One port of a Wii exclusive I would like to see use Move:

No More Heroes...

(yes, I know they are working on a PS3 version)

I couldn't stand the pixelated cel-shaded mess of a graphic design in the first Wii No More Heroes. On a 40" screen, to me, it looked just horrible, that's why I am looking forward to the HD version. Now, if they only added the PS Move support... That would be truly epic.

Yeah, because doing it with your Wii phallus was much different.

Still, this game was made to be played that way. They seriously need to put optional Move support back in.

I really don't see why they would do it. Suda clearly felt it wasn't worth it to implement Motion Plus in NMH2, why would they go to further trouble for a device with less of an install base?

Wow. I can't express how fcked this situation is. Games from the Wii, essentially two GameCube's taped together with waggle gimmick controls... Are being ported to the PS3, what was chalked up as the most technologically advanced and sophisticated multimedia/gaming system of this generation (and currently ever).

So... Bad ports of Wii games are coming to the PS3? fcking god, I really hate Nintendo for ruining the video game market.

Nintendo probably saved the market again by making the Wii. Anyone that says that the Wii is ruining anything couldn't be more wrong. I can't remember a time when I was so flush with amazing AAA titles to play across every platform. If this is a ruined market then I hope they ruin it even more next gen.

wreturns is right. We have nothing to complain about. Great games from every direction. If you don't like wii crapware, then you have a ton of great 360 games and amazing PS3 games. Life's good.

And assuming every move game ported from wii will suck is assuming way too much. Most of them probably will, and we won't buy them. But some great stuff is probably going to come. A few wii games are a ton of fun and could benefit from a superior system.

Integrity is what I'm referring to. And no, the Wii hasn't "Saved" the market. They drew in an audience to the Wii that purchases about 2 games per year. They have not branched or breached into the PS3/360 market. You're an idiot if you think the Wii is a gateway system. PS3 and 360 would probably be carrying MORE sales if there wasn't a cheaper distraction out there.

No, saving the market in the 80's doesn't give you a pass to continuously sucking the quality out of todays game by making Peggle look like a core title.

My original point is Nintendo is ruining the market the way Hollywood has ruined film. Sure, it makes more money and pulls in a bigger audience. The bigger audience doesn't give a shit about the scene though. Do you think even close to 20 of Wii owners read gaming sites like Joystiq or Kotaku? I can damn near guarantee that at least 3x as many PS3 or 360 owners involve themselves in the scene and actually care about (or even know) what triple A titles are. Nintendo brings in more numbers, but not by a damn long shot are they putting out anything that will matter a year after release. No GotY awards in any category (Save for possibly Mario for platforming) - It's just a stop fluffer to make the industry as a whole look more profitable.

Really? Because looking over AIAS's history, the last time Nintendo had a game of the year was twelve years ago with Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. That was before they got their new president.

I know exactly what I'm talking about. You don't know what I'm talking about because you're too lazy to do the research to prove otherwise. It's just a lot easier to say "nu uh, you're wrong!" for you then to actually look into it and go "huh... Shit, he's right."

It's okay though, I hear ignorance is bliss. I'm sure you'll be quite happy standing in the dark.

Next thing you're gonna tell me is that Reality TV hasn't negatively impacted show quality.

Cheap to produce + lots of numbers = repeat for every show on air. In the end we're left with nothing to watch but American Idol, Survivor, Dancing with the Stars, Biggest Loser, who knows what else. They used to actually have writers, imaginations, style, and art direction for television and movies. The Wii's success is mirroring that push towards cheaper = better. Kind of hoped gaming would stay creative like books and comics. I guess another interesting medium is slowly circling the drain before someone hits flush.

Game of the Year is an arbitrary title in the first place but take a look at this:

http://www.gamerankings.com/browse.html

The top 2 are Nintendo games and the second came out in 2007. And I don't know about you, but to me and almost everyone else, the AIAS isn't the end all be all of what makes a game good or fun.

AIAS is a panel of professionals in the field. I trust their judgement more than Metacritic or Gamerankings. How many times have we seen games get reviewed poorly or overly well when on a payroll? Do I need to remind you of Kane and Lynch to recall how incredibly scrupulous the journalist are for the sites that contribute scores to game rankings?

