More PR BS from Reggie. He isn't part of the higher ups in NoJ, he doesn't know anything past what they've told him.

As for those confused with the HD speak lately. They mean that they couldn't just put HD capability into the system and expect to get gangbusters out of it. They need more. Iwata has already stated in the past that the next Nintendo console would be HD capable. So yes, the Wii 2 will be an HD system. There will be no Wii HD though.

lies. every company begins work on the next console no matter how long the current cycle lasts. I mean its at least in the conceptual stage.

heres where i see the problem. The wii set itself apart from xbox and ps3 this gen...but they need to make up seriously lost ground once they produce their next console. because xbox and ps3 are both following suit with motion detection and catering to casual as well, Nintendo doesnt have those edges anymore. the next wii will obviosuly have HD capabilities. but thats nothing special anymore... Nintendo really has to have another innovation as big as motion control and something as catchy as "the casual experience" do be close to competitive.

This random stranger here predicts : wii 2 goes the way of the gamecube and comes out in 3rd place.

I'm not frustrated by Reggie's answer than Forbes for asking that question in the first place. Granted, Forbes doesn't cover gaming as much, so they could be forgiven for asking a question that anyone here would know Nintendo wouldn't give a straight answer to

It's a waste of everyone's time to ask the big 3 about future console plans, when they could be asking important stuff like when they're going to get these hardware shortages cleared up...

No real news here. Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to Nintendo's next. They do there own thing and as far as Wii goes, it works for me. I want more than HD Mario and I'm glad Nintendo does too.

I think that the WII would fit nicely with the new 3D craze; I bet they are at least looking in to it. If the 3D craze gains steam it will come from gaming or porn.

If Nintendo was developing a new console, Reggie wouldn't know about it.

Or if he DID know about it, he would deny it, act like it doesn't exist, and pretend to be surprised when Nintendo of Japan announces the product just days after a public denial.

Also, "when the software developer comes forward with an idea that can't be executed on the current platform," The developer just takes their game to the 360/ps3 instead.

I just don't like current attitude of "We can't update our hardware until we find a new gimmick!"
Personally, I think HD graphics, functional/low-lag online, (relatively)large amounts of storage space, and multimedia playback would be a great list of 'gimmicks' that their current console doesn't offer.

I think this is all spin. A unified marketing front to show "100% wii support" as opposed to fracturing their sales by stating that they've been working on a new console at which point the public *might* be willing to pass on the wii for the next big (hopefully HD) thing.

That said.. they *really* should be thinking HD. The wii certainly took the world by storm with it's innovative controls but people are craving more. The PS3 and X360 are really hitting their technical stride now with titles like Heavy Rain, Left4Dead, FF13, and the soon to be released God of War III, all of which would make a wii cough up a lung. Once Sony and MS release their "me too" motion control systems coupled with 3d presentation things will really get interesting.

Oh man, I cannot WAIT for a new Nintendo system! Think of all of those great games: Ninjabreadman 2 and every other piece of crap Nintendo third party licenses shit out.

I have a new theory and it makes sense if you think about it. Most of the third party games you see in the bargain bins at various stores like Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Zellers etc are created NOT to recoup losses for development time and quality control, of which these elements are non-existent. The way these third party companies make money, is they have a hidden corporation that makes Bargain Bins and sells them at great profit to said retail outlets to hold their crappy games.

Not so stupid, am I?

I can't stand the "completely new experience" line, as if that's the only justification for incorporating a technical improvement.

According to Reggie's (and thereby Nintendo's) "logic", we shouldn't have Blu-Ray - or even DVD - at home, because neither is a "completely new experience" - VHS had it covered.

I guess games looking and sounding better just isn't a worthwhile upgrade.

So why all the DS revisions?

Its funny that HD graphics is not enough to launch a new console for Wii but having a larger screen is enough reason for the DS.

people people people!!! There IS NO WII 2 OR WII HD. face it. Nintendo is calling it something different, and we all know it. now stop calling it the Wii 2 or Wii HD. Nintendo is just continuing to state that those system's don't exist. Well they are probably right, even if they are making a new system as we speak. just think about it...... they are playing the name game with us and it's soooo obvious to me!

"....that that by itself will not create a brand new experience. Therefore, we're not interested."

Guess that wasn't their line of thinking every two years when they re-release the damn Nintendo DS...

I wonder how many iterations of Nintendo consoles we will have to go through to get to the visual fidelity of the PS3 and 360?

That's a question like; how many licks does it take to reach the center of a tootsie roll pop?

The world may never know.

And just like the tootsie-roll, some guy in Wisconsin or something will dedicate a ridiculous amount of time towards figuring out the answer as exactly as possible, and the question will become moot.

It's like we're predicting the future here.

"because we have hardware developers working side by side with software developers, is that when the software developer comes forward with an idea that can't be executed on the current platform, that's when we start thinking seriously about the next system. We're not there yet, from a Wii perspective."

DAMN YOU MEGAMAN 10!!!!

Also, what he really should just say is "In case you didn't notice, those choices do not come about in the North American branch of Nintendo"

If you can't get a HD Wii, just buy a 360 or ps3, which is HD + whole other library, its actually better than buying Wii 2.

Guys did you ever think that Nintendo really doesn't know what they are doing? Obviously Nintendo with the Wii put in too much time with the motion controller, didn't bother to look at what the competition has on the market (large storage space/Xbox Live quality online gaming), slapped it together quickly and decided that they will just make it up the rest as they go. If they don't get with it and quit this the "Almighty Iwata and Miyamoto knows better than everyone else about innovation and you don't tell us about future technology" then we really won't get to see what the next gen system Nintendo system could be truly capable of. Look at the Wii now, it's like we have a PS2 with a motion controller.

Translation (from Reggienese to English):
HEY GUYS, WE'RE TOTALLY WORKING ON OUR NEW CONSOLE, BUT WE'RE NOT GOING TO SAY A THING ABOUT IT SO WE CAN KEEP IT SECRET LONG ENOUGH TO DEVELOP IT, AND LET CLOSE THIRD-PARTIES NOW, SO WE'LL BE READY TO PUBLICALLY ANNOUNCE IT WHEN THE Wii HAS STOPPED SELLING SO WELL.
