I can see how Heavy Rain would cause lower sales. I probably would have passed Bioshock 2 for Heavy Rain if I owned a PS3.

Yea between exclusives like Heavy Rain, and God of War 3, not to mention non-exlusives like FF-XIII and Bad Company 2.... Bioshock 2 just isn't on my list right now. Maybe this summer though.

Bizzare they these publishers still don't get it. They shat on PS3 owners with the original Bioshock, and yet expect us all to rush out an buy the sequel?

I've got too many great PS3 exclusives playing right now to spend my cash with them. Why reward their disloyalty?

I also won't be buying any Valve titles either, when Valve come grovelling back to PS3.

You wish, Mark! Valve has sustained itself forever on the PC. Valve doesn't need 360 or PS3 sales at all.

Heavy Rain plus Bioshock 2 combined to sell less than the 360 Bioshock 2 alone. And didn't ME2 sell almost as much as Heavy Rain this month?

So that excuse would seem to be a bit of a reach. Actually, a lot of a reach.

The fact that most people consider it a 360 game probably had a lot more to do with it, just like when the PS3 version of FFXIII ultimately wildly outsells the 360 version next month.

For me was more like if I already had my money spent on Heavy Rain, FFXIII & God of War 3.

Eventually I will get this game but certainly it is not in my gaming priorities right now.

It's not that it was bad but it just really wasn't a good sequel, I rented it but didn't feel compelled or interested enough to finish it or even less so buy it.

it doesn't have the same charm of bioshock 1 but it has its own thing going for it.

its a sequal, it automatically is pigeon-holed into the sequal genre which has a track record of being inferior to originals. (many exceptions to this of course exist)

all in all bioshock 2 is a good game and worthy of the bioshock name.

I think this says something about the PS3. It's a strange pond with tougher competition. It's probably harder to make as much money, and many say it's a lot harder to develop for, but the competition is fiercer anyway. That's great for gamers, but I hope PS3 gamers buy more games as time goes on.

Personally, it wasn't just Heavy Rain (which I still need to play), but also FF13 and GOW. Plus, on the Xbox side, I recently played both Mass Effects (never got around to playing the first). It's second Christmas, after all, and some games will just have to wait until April/May. For me, it's Bioshock 2 and Bad Co.

It might also be due to Bioshock being more associated with the 360 since it was console-exclusive on it for a long time. Add in Heavy rain and soon enough God of war III which makes Bioshock 2 look pretty unappealing to PS3 owners.

they're the same. he's just saying bioshock might be associated with the 360 because the first one was only on the 360 for a while. Kind of like how Final fantasy is associated with playstation.

Exactly. Your average PS3 owner is simply less likely to be aware of BioShock than your average 360 owner, due to the severely timed exclusivity of the original (or did it ever come to PS3 at all, i forget)

I see I'm downvoted by fanatic fanboys that can't stomach the truth?
Even after patch first Bioshock was dissapointing port.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/analysis-bioshock-ps3-1-10-released

"BioShock on PlayStation3 is a classic example of a great game compromised by a disappointing conversion. It’s like a textbook rendition of what’s typically wrong with the poorer ports onto the Sony platform: lower, wildly fluctuating frame rate, lower resolution, and zero appreciable bonus content (that you don’t have to pay for) despite a wait of 12 months for the port. Plus a horrible blur on top of all that. The game has just been patched to remove its occasional lower resolution textures, its white bar that surrounds cut-scenes and numerous other small glitches. "

Good that Bioshock 2 is better port - still inferior on PS3 but not bad as PS3 ports sometimes go:
www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-bioshock2-face-off-article
"In terms of purchasing decisions for those who own both HD consoles, it's fairly self-evident that the Xbox 360 version of BioShock 2 is the one to have: graphics are undoubtedly superior with four times the resolution on transparencies, the frame-rate is undoubtedly smoother, there's no HDD-sapping mandatory installation and control varies from slightly crisper to considerably more responsive, depending on the status of the PS3's frame-rate at any given point."

I had none of those problems either, since I used the locked framerate. The framerate stuttering issue existed in all versions. The white bar was patched out and the blur was reduced.

There were no game-breaking bugs in the port, and it looked very good. I don't know who expects bonus content with a port anyway.

I never said the port was better, I just said they did a good job. A bad port is one that introduces game-breaking bugs or looks entirely like shit, usually because the port is an extreme afterthough. Bioshock was no better or worse than any other multiplatform title that was originally developed on the PC/360.

So would you kindly STFU and just play the game?

I personally bought Bioshock 2 on the 360 and will buy Heavy Rain and GoW3 for the PS3...see the pattern there? I would suspect many others do the same thing. The reality is that a LOT of gamers own both systems and many I know buy games for the PS3 ONLY when they are exclusives. It would be curious to compare sales of cross platform titles...I would suspect that the 360 version sells better more often than not.

Why the 360 though? If it fails (and they fail at a higher rate), that game's effectively out of commission until a repair or replacement occurs.

I use my 360 for exclusives. My multi-plats are on my PS3 in general.

Once it's scratched your discs a few times, you tend to spend less money in games for the 360...

@ kentuckyfried

because a lot of people who own multiple consoles are also early adopters, so they got the 360 first, built up their gamerscore/online community and don't want to give that up, especially with games that have multiplayer, like Bioshock 2.

Ok, I hadn't thought about that, makes sense esp. in regards to MP and just gamescores in general. I never realized that that many people put such an emphasis on them.

Trophies are nice and all, and I sometimes go the extra mile to get them, but I never placed them as a mandatory requirement for completion.

Damn...the haters are out here in full force. I just asked a question.

in the end, I don't have friends on either console that care about these scores.

to each his own, but I think Bioshock is a great game. I don't really mind backtracking if implemented well, which this was. FPSs are a great way to get into the game, but it's been done to death. Bioshock innovated the FPS into something so much better. It's pretty, it's interesting, the dynamics reward thinking. The plot is dumb and typical, but I didn't mind too much.

If you like FPSs and don't like Bioshock, I think you're boring. If you just can't stand FPSs and also Bioshock, I can understand that. One of the best $20 I ever spent (I'm a cheapskate and buy games used unless they are truly special).
