Can you not use the ↘↘ {punch} shortcut that the arcade and console versions of street fighter 4 implement?

No you can't but there's something similar. It's an easy button config mode which essentially does all the special moves with one button press. And the ultra moves are assigned to a different button.

They really simplified it for iPhone cause the touch controls are so shoddy.

So...verdicts on this game? The 5 star rating on iTunes is comforting, but anyone played it here?

I did a 4 star review on iTunes because of the slowdowns, and the animations could use a few more frames. But other than that, it's great. I've had no hitches with actually playing the game yet. BUY IT.

Spectacular job, Capcom.

I have no doubt it will have huge sales though.

This game is awesome! It's a prefect representation of what it's like to play Street Fighter IV while drunk.

That's what they were going for right? If so GotY, if not...sweet Xenu what were they thinking?!

I think that's what they were going for... they figured everyone wants a drunk dial/text preventative measure so they're capitalizing on it!

Silly question...

Why can't this be done on the PSP where controls would actually work?

Even at 10 dollars Capcom will probably make more on the App store than on the PSP believe it or not. We live in an age where 99 cent games are pulling in millions of dollars for developers. I mean look at this:

http://techcrunch.com/2010/03/08/never-ending-goldrush-doodle-jump-for-iphone-smashes-through-3-million-sales/

Has Capcom put out anything on the PSP that has surpassed 3 million in sales? It's a terrible state of affairs to be sure. I, for one, would much prefer to play SFIV on an actual controller.

How about 4.4 million copies of monster Hunter Freedom Unite on the PSP? Capcom made a few pennies there at a premium sale price!!

Lets say Monster hunters average price was a shitty $20 (it sold at a much higher price than this initially and still does in many countries!), multiply that by 4.4million you get 88million dollars, lets say its a massive 20 million dollars to develop and sony takes a roughly a third of the sales (so take off roughly 50 million dollars) that leaves 38 million dollars in Capcoms pocket!

Doodle Jump cost $1.......thats 3 million dollars in sales, yer the development costs were nothing in comparison to big games on the psp/laptops etc and i cant see street fighter 4 selling as well as doodle jump with a $9 price difference and shite controls.

but for examples sake lets say street fighter 4 for iphone takes 1million to develop, and sells 1 million copies at $10 each, thats 10 million dollars in sales, you do the math, capcom can make bigger monies elsewhere.

Few Iphone developers gain massive rewards. Its good for the smaller companies but not as good for the bigger companies like capcom.

While I'm sure the controls on this thing suck, how stupid does this guy have to be to not realize that he's never hitting down?

F, DF, F is not a dragon punch, FYI.

Getting it to recognize that you *did* press down is harder than you'd think. You could probably get used to it eventually but, as you can see, I had trouble pulling it off on the first try.

And thanks for the Street Fighter history lesson, as though I haven't been playing the series for the last twenty years.

"Should you make the $10 investment for SFIV, on your phone, you'll probably want to spend some time in the game's expansive "Dojo" training mode before hitting the world circuit."

You'll also probably want to spend some time considering the poor choices you've made in your life. Choices such as spending $10 on SFIV for your frigging iPhone.

Honestly, I haven't found the moves that hard to pull off. I've definitely had issues pulling off super combos, but hadoken's and shoryuken's haven't been too hard. I think I have had to exaggerate the hadoken motion just a bit- but I think I do that with the regular controller, too. It's an incredible port, though.

I bought it this morning and I think it's great. Obviously it won't pleasure everyone, it does use an on-screen joystick and buttons, but I think people are missing the point: it's Street Fighter IV on a FREAKING PHONE!

mmm... i think hands down physical buttons win if the touch screen tries to emulate buttons. but when you make a general statement that physical buttons beat out touch screens ANY TIME for games, then i think its just wrong.

Actually, I was pulling off a dragon punch, fireball and a hurricane kick on the 2nd or third attempt. Heck, I was able to consistently throw them down pretty easily.
It's admittedly a bit strange and uncomfortable to play on a touch screen, but considering everything, I'm quite happy with the results.
