I loved those animated sequences in COD4, just the way the squad moved was the first thing that really caught my attention. I've never played a medal of honor game, but based on this writeup I'm pretty excited to get my hands on it.

I've been praying for a realistic modern shooter, and this looks to be it. I'm in the Army now, and as fun as MW2 is, its hard to call it realistic in a serious tone.

well, a truly realistic shooter wouldn't be fun to play at all. you'd have the tiniest, non-recharging health bar, you'd start limping/aiming poorly if you got shot even once, and would have to get medical aid then get carted off the battlefield, grenades would have a much larger kill/casualty radius than they do in almost all games, etc. i think you get my point.

Perhaps Shadowfire was referring more to MW2's goofy-ass campaign plot being disappointing rather than ultra-realism being needed?

Check out Red Orchestra and its mods (Darkest Hour and Mare Nostrum).

Also Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad.

Reminds me of a spoof article that The Onion did of Modern Warfare 3, "the most realistic shooter to-date". Players spend hours hauling equipment, cleaning vehicles, experiencing home sickness and "filling out paperwork." :)

@eNrique: I know. SOCOM is one of the most overlooked games out there. It's probably one of the most realistic shooters on a console. It has no regenerating health, it's got much more realistic damage modelling (a shot to the head means death, not like some games which want 2 shots to the head), and it also does away with the respawn (although it's available, you can't play it in a ranked game). It's probably the most tactical game on consoles, where everyone has a headset.

I'm really excited about Medal of Honor, and I didn't enjoy the first Modern Warfare online as much as others, because I thought it was a bit too arcade-y. I want non-regenerating health, 1 life per round game modes. I hope Medal of Honor can do this. Even if it can't, I still loved the trailer, I'll definitely look at this game, and probably pick it up.

maybe MW2's plot was ridiculous (though that doesn't bother me), maybe the characters weren't all that memorable, but as an American living in northern virginia, fighting through the DC suburbs and storming the white house was just plain fucking awesome.

anyway, i hope medal of honor has something to distinguish it from MW. just anything to set it apart.

I agree...the complaints about MW2's story are pretty stupid. I loved it...it was over the top and very engrossing, like a Michael Bay summer action movie. People who want realistic stories should stick to the History Channel IMHO.

Yeah, I thought the "scalpel" sections were stupid, but the "sledgehammer" bits in VA and DC were amazing. I live in Baltimore, and I gotta say, I almost threw up when I saw the Washington Monument after you come out of that little hole. And that bit with the PG County emergency broadcast system was genius. They did that part right, in my opinion.

Ok, I'll admit, breaking into the prison and finding out who you were going after was God damn awesome. The rest of it was pretty dumb.

Why not compare it to BFBC2? By far the better game as it's actually a 2010 title with more realistic factors to consider. BFBC2 sold 400% better than projected apparently, and the EA servers all but collapsed under the barrage of players.
I don't see how they plan on doing another DICE/EA multiplayer supported title when they're still in shock at the amount of PC gamers that jumped on to BFBC2.

P.S. MW2 was a fluke.

COD4 set it up with high expectations, the "leaked" airport footage set up mass hysteria and artificial controversy so all the angsty rebellious children would want to play it. The actual product got slammed on it's short singleplayer campaign, convoluted story, and hack/cheese laden MP experience, despite the contrary high numbers by those same written reviews.

I took a rabid MW2 fanboy and had him try bfbc2 and he went crazy afterwards, talking about how he should have joined the army and wanted to buy a real assault rifle. lol. It's pretty compelling, till I told him to tell me how many times he died and reminded him there is no respawning IRL. stick to paintball/airsoft.

Because they are comparing it to CoD 4's SP Campaign. Which was based on spec ops, while Bad Company is based on a regular run of the mill squad.

Medal of Honour trying to be a 'true' sequel to a Call of Duty game is pretty funny when you consider that CoD was the franchise created by ex-MoH guys trying to escape the evil EA execs.

multiplay will be an epic let down! all EA games are hosted on servers which have terrible connections to a lot of people, plus in about 8 months time the servers will shut down so you cant get the achievements.

the game does look great though, i am not slating that. its just a shame that EA are involved.

im sure they will soon milk the franchise to death, need for speed anyone. EA tend to focus on gettin a new game made my the same team out every year, so ad far as innovation goes i wouldn't expect much for the next game, at least with call of duty the team has 2 - 2 & a 1/2 years to work on the next instalment

Yeah its a real let down especially since the original COD for the pc had a really good single player experience. But to me its always been about the multiplayer, ive been playing call of duty and battlefield since the originals on the pc and to be honest the battlefield series shouldnt have a single player because its abesolutely horrible.

But the multiplayer is what makes them who they are, there was no single player with battlefield 2 and its up there as one of my favorite games. I would be perfectly happy if COD and Battlefield went mag style and stuck strictly to multiplayer.

And btw nobody but infinity ward should make cod games

The one thing I hope they do right is the reloads or the ability to do a Magazine plus one. I don't know why it gripes me so much but all these "realistic" games always have the same reload problem. IE half a mag is empty, I load a new one and the action is recharged, in sense ejecting a live round. Only time that should be done is when the mag is completely empty, no bullet in the chamber.

Put a mag in, chamber a round, new mag in. 30 round gun should now have 31 rounds. Little stuff like that, while not going to make me not buy a game makes me cringe each time I have to reload.

Well, since they tend to still misuse the term clip, I doubt they'll go that far.

it doesn't really matter in terms of how many rounds are the in mag, but it does matter in the sense that reloading is generally faster if you reload without emptying the clip, because then you don't have to cock the gun to load a round into the chamber. however, if you want to be that picky, shouldn't they have a mag-based ammo system? as in, instead of having one big pool of rounds, and getting a full mag every time you reload, you have a set number of mags with their own ammo count, so if you go through half the ammo in all of them, the next time you reload, you only get half a clip. it's far more realistic. however, it's also a pain.

Red Orchestra doesn't have this problem. For example, you've got a TT33 and swap the mag. Now you still have one round in the chamber with a fresh heavy magazine.

If we're going to be finicky about mechanics and vocabulary, it's a round (or cartridge) in the chamber, not a bullet.

Rainbow Six Vegas 1 & 2 are both very serious and "realistic" video games, shame they aren't more popular. Maybe it's due to the fact that 1 or two rounds is enough to kill you. They have the "1 mag + 1 in the chamber" perk, as well.

Sounds like it has a lot of promise. And with DICE doing the multiplayer, it could really shape up to be a good contender. Call of Duty needs a good competitor. (Battlefield is great, just different, so don't call me out on that.)

can someone help me out with this question. whats the difference between Electronics art MOH and EA BFBC2?

other than the obvious being different areas and different name.Is one suppose to be more single player oriented than the other because if DICE is actually working on the multiplayer section of MOH than really this should be much better than BFBC2?

sorry if this is obvious to 99.9 percent
