Speaking to The Rumble Pack, Runic Games CEO Max Schaefer declared that his company is actively pursuing a console port of its PC action RPG, Torchlight. "We're going to put some serious effort into it -- pretty quick -- getting Torchlight onto consoles," said Schaefer. "There's a lot of really cool things about the console world, too, that would work well with our game," he added, "So, we are definitely going to be going in that direction." He offered no specifics on the project, saying only that the company is "talking to a million people" and that it's "something we definitely want to do.
We were quite taken with Torchlight when it released on PC last year -- the game landed more than a few of our staff's best of 2009 lists -- so here's hoping we'll get some more details soon.

how about the mmo you bragged about first? We haven't seen ANYTHING on that.

That's slated for 2011. The single player game was planned to be released first anyway.

A Mac port will be released this year. Probably along with the console ports.

Wow, someone sure is defensive. Why would they say they were 'interested in the idea' if they're already doing it? I didn't say a release date, I said they haven't mentioned anything at all about it, no concept art, no screens, no plans, then they announce something completely new?

Torchlight single player was announced before the MMO.

the console port was announced before the mmo? No one gave them the time of the day before Torchlight came out for pcdl, so I can't imagine them having announced a console port then, not stating that you're implying that, but yeah.. I'm sure the console port came along after they did so well in sales, a
During that time, they had tons of interviews, because people dug Torchlight, especially it's available modding,(wonder how well that will translate to consoles) so they were using that time to say hey we built this single player game that we're using to get you familiar with this mmo we're building.
Then they announce this project of porting it over, which is fine, but they've shown nothing of the mmo. Not even one concept art, or an idea of the new classes, nothing. Runic Games isn't some huge company, so forgive me if I'm a little skeptical of their manpower.

If we're talking console ports, then no that wasn't announced before the MMO. But a game slated for 2011 still has too much time to gain grounds for concept art and such. Patience is a virtue. Many of us are in the same boat you are. We'd love to see more on a Torchlight MMO but until we do, all we can do is wait.

So let's let them ride the gravy-train of Torchlight so they can beef up, then make your MMO and other great games which are sure to follow.

First of all, Runic has proved that they are a great team with incredible efficiency twice already. The Mythos beta (Mythos team is pretty much Runic) and Torchlight (which they made in under a year). So I would not go around trying to tell people that Runic is incompetent and unable. I would trust them to make a game on time than pretty much any other company out there right now. On another note, for the most part, ports are created by other developers. I highly doubt they would move their resources to make a console port.

awesome! i've had my eye on this for a while. hopefully 360 is among the consoles it's being ported to.
if they successfully implement a solid control scheme, maybe blizzard can have some ideas to work off for a possible port of diablo 3.

Hopefully Microsoft has a change of heart with their achievement system, Torchlight would deserve the full treatment. I know PSN allows full downloadable games (Trine for example) the platinum treatment, would be nice if XBLA did as well.
Best news ever though. I've sunk so much time into the PC version, probably getting the Mac version this year already, and if it makes its way to consoles I'll buy them as well. Can't stop playing the game!
Take a hint Blizzard. Being as addicting as they are, people will buy every version imaginable of a dungeon crawling RPG. Diablo III on computers and consoles, with cross platform play, would be wicked.

Do it. Everyone deserves to play this gem. And seeing how the genre is seriously lacking on consoles, it'd be a great success. Hopefully they can get co-op in there. That'd really push it in the right direction.

The only clique here is the people who pretend to be other people. Not apart of it, so yeah you will be beaten with lead pipes every time you post.
Actually i imagine you'll only be whited out just these few times. I get the downvotes of death and I just still keep going, if I believe it.

My addiction to achievements allows me to only play games on the 360 lately. I really wanted to try this out.

It's not so much a clique as the way you phrased your statements. Take a more constructive approach and people will respect what you have to say. I mean this honestly and not to insult you.

If they ripped anything else out of Diablo, it would be Diablo. I wasn't a big Diablo fan, so I was inclined to avoid this game. I recognized it as a quality effort, but probably not one along my line of interests. However, several people cajoled me into buying it when they had a sale on Steam, and so I bought it. And yeah, all my concerns were pretty accurate: if you don't dig Diablo, you won't dig this.

Now that I can play this with a game pad I'm in, before I'd maybe download it via U Torrent play once or twice and forget it.

love this game. i don't see it working on consoles like 360 & ps3 but that doesn't mean im not excited they're trying.
and if they do succeed, it might (heaven forbid) inspire other companies -- like Blizzard -- to follow suit. hell, maybe even convince them to consider porting some of their previous titles.
good luck, Runic.

This game sounds fantastic. I was sad to initially hear that it was PC only, but this looks promising now.