Yes, Mario Galaxy is 2nd on there. Is it anything more than just Mario Sunshine or Mario 64? No, not really. It's the same gameplay, same art style, same direction, same characters, same music composition as Sunshine and 64. Fun is important, I'm not saying it isn't... But Tetris is fun. We can't just play the same games for decades. We need games that try new things, look in new directions, put a twist on what we're used to. Nintendo is trapping games in a complete 80's outlook, while companies like Quantic Dream, Naughty Dog, Bioware, Valve, Insomniac, Epic, and Bungie are creating a new definition of gaming for THIS generation. The Wii likes to encourage crap titles that are fun for 5 minutes and then wears thin. No depth, no longevity, no true innovation. Masking gimmicks for innovation in the controller was insulting. It would only change the experience if the game itself was something unobtainable without the controller. A game that linked the movements to actual experiences. Otherwise you end up with Tony Hawk Ride. Fancy controllers don't make a good experience. Rock Band/Guitar Hero didn't succeed because they have fake instruments. It's because they made the package experience as a whole something entertaining and unobtainable by any other means.

Until the Wii stops letting 95% of their games be shit, I will continue to be discouraged that all markets want to make their experience into a Wii clone. Why imitate something that's less than you just to make money if you're already successful? Nintendo created a craze, skewed the numbers on what the industry represents (there are not actually 50 million more casual gamers out there looking to break into gaming). They made the next furby, or tickle-me-elmo. Unfortunately, everyone else feels they have to clone it now.

"Every show on the air" was an exaggeration. I thought that was obvious. There are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule anyways though.

"Wrong again, Bbob. All I watch is super quality shit like Dexter, Breaking Bad, LOST, Community and, to a lesser extent, 24. To quote an earlier poster:"

I didn't include Dexter because that's not network TV - The rest though I kind of agree. I wouldn't say "super quality shit" defines them, but they do carry way more merit than Celebrity Fit Club. Can you honestly tell me that you don't see an overwhelming majority of prime-time TV viewership being reality TV now?

Sure there's more shitty stuff on the Wii than good stuff, but that's the same in every market and every medium. How many crappy movies are made every year? How many terrible books are written? But that doesn't stop the good ones from being made. What it boils down to is that shitty games on the Wii haven't impacted *me* in the least. I don't care if the hipster couple next door enjoys Carnival Games. How could that possibly matter? All I know is that I have a serious backlog that goes all the way back to finishing LBP and, as of right now, there is no end in sight.

Nintendo is saving the market because the market was focusing more and more inward, which is evident when you look at the kind of features that were being added to PS3 and 360, or even the kinds of new IPs being made. The industry was becoming too introspective, which would have led to trouble down the line

The Wii had the potential to ruin the market early on with cheap to make, gimmicky games generating far more profit than big, expensive high production value games. If they really stuck, then why would anyone continue to take the risk of spending $30 million on a big budget game to generate slightly profit than something that cost $300,000 and had very little risk?

Thankfully, that didn't stick and those games quickly faded, leaving the big budget epic games to still hold a decisive advantage in making big money.

So in the end, no harm done and the influx of good publicity and new attention towards gaming did the industry good.

dan, Nintendo probably isn't thrilled with this. Sony has historically been Nintendo's biggest competitor and all, but Nintendo will be just fine.

They are still selling a lot of products. They still have very popular and tightly controlled IP like Mario and Zelda. People associate them with family friendly, and their product will probably receive a substantial price cut and still remain profitable.

Nintendo is used to not leading in sales. They know they can't compete with MS and probably can't always compete with Sony in a world where people want content other than games. They have wisely found a niche so that they could be viable when others catch up to motion control. It'll be a long, long time until Nintendo is done making money in this industry.

The Wii's brand name is too strong to attract the group that it would have to lose to "die".

This is no different than MP3 players. Music enthusiasts know that there are alternatives to the ipod that are not only cheaper, but much better. However, the casual market (the majority of the market) neither knows this nor cares, they just want an ipod because, well because it's an ipod.

The internet? It's 2010, if you can't figure out how to buy stuff... well...

You probably live in the USA or another advanced economy. But there's a massive market beyond those economies for older technology like the PS2. It's beyond her apex, but it's still around.

I can only imagine what the PS3 will be like after ten years old. It's so much more versatile and future proof than her competitors or the PS2. I always thought it was such a huge waste of money to buy a PS3 and have had to eat a lot of crow lately. Not just because the 1st party titles are a lot better, but because blu-ray actually is taking off, and all these huge updates to capability keep coming.

With the economic downturn, I wouldn't be surprised to see the PS3 more relevant at 10 than the PS2 is.
