That's right, folks -- Harmonix has just revealed that Green Day: Rock Band will be available for all come June 8 on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. Up to 6 players (3 mics; 3 instruments) will progress through the career of the trio, unlocking collectible images (more than 100, apparently) and some 40 minutes of "rare and unreleased" footage from interviews, outtakes and performances along the way.
As alluded to above, GD:RB will also sport the same vocal harmonizing feature that made The Beatles: Rock Band such a delight for mic hogs and comes loaded with 47 Green Day tracks, including "Brain Stew," "Jaded," "Hitchin' a Ride," "American Idiot," "Wake Me Up When September Ends" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams."
Oh, and if you're looking to export these tunes, worry not: all 47 tracks are fully exportable to a console hard drive and playable in Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and the recently announced Rock Band 3. The export fee is $9.99 via Xbox Live or PSN. The export features is not available for the Wii system. Additionally, if you've picked up the six Green Day tunes already available as DLC, you can play them in the new game with added harmonies, "unique" visuals and more "exclusive archival material."
Green Day: Rock Band will be available as a standalone game for Xbox 360 and PS3 for $59.99, while Wii owners will get a bit of a price break at $49.99. A special edition Green Day: Rock Band Plus will also come to Xbox 360 and PS3 for $69.99 and includes fancy packaging, an "export" feature (we assume, a voucher to export the disc tracks to the hard drive) and the six previously released Green Day DLC tracks.
Update: The GameStop pre-order bonus for the standalone game is an export voucher (for Xbox 360 or PS3). Essentially, pre-order GD:RB from GameStop, and you can export all 47 tracks to your console hard drive for free.

I wasn't calling Greenday emo. I was referring to the emo culture. Their music has geared toward these newer fads. Besides they are fake now. Complete image change. Fake London accenting. In my opinion Greenday sucks now. They aren't the American punk/rock group they use to be.

fake British accent has always been there. I remember reading interviews where he would make fun of himself for it back in the day. No emo though. Emo is now just a generic term people attach to things they don't like.
I read that Sunny Day Real Estate is back and recording a new LP. Be on the lookout for that if you want to know what emo sounds like. At least that's what it was when I was in high school . Then it became that Rivers Coumo / Jimmy Eat World pretty love song ballad thing. Then it became screamy and filled with angst. Then I grew up and stopped caring about what the kids are into etc etc.

All I am saying is Greenday is terrible compared to their past releases. They are also of no Beatles level to get such a release in my opinion. DLC fine, but I can think of at least 20 other bands more deserving of their own RB release.

@Spike Spiegel - They're fake now? Billie Joe has been sporting that fake accent since the late 80's.

They are fake in their image change is all. I know he has sported the accent for ages, which worked better back in the day. Though these are no circumstances to argue opinion anyway. So let us leave it at that my friends.

please listen to their albums before classyfiying them as emo.
sure they wear eyeliner but their music is still as good, if not better.
more ambitious, more braver and the rock anthem feeling is there.
i highly recommend 21st century breakdown and american idiot albums. these 2 albums really spark interest of green day to me, not because of "emo" but the quality of every song in it and how epic they are. the old green day rocks but to be frank, the newer one is better

Using the reasoning of "Millions of fans" and "Sold out concerts" as rational? Then you don't get to complain if they release "Britney Spears: Rock Band", "Spice Girls: Rock Band", "N'Sync: Rock Band", etc. Just because millions of albums were sold and tours sold out does NOT mean they are great or high quality. I like Green Day, too, but I'll wait for this to show up on the Target end cap clearance rack for 75% off.

Do you realize that post was in response to the question: "Does anyone actually like these little piss ants?"
So, yes, that is a very rational response and a factual statement. Tons of albums sold and concerts sold out answers "Yes, millions of people like these little piss ants"... he didn't say one way or the other in that post whether Green Day was "great or high quality".
Sorry to interrupt your rant with facts. Damn reading comprehension!

Sorry for the double post but when people make the argument of sales don't equate quality, for the most part, I disagree (there are eceptions, tie-in products for one).
If something is just crap, so many people wouldn't be buying it (and in Green Day terms, over and over). When it comes to music people forget that an artist is crap because you don't like them not you don't like them because they're crap.
Now I'm not a fan of any of those pop acts you mentioned, I'm not a fan of pop, but back in their day, in the pop world they were the cream of the crop and if you liked pop they'd be up there with the best and so sold million of records because they were making quality pop.
See what I'm getting at?

That's why I said "relative." When compared to the other bands that I mentioned, who still perform to some capacity, Green Day's career is brief.

They've been playing about as long/longer as The Beatles and Zeppelin did on their runs, whereas The Who and The Rolling Stones should have hung it up a long time ago, since they're shells of their former selves.
Not that I like Green Day or think they should have their own Rock Band game, but your logic is a little flawed.

That may be true, but my main point was referring to their reputation as "legendary." Though their longevity may be comparable, I hardly feel as though they are in the same class as the other acts that I mentioned. Let's get some Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees first (Though I'm sure Green Day's induction is forthcoming).

The note highways aren't the least bit different. Call it petty, but the changed HUD was one of the things that justified The Beatles having their own game... something about those light blue fret buttons made it seem like a whole new experience.
Just to clarify, I'm not entirely serious about that last part... 65% at most.

Good point on zep. Should only bands eligible for the rock n roll hall f fame be considered for rock band standalones? I have to assume that harmoniz will produce what they think will sell. I also feel (especially given the enjoyability of some of the creators network songs) that harmonic have a good handle on what songs make a fun game.

