"Sakamoto pointed out the return of Metroid Fusion's Adam"

Now they are ripping off Bioshock!

I dunno I think he was joking. Isn't Adam a character in Metroid Fusion? So that'd be like two separate things.

The hell? Adam is the name of Samus's commander. Last time i checked Adam was a very common name.

That's what sarcasm tags are for. Text isn't always easy to decipher emotional meaning behind it.

I thought he was serious for a second before i remembered that there was no way he couldn't have known that Fusion predates BioShock by 5 years.

"Metroid fans approve of this new direction." Not me! Grumble grumble...this is sounding worse and worse.. If I wanted to watch a movie Id watch a movie.

I hope the cinematics are skippible at least, for my second playthrough.

If a game doesn't have skippable cinematics (I'll give the exception of the main introduction cinematics) then they must be high. It's like a must now.

"Considering the subsequent applause, it seems clear that Metroid fans approve of this new direction."

They are slowly destroying some of the greatest non-traditional aspects of the series. As a fan, I definitely do not approve.

Ugh. I feel like this is a friend tricking me into seeing his home movies.

We want to play metroid and now we have to sit through this random game designer's attempt to play movie director.

And here come the same stalwarts who were complaining about Metroid Prime "ruining the essence of the series." Have we learned nothing?

Forgive me if I trust Sakamoto-san, father of the series, over the grumblings of Internet fanboys. This new Metroid looks excellent from what we have seen so far... keep up the good work, N.

Thanks for being optimistic Bighouse - there aren't enough fans like you. I don't understand why people are being so uptight about the story elements in this game, especially when very little has been revealed to us. I think this will turn out just fine.

Yeah fo sho. An easy dose of optimism and patience is all that's needed here.

I expect this Metroid will be just as Metroidy of a Metroid as a Metroid should properly be!

But being pessimistic is win win situation if it sucks they are feel justified that you called it before it was released. if it is good sure you eat your words but you get a good game out of it

"The fans are usually right when they notice something amiss with a beloved series and this happens to be one of those times. "

Yeeah, like the first Metroid Prime. Or Zelda Wind Waker.

@Dv8thwonder

Yokoi-san was a genius! Unfortunately, he is no longer with us to share his thoughts on this new project.

They were both fathers of the series. Sakamoto was the director of Metroid, yes, but also of Super Metroid. I think that says plenty.

Go Yoshio! Argento is the man, and Deep Red is actually my favorite of his. We should have actual games based on giallo films.

Thank god its not on rails like he said it was originally planned to be, I would have traveled to japan and killed someone.

It's funny, I'm starting to develop this apprehension at every new announcement of any kind of game I like. How linear will it be? How dumbed down will it be? What will they have removed? It seems best to just assume the worst lately.

Frankly I have no trouble believing it immediately. Not with the way the game industry's been heading. Or what they made out of Metroid Prime 3.

Was it really a new trailer? When will we see it? And why the hell aren't they showing gameplay? Is Nintendo scared of something?

The trailer did feature gameplay. As for when it'll be released online, we're working with Nintendo on getting that (and another very cool video from the panel) on Joystiq.

Don't be too afraid of the gameplay, though. Read Randy's hands-on:

i doubt Nintendo is scared. it's called "starving your fan's so that, when the time come's, they'll eat it up". it's the same thing that they are doing with the demand for more Wii console's on store shelves.

Cool. I've just been agitated over developments regarding this game. Last time they got experimental with metroid they ended up with the best game of all time, but it could have ended up any number of ways.

Hell, Sakamoto said that if it weren't for Team Ninja's protests, this would have been an on-rails game, so you can understand my worry for the rest of it.

And while the hands-on impressions (from here and elsewhere) have been of great help clarifying what the still screens could not, none are a replacement for a proper video.

"You know that he (Sakamoto) wanted Other M to be a rail shooter but Team Ninja insisted it not be? If that ain't a clear sign that he wishes to destroy Metroid I dunno what will convince you otherwise."

especially when you consider the last 3 times Metroid games that tried to be shooters were DREADFUL and no one in their right mind who has any taste likes them

I mean, whats his next idea? Mario driving a little go-cart around with his friends? Or how about a fighting game that combined almost all of Nintendo's IPs? Boy, that would be a hoot!

So what you mean to say is that making Metroid into a rail shooter would be a good thing.

Uggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Ok but seriously, if you get Mario Kart you're still gonna get your mario platformers because mario is their main man and he needs a hundred games a year. If we get a metroid onrails shooter, that is likely the only thing we're going to be seeing from Samus whether we like it or not. No choice here.

Also you seem to be implying Metroid Prime 3 was not an empty shell of a Metroid Prime game. And guess what? We ain't getting anything else, unlike Mario fans.

I was kind of hoping Samus would be a withdrawn, socially awkward woman who simply doesn't know how to act due to her severe isolation as part of her job.
