Y'know, OnLive and Gaikai aren't the only game-streaming services on the block. OTOY has been laying low for a minute, but the "other" game streaming service has finally made its big announcement: it's going to release in Q2 2010. In fact, OTOY isn't just a service for streaming games; there are now claims of streaming movies, PC applications and "other graphically-intensive applications" to any mobile device with a web browser.
OTOY will employ AMD Fusion Render Cloud technology, a CPU/GPU server platform that will stream games straight into your see pee youz through the company's software suite. And if you have no idea what that means, check out a demo of the service right here, courtesy of TechCrunch -- basically, it's like playing games on your computer. What a novel idea!

Looking forward to seeing these services fail when they realize this isn't the Matrix, and the laws of physics *actually apply*.

I don't know what country all of these game streaming companies are catering to: the ones that are too huge to have nationwide broadband (especially faster than ~3Mbps), or the ones with bandwidth caps that would be used up within hours of using these services?
I have decently fast service through AT&T U-Verse (they call it fiber optics, but it smells like DSL to me), but even it gets bogged down during downloads.
With streaming high resolution video as my reference point, I shudder thinking of the stutters and lag a streaming game would offer under all but the most optimal conditions.
I mean, shit! Assassin's Creed 2 on PC! With all the stink people are raising over two games with DRM that requires a constant internet connection, can you imagine the bitchfest that would be sparked by people not being able to access an entire game library?