In the unlikely event they include the complete Network and Foxboro Hot Tubs albums (with costumes for the Network, dammit) I will purchase this. If it's just "real" Green Day, pass.

Green Day has always carried the burden of being so divisive when it comes to the legions of misinformed trying to cut them down a few pegs. It's a testament to their long-sustained popularity. Who could forget the sellout label assigned to them when they did what any sensible band would have done by signing to a major label all those years ago? Turned out pretty well for them and all of us, eh? Green Day will apparently never get the respect they rightfully deserve after over twenty years of truly incredible music. The band has been so influential to today's music, everyone knows the lyrics. They are masters of their craft as anyone who has seen them in concert will be able to attest to. Hopefully, someday people will get a clue and realize just how much this band has accomplished and how far they have come. In a way, they are like this generation's version of the Ramones, snooty nose-turner-uppers be damned. I don't buy new games anymore since they all drop in price ridiculously fast. But this is a day one purchase for this nimrod.

Ill do the same thing with this as I did with Lego RB and ACDC track pack. Buy the game, export the songs, make most of my money back selling it on Ebay to someone who doesnt care about exporting. Harmonix still got my original money so its not a lost for them since people buy used games all the time.

Attention Harmonix: My first born son is available for trade in exchange for Pink Floyd: Rock Band.

Hmm. Didn't expect to be seeing this at the end of the Spring. That's a bit surprising. It's based on the Beatles engine right? Smart more. Having Van Halen based on the World Tour engine and not the GH5 engine was such a mistake. Almost 50 songs? Not bad for these band specific games, and $10 to import all of the songs is pretty reasonable. Good to see they'll work in RB2 *and* RB1.
I also like the whole "Plus" pack they're doing. An extra $10 and you get a free download code to redeem the songs along with the other 6 songs they've put out as DLC. Having the redeem code as a pre-order bonus is nice too. Those are the type of things I like to see as pre-order bonuses. Added things, not content that's obvious been cut from the the disc or development time to be released on day 1 or shortly after.

Just saying, but as long as the band's songs are catchy I'd probably a game based on any band. (Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys among other random/looked down upon bands (which includes pop).)
Some bands may not be respected for their musical talent (other more so than others), but I'm not going to lie. Some songs are way too catchy to not just sing along with. Everytime I hear Lucky by Britney Spears or Shape of My Heart by Backstreet Boys, I can't help but sing-a-long with all of my heart.
The same can obviously be said of Green Day: Rock Band. Although the price is a bit steep, I can't help but think about all the potential songs on the disc that I'd love just sing my heart out on.

Not to incite a riot against me, but regardless of the "GD sux"... "no they don't" arguements, has anyone wondered about the export feature to RB2 is going to work?
If RB: GD has multi-singe support, does that mean RB2 will get patched? Or will they just dumb down the track to 1 singer in RB2, then R3 will support multi-singer?
Just a thought

So what is Green Day: Rock Band releasing, exactly? "Release" is a transitive verb. It is not a synonym for "debut." It would be correct to say that Green Day: Rock Band is BEING released June 8 worldwide, or that Harmonix will release Green Day: Rock Band June 8 worldwide, or that the game debuts, bows, comes out, hits stores, appears, becomes available, or what have you June 8 worldwide. However, the game isn't releasing anything, including itself, so the game will not "release" worldwide.

I'm the biggest Green Day fan there is, but this is just too expensive. 60 bucks for only 47 songs, plus an extra $10 to export them? I'll wait until the price drops until there is a ton of them sitting on the shelves, just like The Beatles Rock Band did.
Posted: Mar 18th 2010 4:04AM (Unverified) said
I see alot of people complain about that in all the Rock Band games. First off, how is 47 SONGS not enough?! That's ALOT of songs for one game and you're forgetting, for each song they have to do visuals in the game that match the song. That can be a time consuming process for the game studio, and then programming all the instruments for the songs as well. I think that's plenty enough. As for the price, all games are $60.00 bucks these days. Not satisfied with the price? Wait till it's in a bargain bin then because it's not getting any cheaper.

Wow, so much hate for Green Day! Here is my two cents on this topic. For one, Green Day has actually been around longer than the Beatles. The Beatles were around from 1962 to 1969 (earlier years don't really count, that is the year they were considered to explode into popularity). That's 7 years, and they broke up permanently afterwards.
Green Day has been together for over 20 years and have had mainstream success for around 14 years. They've explored every ground of pop/punk music and have made punk music enormous, compared to the success of earlier punk bands.
Not only that, but they completed changed their theme of their music. What punk band has ever had the success of Green Day, then went into hiatus for several years, then released a new album with a completely new sound that that achieved global success in under a year? Not any as popular as Green Day! Also, I heard that before American Idiot, the completed a whole new album and someone stole it from the recording studio and then they created American Idiot after that. That's a pretty crazy story if you ask me and to even care about making music anymore after that, that's pretty bold.
I am an old time Green Day fan. I've even seen them live about four years ago after American Idiot came out. I like them when I was a little kid when Dookie came out and I still liked them after American Idiot. American Idiot was actually a great album in my opinion. Their latest album that I don't even know the name of I did not like so much but the point is, they are a great band and deserve to have a rock band game made for them.
The time period of how long a band is around for doesn't matter at all, it's the music, history, and fan base that counts. Green Day has good music (old and new), a compelling history of how they went from punk in Dookie to rock in American Idiot, and an enormous global fan base that's filled up the biggest stadiums in the world. Am I going to buy this game? Hell yea, and if you don't think it's worth it, then good for you, cheapskates! Wait another 6 month's or whatever unitl Rock Band 3, which will probably have alot of crappy songs on it.
