have to arc. They can be lines too, goddammit.

I can't say I'm that excited tbh. It's not proper motion sensing. After how crappy motion sensing was on Eyepet I'm avoiding this at all costs...

Also, $100? Eyepet+PSeye retails for like $37 USD equivalent here... you're paying $64 for a glowing stick now? Sorry if I missed something.

We don't know it's 99.99. And if that kit comes with a Move plus Subcontroller...

@ Blight - Eyepet has been out for almost six months in the UK, and the motion tracking is awful. Granted, it was only missing the Move tech to make it truly work, so I don't think pre-Move Eyepet should be a standard.

1 Controller 1 Camera and a HD Wii Sports like game = 99.99

Now here are my questions:

Sub Controller 29.99-39.99?

Second Motion Controller (Some games need 2) 59.99 69.99?

It get's pricey but I expected the sub controller to be part of the main package. Still pricing is about what I expected.

@Blight

When a company says Under $100 its pretty safe to assume that means $99, and even not, its obvious that they are going to charging about $40 per controller, requiring 2 of them for many of the games they showed. the price is adding up really quick when you start to look at it. like $200+ for the setup for 2 people to be able to play.

also he mentioned that the sub-controller is not included. so that will cost even more (also does not seem to be required for anything, as you can use the DS3 for games like SOCOM)

im really not liking the looks of the price. thats a pretty big gamble, and its a valid concern.

These are Canadian prices, so bare with me.

Wiimote: $45
Nunchuck: $25
Wii Motion Plus: $25
Total: $95 + tax.

I highly doubt it would cost significantly more than a single (fully-capable) Wii controller. So pricing seems fine. (Compared to competition anyway. I still say both packages are overpriced.)

Anyway; for everyone that was looking forward to Wii HD; It's here: Holiday 2010.

Now, how about a Move+Game bundle for those of us that have Eyes?

I hope the price difference between the bundles with and without the PSEye isn't too significant... but such is the sacrifice of being an early adopter of a nigh-unused technology.

I am not interested.. bottomline.. I like using a dual shock controller.. I actually originally thought I would love the motion control with a Wii.. I hated it.. so I am not interested in more motion based controllers.. I get downvoted for simply stating that I was not interested? not surprising.. the fan boys do that on all websites..I will continue to play my PS3 games with a normal controller thank you very much.

I doubt that's what they mean, I sure they just haven't quite nailed down the costs and what they want to bundle. If its for about 70 bucks, then count me in! I think that was their intention from the beginning. Introducing motion controling with a low entry price point. Natal will be a harder sell because of its costs (IMO).

Under $100 could mean a lot of things. The difference between $90 and even $70 could spell a difference between life and death for this thing (though not necessarily, given that Guitar Hero/Rock Band/Wii Fit are insanely successful)

It still all comes down to software, i guess. They'll need the killer app either way.

two of those are games that are already out and i don't think are worth $70-100 just to play them again with motion control. the other two are more niche titles that might be held back depending on how precise the technology is.

don't get me wrong, it's a better line-up than MS has announced so far for natal (which i'm also nterested in, but they're going to need to do much better than block breaker), but it's still not enough to make me get it. for me, a good line-up of launch games is NEW, AAA titles that will actually interest me as a person who spends several hours a day playing video games.
