That's right, folks -- Harmonix has just revealed that Green Day: Rock Band will be available for all come June 8 on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. Up to 6 players (3 mics; 3 instruments) will progress through the career of the trio, unlocking collectible images (more than 100, apparently) and some 40 minutes of "rare and unreleased" footage from interviews, outtakes and performances along the way.
As alluded to above, GD:RB will also sport the same vocal harmonizing feature that made The Beatles: Rock Band such a delight for mic hogs and comes loaded with 47 Green Day tracks, including "Brain Stew," "Jaded," "Hitchin' a Ride," "American Idiot," "Wake Me Up When September Ends" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams."
Oh, and if you're looking to export these tunes, worry not: all 47 tracks are fully exportable to a console hard drive and playable in Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and the recently announced Rock Band 3. The export fee is $9.99 via Xbox Live or PSN. The export features is not available for the Wii system. Additionally, if you've picked up the six Green Day tunes already available as DLC, you can play them in the new game with added harmonies, "unique" visuals and more "exclusive archival material."
Green Day: Rock Band will be available as a standalone game for Xbox 360 and PS3 for $59.99, while Wii owners will get a bit of a price break at $49.99. A special edition Green Day: Rock Band Plus will also come to Xbox 360 and PS3 for $69.99 and includes fancy packaging, an "export" feature (we assume, a voucher to export the disc tracks to the hard drive) and the six previously released Green Day DLC tracks.
Update: The GameStop pre-order bonus for the standalone game is an export voucher (for Xbox 360 or PS3). Essentially, pre-order GD:RB from GameStop, and you can export all 47 tracks to your console hard drive for free.

Cool, you mean the performance where the bass player got his teeth knocked out by security guards? Yeah I'm sure he loved that one.

I still don't get why Green Day deserves its own Rock Band game. I mean no disrespect, but when they released The Beatles Rock Band I thought they'd surely follow it up with a band that comes just a bit closer to legendary status.

It's a game, not an award. They've only chosen bands that are clearly popular and have a large enough back catalog that they can also keep releasing DLC as well as having a respectable amount of songs already on the disc. There's no 'legendary' precursor to it.

Well of course, that much is obvious. I know I'm dreaming when I say I'd rather see a Zeppelin or Floyd Rock Band, but it'd still be a more impressive way to follow up The Beatles. I didn't say that this was an award - it's more likely a huge risk for both the Rock Band franchise and Green Day. It could also pay off, but I know I'm not buying it.

While I do not agree with Shattered Mind, I think Harmonix saw an opportunity to make a killing with this game. Green Day has quite a few (I never knew this before) fans out there eager to pick this up.
And not only that but one of their songs is being adapted in to a Broadway play. I mean, that's count for something in terms of how many people are interested in this band.

A Rockband Mozart would be awesome, although the 22 piece plastic orchestra would be costly, and the clicking would be immense.

Granted, The Beatles were certainly a great band, but a lot of their original fans were older by the time video games started to be mainstream. Green Day started when games were getting huge, and the generation that grew up with them is more likely to be into a game like this than die-hard Beatles fans.
Of course, there are always newer fans of The Beatles(like my girlfriend) who thoroughly enjoyed Beatles Rock Band but as far as I've experienced, I know more people that would enjoy this more than Beatles Rock Band. Green Day may not necessarily be groundbreaking, but they are certainly a big band that has been around for around twenty years now and they have a very large following. To me, Green Day is more interesting than The Beatles simply because I'm not a huge fan of them. I'm not saying they are any better or anything, but I'm probably going to buy this instead of The Beatles Rock Band. Just my perspective on the matter, at least.
and @ EvinTheSwift,
Actually it's the entire American Idiot CD with some other songs, and it's already a musical. They're working on a movie now.

Wait, so only the special edition gets export? This doesn't bode well for future titles.

Since the Gamestop pre-order bonus is an export voucher, set the game up in your gamefly queue, don't open your copy, and then use the code with the gamefly disk and return your retail copy. There, you've got all the songs for free.
Not that I want Harmonix to lose money on this game, I just can't stand Green Day or GameStop.

Special edition? what if you already purchased the 6 DLC songs?

It's $10 more for the Special Edition. Which includes:
- Free Export ($10 value)
- 6 free DLC songs ($12 value)
So by spending $10 you're getting $22 worth of stuff.
But if you already have the DLC, then just buy the standard edition at GameStop and get the free export. It's the exact same thing.

It is definitely not $22 worth of stuff. The export feature should be included in the regular price. Hopefully, no one will buy this. Isn't Rock Band slowing fading out anyways? Or am I the only one that got tired of this last year?

