Has anyone read any news about devices existing that don't require cell phone plans? I'm going to be mad-po'ed if this is exclusive to only "phones" with contracts.

I'm fine paying 2-300$ for a device but I will never leave the iPhone platform for anything.

Please Microsoft... give us a stand-alone wifi device that does all this, minus the phone!!!

i never understood how a ds can have a 12-hour playtime battery life,l but as soon as i play a game on my phone (or do anything besides use it as a phone), the battery dies in an hour.

Lol, not without Microtransactions they won't. That's how Zynga can make money.

Microsoft may have a homerun on their hands. I'm highly impressed by this.

Is it just me or that achievement up there looks like a trophy? Huh...

Nevertheless, I'm really excited about this!

How will the approval process be? Isn't that the biggest kudos developers gave to iphone? Sony's mini's program is going too hot, but then again, there is a lot of indie games on XBL.

I know this is partially the "apple" effect but I was hoping that since wp7 devices seem to be more about the media and gaming aspects we would see true 16x9 resolutions and screens to standardize around.

Pretty sure Windows Phone 7 requires WVGA support from the hardware. So it should have a 16:9 ratio :)

I think this is great for indie game developers and I hope that Microsoft will import all of the indie XBL games to their mobile app service. :)

It's not a matter of MS porting anything, it falls to the developer.

Having worked with XNA myself, I can tell you they did a great job at making it really easy to port a game between PC and Xbox. Essentially adding a few "IF xbox, THEN this-ain't-no-stinkin-keyboard" lines in.

If they can make the code that simple to move over to the phone, then I think they've hit a homerun for indy devs.

In my opinion, real-time multiplayer gaming is a must. I hate to say this, but the iPhone and iPod touch can do it, so Microsoft really needs to get this feature in WP7.

I completely agree! This is a must-have feature and I fell that Xbox Live is gimped without it.

I also think it needs to support in-app micro-transactions!

Agreed. Maybe XNA 4.1. :(

How do you take the most social experience in gaming and remove all the social aspects? Sounds like a rush job to me. Another half hearted endeavor by MS. sigh

If the "achievement unlocked" sound isn't ported exactly, this will be fail.

There is little better than hearing/seeing that sound pop up.

I'm a little sad that it's not wrapped up in the "bubble" presentation like on the 360.

As for battery life versus ANY other handheld system... well, guess what - it's a PHONE.

It handles your internet, your cell phone communication, it's always on, doing something in the background with a much higher resolution and with a lot more going on.

The DS just does DS and MAYBE WiFi.

No real time multiplayer.... that is too bad. I am also glad that I didn't get a zune HD when I was thinking on upgrading music player.
