"But nothing's ever been announced about this game" - why doesn't Nintendo acknowledge that they DID announce the game? Publically? In Nintendo Power? They're pretending they never made that slipup.

Nintendo Power never made the announcement, it was Game Informer who announced it... then announced it was canceled.

Well it's good to see that, at the very least, they have big plans for evolving the Metroid franchise in the future and keeping the Samus installations coming.

Yeah. I really liked what he said about how they're first going to develop the universe in Other M and then move forward.

It's pretty reminiscent of what happened with the Prime games. That fact that the Prime series was still going allowed them to produce Hunters on the DS.

Can't to see what they have planned.

Didn't they say like a year ago that the project *did* exist and just didn't work out very well? (with some indication that they might *also* still have been working on it) I'm not imagining this am I?

Metroid Dread was a real project announced. We weren't all on LSD or anything. Nice try Yoshio.

They had a 10-second trailer of the game at some point too. It was so bad that it surprised absolutely no one when the game was never mentioned again.

Joystiq: "So what's the deal with Metroid Dread?"
Sakamoto: "I don't know nothing about that." *wink* *wink*

I had always assumed this was one of those games the Nintendo community had effectively willed into existence, kinda like Super Mario 128, taking fragments of statements and conflating them into a game

Though who knows what was real at one point, and wasn't...

No, it was definately listed on a release scedule at one point along with several other unannounced games that ended up being made (ex: Super Princess Peach I think was on there before being announced)

wait this title is kinda misleading, he wasn't saying that he couldn't say metroid dread never existed, he was saying that he couldn't deny they were working on a 2D metroid for the DS

" . . . before we start to introduce different elements like online . . . "

Please take this off your list of priorities for the series. That is all.

I'd still like to see Metroid II get the "Zero Mission" treatment :)

I'd love to see the original Legend of Zelda get the "Zero Mission" treatment. That is to say, a fresh coat of paint (better graphics/sounds), an improved save system, and a usable map. In my wildest fantasies, this would be released on the GBA, but in reality, I accept that system to now be dead.

I'd really love a 2D Metroid game on the DS! Also... "first raise knowledge about the Metroid universe and the Samus character before we start to introduce different elements like online or even going back to another handheld game for the next in the series." That quote really worries me. Online in Metroid??? WHO THE F$@% wants Online in a game that is all about ISOLATION and exploration... I'm already worried with the Other M screenshots that show those Haze/Master Chief people with Samus... Ugh!

I'd love a 2D sidescrolling Metroid, on console! I'd even get it on the Wii.

Think Shadow Complex... but with Metroids!