Unless you already bought the DLC and preorder from GS, it is in fact $22 worth for $10 more on that special edition. If I decide to buy this it will be that special edition. But this makes me wonder why the Beatles didn't have the export. Maybe they will add it since I would prefer carrying those songs over into RB3.

The Beatles doesn't have an export because they are protective of their music. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

@DCBlack:
The 6 songs is great, but that essentially comes out to $12. I understand the protection that goes along with the export feature, but I don't understand why I was able to export (for free) my songs from the AC/DC pack, and not with Green Day. And correct me if I'm wrong, but that pack only cost me $30, which is well under half of the $70 Green Day special edition.

@Taylor The Beatles aren't even on iTunes!
@Taylor's Second Post. When originally launched the AC/DC pack was 39.99 with 27 LIVE tracks. Did not feature any AC/DC members, photos, documentry, dreamscapes, or Walrus's. It was not a true stand alone product. Like the Metal Pack or Country pack, it was a collection of 27 songs packaged together with the ability to export them to your HD.
However I don't think I need to list out all the features and art that will be added to GD:RB to explain why it's a full game. Which is why it follows the 59.99 new with 9.99 export rule "similar" to Lego:RB

I like Green Day. I love Rock Band. But there's just no way in hell I'm buying this. I'll rent it once and have some friends over, but with Rock Band 3 on the horizon this just seems like a waste of sixty bucks.
I wish Harmonix all the success in the world, they definitely deserve it. But I hope this sells like crap so they learn how to better focus their talents in the future.

wow, lots of Green Day hate, I'll probably pick this up, we have a weekly rock band night and a bunch of us are green day fans, I prefer the earlier albums but there's listenable stuff across the board.
I used to think that harmonix should "focus more" on the core of the franchise, but clearly they're doing that to a reasonable extent, there's been a major release annually, Lego Rock band gave a breather between 2 and 3, but that's fine, it was fun as hell. As long as the tracks are exportable I'm all for band specific games. I think I'd maybe prefer stuff more along the lines of the ACDC pack but I understand the desire to do full price titles.

I'm not sure it's hate for Green Day the band as it is an entire game devoted to their relatively brief career. Anyone who has posted on Joytiq articles related to Beatles knows my distaste for them, but I am aware of their "legendary" status, and as such, a follow up game should have been based around a group with a comparable reputation. There are far too many bands that are far more deserving of their own game before Green Day. I happen to like Green Day and appreciate their contributions to music, but give me The Stones, The Who, Floyd, or Zeppelin before we get and entire game of Green Day.

That's why I said "relative." When compared to the other bands that I mentioned, who still perform to some capacity, Green Day's career is brief.

Why is everyone getting hung up on the brevity thing. "Relatively brief" was just a modifier to their "career" as a whole. The meat and potatoes of my arguement occurs after that. "Legendary" encompasses more than just longevity. If you folks think that Green Day is as legendary as Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, then it has become painfully aware to me that I cannot discuss music with any of you.

Green Day has been around as long as Zepplin and the Beatles...combined. The Who have been around longer, when you consider all their reunions, but have released only one album since 1982. Pink Floyd was around longer, certainly, but not THAT much longer. Regardless, Green Day has only been around "briefly" in comparison to the Stones, but who hasn't?

Everyone's already talked about how long Green Day has been around, so I won't say it again.
That said, they are definitely important enough to have their own RB game. The only other 90's band that could even come close to deserving their own game is Nirvana, and that would be a short-ass game, and Courtney Love would probably slither her way into it. Everyone I know that is my age and likes punk rock likes Green Day, or liked them at one point (and now denies it). ALL of my friends know every word to Longview and Welcome to Paradise and Brain Stew. Green Day was the first band to really put punk on mainstream rock radio (besides the Ramones, but that's different). Good Riddance played at everyone's prom.
Hell, my DAD likes Green Day.
It doesn't matter if you like them or not, they've influenced the same number of bands as any other "legendary" act you can think of.
I am buying the hell out of this game.

I was once quick to rush to the defense of Green Day, but that last album was just such rubbish....
What could the venues for this game be? I can think of Gilman Street, and the Woodstock mud brawl, but those were both before the mainstream gave a damn who Green Day was. Are any songs from their first two records even gonna show up on this? Maybe "Welcome To Paradise" but that doesn't really count.

The emo? What are you talking about? The last two albums were 100% arena rock with a mixing of pop/punk and a ballad here and there. If you somehow mean the emo culture took over and influnced their most recent music, well, I just don't see the connection.
Guyliner does not automatically equal emo. The dudes in 300 even had guyliner. Therefore... guyliner = FABULOUS!
