I don't know- looks like it could also represent a pulse from an EKG. That'd work with "Move". I bet they keep it.

An EKG? Hmm...if only there was a way for it to sense vitality...

Nah, who would be crazy enough to do that?

Not surprising. It's a shame really that Microsoft had the trademark on "Arc". I think "move" just sounds bad and has the potential to cause confusion.

Personally, I hope for really good fitness software for the PS3. I use Yourself Fitness (with my PS2 compatible PS3) and would love to move on to something newer.

This name is a marketing dream if you're targeting those folks who bought Wiis because they think video games are too physically static. A lot of people do not use their PS3s to game but would use them to fashionably exercise.

Maybe it's just me, but when I see the current logo, it reminds me of Mario games for some reason. Maybe I'm just thinking of the little scribble in the Super Mario Sunshine logo.

Also, if they turn it into an M, wouldn't it look really similar to this?

Arc is the only name thrown around that I liked. But having said that, I thought Wii was a horrible name at one point and have since accepted it

Ha, it's almost a shame that we'll never get to see how Sony would try and seriously advertise a peripheral named "Playstation Boogie."

I was looking around for opinions online and I was expecting people to say that it was a ripoff of the Wii, but I wasn't expecting people to compare the logo to an alleged working logo for the Wii back when it was called the Revolution.

Has anyone actually made that comparison?

Yes, the letter A looks a lot like the letter R. Especially when written whimsically. IT also looks like an M when you add another hump, etc etc. Letter based logos look a lot alike because they are a lot alike.

Yes, people have made that comparison. I was hesitant to name my source at first, but it's 4chan's /v/ board. Many people were mentioning it. I had to get out of there after a while. There's only so much of that place you can take for a given time, especially after a night like this.

LOL. Well, there's always someone complaining about something. This is a lot like the wiimote in ways that don't really require "letters look similar!" complaints, though. I guess I should be glad that's all 4chan is up to. Given that this device is phallic, I'm sure they will come up with something more creative soon.

I keep looking at the official playstation blog and marveling at how the comments are 99% complaints. As soon as the de jour issue is resolved, no one says thanks and they move on to some additional crisis.

I don't really care that Sony is following Nintendo. They should... Nintendo had a good idea.

Oh, don't worry, one of the first threads started featured an image of a couple ladies holding them like a bow and arrow, along with the text, "It looks like a vibrator." I mean, I guess you can't expect much from that place.

It's still there. It's just usually grey (unlike the colorful PS1 logo) so it's not as noticable.

It's amazing to me that most of the time a company runs into a patent troll or a trademark problem, MS is somehow involved. But I think they have a valid trademark for their mouse. And as much as I think MS has behaved poorly (much worse than Sony or Nintendo in the console wars), their Arc line of mice is excellent and is a better fit for the name than Sony's new control.

Sony dropped the ball on this name (not a big deal), not MS. I'm more concerned with the "gimp the PS3 version of the game" like Capcom noted and normal observation verified. IF you want to bash MS, just look up SCO. Or Immersion. This isn't the best issue to worry about.

Also, I think Sony being a little more obvious is a great move. These "It only does everything" commercials beat the hell out of the Lynch ones, and letting prospective wii gamers with a need for a blu-ray player know about this functionality requires minimal interpretation. Keep it simple. Include a bunch of minigames which imply atheticism and exercise like Nintendo did.

MS employs more people for filing banal and silly patents than Sony employs for their entire Playstation operation. You'll never beat them on this battlefield.

What, were the graphic designers lazy? One more line on the right and that logo can easily be turned into an 'M'

I take it that they had trouble getting the name Arc for their controller since Microsoft has a mouse called Arc?

I like that symbol. It's simple and clean *groan*, and struck me as sort of a light-trail, like someone moved/swished the illuminated end of the 'wand'. Also, that EKG thing mentioned up top.

Mandatory concave trigger! This is a good step towards recovery, Sony. :P

Randy, does the sub-controller have a similar concave trigger design as well?

I like how simple the logo is, but I don't think it's nearly as good as the Playstation or Xbox 360 logos.

The logo reminds me of the sony walkman logo is the first thing that came to my head and right on from that I liked it. If it reminds you of an A or if you add a little scribble at the end of the logo it will probably look like a stylized M and will look similar to other M's that are drawn in similar fashion. common sense prevails!!!!

Secondly im glad the Arc name is gone. has no one ever heard the slang. ARC IT UP! he's about to arc up. bascially its not the friendliest nor meant to be offensive but it certainly has connotation of anger to me.

Move is much better and even thought its not fancy like ARC or an odd name like The Seybold. At least it means something and be used quite well in a marketing campaign easily.

Did Arc ever make sense?

I think Move is a better name. It captures what the device is supposed to be about better.

If they add a little blue ink to the logo to make it look like an M... won't it look a bit too much like the Mates logo?

Update: The logo is not suppose to represent any letter, its suppose to "represent the swipe of the controller"
