Mr. Kelly,

That is probably one of the most in-depth, well-prepared interviews I have ever read on a website.

Seriously, outstanding job.

Wiizer, that's very gracious of you. However, I can't take the credit. Chris Grant did this interview with me, so I'm like 5%. He's the man. Well, 95% of the man, anyhow.

^ It was a great read. Thank you, very very much.

It was sad to read this, though it was expected:

"So definitely nothing on the single player side of things."

It would be great if there's a smaller scale DLC game or something that explores Nathan's earlier years. A wealth of material exists there (potentially).

Naughty Dog, you are the most amazing developer ever. To be honest I don't even care if you go back to Jak and Daxter, Uncharted or a new IP. I will buy whatever you make.

Ah, so that's what it means. Kudos Joystiq.

Now back to reading the interview. (Then back to FF13. 52 hours in and still nowhere near the end.)

And you still have to kill one of those Adamantine without using Vanille's 'instant death attack'!

You guys are probably further than me, how the hell do you beat that Fal'Cie boss at Taejin's tower? I get him down to like half health then he just kills me in one hit.

I just beat him right now actually (in Oerba and dying badly near the end of the town).

Maybe I was a little over powered (all my characters had at least one role filled and most of the second), but for me it was really just about making sure I had shell and I think it was veil on all party members.

I'm going with the default team, Hope/Lightning/Fang. Relentless Assault Rav/Rav/Com, Diversity Rav/Med/Com, Protection Syn/Med/Sen, Combat Clinic Med/Med/Sen, Delta Attack Rav/Com/Sen...

It's good to have Hope use his Synergist abilities to lessen the damage received. Anytime your entire party loses a lot of HP immediately switch to Combat Clinic and you should be back to full health in a turn or two. Use Diversity whenever you want to attack but are worried about health, and use Relentless Assault as soon as you break him.

It took me once or twice, but as long as I had Hope shelling the party I was mostly alright.

Now come talk to me again after I beat this boss in Oerba. He's a bitch. 3,300,00HP or so, and during his last 90,000HP he casts Doom on me. Even with Alexander I still can't beat him.

Protip: Summoning an Eidolon temporarily halts the Doom clock until the Eidolon has been dispatched.

I still dream that one day Sony will buy the rights to the Crash and Spyro franchises from Activision and they'll revive them as PSN or PSP titles. I grew up playing the old PS1 games. They were such a major part of my childhood. While Wrath of Cortex on PS2 was passable (minus the ungodly load times), everything from both series since then has been a disaster.

I love Uncharted, I love Jak & Daxter, but Crash is where my heart is at, and I wish that Naughty Dog would get the green light to break off a small part of their studio and do a PSN/PSP game. Hell, I'd buy a fucking PSP Go for that, and that's saying a lot.

@ Traceur_Ryuk

I have the first three Crash games, but they haven't put CTR on the US store yet, which kinda sucks. As much as they're fun, I wish we could get an HD Crash Bandicoot with some of polish you'd expect from a high end PSN/XBLA game (and trophies/achievements), or a game that takes full advantage of the PSP hardware and keeps up with the times and does a few things new.

That would be incredible. As much as I'd like to see the old MGS games remade in HD with MGS4 gameplay or the first Halo remade in HD with all the new stuff Reach is bringing to the table for matchmaking and the party system, a modern day Crash that stays true to the PS1 era and doesn't suck is my dream, and I know Activison can't and won't deliver that.

But they can try... once a year for the next 6 years until people are sick of seeing the name Crash Bandicoot in stores.

Just like Vivendi did. Wrath of Cortex on PS2 was passable, and honestly, I'd kill for a Crash game even on that level these days, but every console title since then has been terrible. Nitro Kart, Twinsanity, Tag Team Racing, Crash Of The Titans, and Mind over Mutant were all fucking atrocious and couldn't hold a candle to the PS1 era platformers or CTR.

I wonder how working at Naughty Dog really feels like. On the surface it sounds like creative heaven, but the reality is that it's a pressure cooker, just a more pleasant one than others.

I remember the other day ND mentioning that they decided, for the future, to put a cap on how many hours a person could work. That's intense. =D Usually people (like yours truly) are trying to get away with the minimal.

Sony should give them the resources they need to work on two games! Seriously, they could hire a bunch of new programers and break the studio up in two teams. Just add something extra to the other teams name like Naughty Dog: East...

The main team could work on Uncharted and the other could do Jak or a new IP. After the awesomeness that was Uncharted 2, I think a new Jak & Dexter/New IP would sell extremely well.

Expanding a development studio isn't that easy. A lot of the hurdles with expanding a studio comes from organization. That in itself brings out issues of trust and comfort.

You probably wouldn't feel comfortable with suddenly having 100 new coworkers to deal with on top of mentoring them and so on.

Props to Joystiq for not asking inane questions, about stuff they obviously can't answer, and only focusing on the important stuff.
And props to Naughty Dog for not avoiding questions and answering them completely and in-depth!

The first Jak & Daxter was one of the most perfectly-balanced games I've ever played. It was just the right level of difficulty and you could even get the full 100% if you wanted, without having to spend your entire life in front of the PS2. Which wasn't to say it was simple. Another J&D as good as that, on PS3, would be most welcome.

There's something about the (co-)president of anything saying "That's awesome." that just gets me. I think it's awesome.

I scoured the whole internet to find a PS3 with backwards compatibility almost exclusively so I could play Jak & Daxter games again.

First, I just want to say that Naughty Dog, is by far, one of my favorite developers. In all reality, A new Jak And Daxter in this generation would be greatly welcomed by all of its followers. If you want my opinion, along with thousands, maybe millions of other gamers and fans, the jump to make a PS3 generation Jak and Daxter would be phenomenal. Not only that, but I know it would sell by the boatloads...especially if it were truly the next level up from the last generation. If the love and care go into the next installment of Jak and Daxter as it was for Uncharted 2, then what else is there to think about...the game would be spectacular!!! Listen to your fans and followers Naughty Dog and make it happen....you won't be disappointed! And you will surely line your pockets full of profits, your egos full with humble pie, and your hands with even more awards. Naughty Dog 4 Ever

P.S. Here is a suggestion if you are not sure on what IP to go with: Take up a poll or survey with the fans, followers and gamers in mind asking their opinion on what they would like to see next: A.) Next Generation Jak and Daxter; B.) a brand new IP; C.) More Uncharted; D.) Uncharted PSP

I trust that the numbers would be overwhelmingly in favor of a Next Generation Jak and Daxter.....here's to hoping!

I'm glad Wiizer was first, because about halfway through this I thought, Holy Crap this is the best, most in-depth, knowledgeable interview with a video game person that I have ever read. The author knew about ICE (I didn't) and some crucial things that caused deep questions to just bubble up. Awesome, awesome interview. And I hope they make Jak & Daxter for ps3!

I can't read ps3fanboy at work, so I have to settle for psu.com (it's so un-inspired, it reads like a telegraph message). When I get home and turn to ps3fanboy I always make sure I have plenty of time-- because I know I'm going to be reading some of the best talent in videogame land. This site has a ton of great writers with all sorts of clever, well-written pieces that make all sort of clever, well-written references to various parts of the genre. It's always got history, in it. Thank you!
