I was really pleased with this game. The difficulty of the bosses was surprising and rewarding. Felt a lot like tekken and GTA combined with a few RPG elements.

I gotta be honest. These scores are surprising. I didn't really take too kindly to the demo..

Have you played the other ones, or is it your first time?
3 was my first, and I have to admit, the boss was EXTREMELY overwhelming. I had the feeling I didn't know what to do, but then I realize that there's different weapons and skills you can have. I bought it.

I tried the demo and was severely disappointed with the combat. It seemed very last gen.
Can any of you tell me that the demo was just a bad choice, and that the rest of the game was much better?
I want to pick it up... but the demo left such a bad taste in my mouth.

If you're wondering about Yakuza 4 as in comparison to 3, the demo is out in the JP Store for download. New modes and mini-games, and pretty impressive upgrade in facial emotions. Don't like the main guy in that as much as the one in 3.

Kazuma now plays a secondary role?

I'm still stuck on Yakuza 1 right now, lol. No spoilers, please, or at least minimal.

Give our current luck, we'll get 20-30% of those mini-games cut for the US edition. =(

yakuza 4's demo looks very polished, looks like they learned quite a bit since 3 to improve the game.

Seems like a good beat em up to get down the line. I do not approve of their reasoning behind cutting alot of side quests and content during localization, but I'll look past that to get the game on the cheap.

ive played this for 8 hours and am only 5% through, I got this and FF13 this week. So far I've enjoyed Yakuza 3 much more. I came across this father one day who couldn't carry his 4 SIX SCOOP ICE CREAM CONES to his family so I had to carefully walk them there avoiding cars honking at me while Im yelling at my tv "IM WALKING HERE!!!"

Sounds like some mobster daring-do. (implied eyeroll)

I only played the first Yakuza to completion and, frankly, I've never understood the fascination with these games. The stories are average mobster fair and the side missions are utter nonsense; pure bottom rung shonen heroics junk.

Throw in the clunky PSX era 3rd person brawling (tarted up with some environmental interactions) and I'm left oblivious to the appeal.

the appeal is how unique it is. While the 3rd person brawling might not be as complex as say Devil May Cry it serves its purpose and its highly entertaining. The boss battles also require precise timing with the dodges, attacks, and blocks. I'm an above average gamer and even on normal the boss battles are tough without the aid of items. The normal battles are fairly easy but I can't wait to play on Hard mode.

Also the story is fantastic. They spend a huge amount of time developing the characters in really good ways. Even though the game is fairly old the facial animations are fantastic. I love how the main character Kazuma is a highly honorable man in a highly dishonroable environment. I love going around town and teaching fools respect! Theres LOTS of side missions, lots of stuff to find, lots of punks to beat on, lots of upgrades to unlock.

If you enjoy games where you kick ass and have some good laughs while enjoying an engaging story then Yakuza 3 is for you. nuff said

^^Agreed.

I can't comprehend how kick-ass this game is. I really like the boss battles, feels like a perfect blend of Tekken and GTA. The weapons are cool too. I've encountered some framerate issues, not enough to damper the experience though.

So is this one better than the previous ones? I played the first one for like a half hour and never played it again. It's not that it was bad, it just couldn't keep my interest.

The first one starts off damn slow, admittedly. Fighting is a bit clunky. That's why I've been off and on with it for years now...kept falling asleep during that tutorial, and then not going back to it for months.

Compared to the first, Yakuza 3 seems to be a game that not only looks better, but plays much better than that very first game. And the story seems to pick up faster.

Anyone that has played the other two and are thinking about not getting this due to the cut content, get over yourself and play it.

It's too bad the stupid half of Sega is completely sabotaging this game. I'm sad that by the time I can afford to buy it, I won't be able to find it.

I have no idea why this got downvoted. It was released on the same day as Final Fantasy XII, ffs. Try to deny they're not screwing this up intentionally.

Yakuza 3 doesn't compare to GOW3, did you play the demos? The year old demo of GOW3 wipes the floor Yakuza 3. At best Yakuza 3 will be a distraction between other releases.

Guess I should've mentioned that I also ignored Final Fantasy XIII for GOW :P
