The latest trailer for EA's upcoming reboot of the Medal of Honor series, which debuted this week on GTTV, really goes out of its way to explain exactly the kind of gentlemen you'll be piloting this summer. These guys are Tier One Operators -- "experts in the application of violence." That seems pretty self-explanatory ... but we've never been able to turn down a video featuring expertly applied violence. Check it out after the break.

medal of honor is loooking nice so far ... if they can do 60fps .. instant buy for me... i doubt its online will be as addictive as MW2 ... but if they co-op im sold.
so lets streamline this. 60FPS + co-op=instant purchase :)

In Ratchet and Clank: Crack in Time, Insomniac proved this theory by having the game run at 30fps and 60fps(different parts) to see if anyone would notice. And they didn't. So that's why the next Ratchet and Clank will only be 30fps.

On a standard def. TV you dont have to change your output resolution, as standard def TVs in a given country run at a particular resolution. I dont even think the 360 lets you adjust the res if you are on an SD tv.
On an HDTV you may have to do some tinkering, in between things like 1080i, 720p, and 1080, however...
Most people couldnt tell the difference between 720p and 1080p in a typical homesetup due to limitations of the human eye. Have 2 50 inch TVs, 1 running at 720p and another at 1080p, put the average human 7 feet away from them, and scientifically speaking the differences are not really noticable to the human eye.
1080i might require a quick adjustment, but Xbox's, at least, are pretty good about adjusting that automatically.
The xbox had an issue with confusing HDCP HDMI with VGA resolutions, but that was fixed in a patch.
The only REAL adjustment most people playing on either HD or SD tvs would have to do would be if they are using the VGA adapter cable.
"Heck, a lot of people who play online don't even know how to change their firewall settings."
I would wager that most people playing online just jack straight into ethernet, which requires no adjustment. A few people might be using a shared internet connection, but if you are spart enough to setup one of those then you are smart enough to adjust firewall settings. The default firewall in your average router is so weak that its doesnt really require any adjustments. Ive been behind 3 different routers on my xbox 360 and the only tinkering I ever had to do was one time I had to forward a few ports for Battlefield 1943. Even then everything else worked fine. Firewall adjustment is sort of a "if you need it, you need it bad" sort of thing. You arent going to get a serious performance gain just by turning it off if its not giving you any issues.
Cant say Ive ran into many people claiming XBL has dedicated servers, but I cant say I make a habit of asking, so I suppose that could be true.

How do you know what his visual tolerance is? Some people easily notice this sort of thing. Hell, I can tell the difference between a monitor running at 120Hz vs. 60Hz (CRT, of course), especially after I've been on 120Hz for an extended period of time.
That said, is FPS really the only thing that matters? If it's running at a constant FPS, then 30 should suffice. It's still smooth enough. Hell, the human eye begins to put images together at like, 13FPS.

At least in PC games, the difference between 30 and 60 FPS can be huge. Crysis running on my laptop and barely getting 30 feels completely different from a (relatively, that game really is crap for optimization) stable 60 on my new computer. It's not the difference between a game being playable or not, but there's cases where you'd notice. That said...I'd imagine Ratchet and Clank is not one of those cases being a platform game. On the other hand, playing Quake 2 at 25 FPS all those years back was silky smooth. It really depends on the game.

To pretend that there isn't a noticeable difference between 60FPS and 30FPS is just foolish. Not only does it look smoother, but it controls smoother. You're seeing response from your controller/mouse in half the time that you would at 30FPS, since a new frame is being displayed twice as often. You don't have to be a "pro gamer" or anything to notice the difference, either.
Oh, and the whole "movies are 24FPS thing" is a totally invalid argument. Film is completely different and has natural motion blur as well. Not to mention it's not moving the way a video game does. Ever noticed how much judder there can be in a movie when the camera pans? Part of that is the limitations of a low framerate.

Part of this argument goes back to something I've been screaming about since this generation began... resolution by itself means almost nothing.
Strictly speaking, making a game run in 'hi res' takes up absolutely NO MORE SPACE or effort than running it at the lowest possible resolution. Games like quake 1 could run at 2,560x1,600 long before such a display was invented (or available to 99.9% of the public anyway).
The same exact game as was released in 1996. No more space or additions are required to do this. It's all about what the hardware can reliably render.
Now... does running it at that res really HELP the games' visuals???? ehhh. Once you get past 1680x1050 its really a wash. But that's because the techniques are limited and the textures are all comparatively low res.
One thing that people need to realize is there are just too many factors at play.
What is the native res (if any) of the game renderer (engine)?
What is the native res of the textures?
What is the native res of the display you're using?
What FPS was the game designed for?
What is FPS were the animations designed for?
If done correctly, a game designed for 720p @ 30fps will run and look better than the same game forced to run un-natively at 1080p @ 60fps. More is not always better.
It's also about balance. How many more effects can they stuff in there if they go for 30 instead of 60? What kind of game is it? There is no one right answer in the argument.
Different devs will accomplish different things in different genres with different techniques.
Consistency is much more important than running balls out all the time. Carmack proved this with the doom3 engine (one of the first PC engines to be locked at 30fps). Optimizing the framerate (through v-sync or not) is also the best way to avoid screen tearing... which I'd argue affects more people's eyes/brain than 60vs30fps does.
Yes, some people are mistaken about what is and isn't important in the tech of a video game... but regardless of anyone's knowledge of the subject, there simply isn't a blanket correct answer. Let's stop arguing about it while we're ahead.

I don't know how much of this was sarcasm or humor but just in case...
Yeah, the reality of the war going on is that there are innocent looking people doing non-innocent things. This war isn't being fought by two groups with identifiable uniforms.
But I also got I'll be using vehicles more than I'll be sneaky-stabby out of the video.

This game really has to bring something new to the table if they want to get some sales. Allow me to tell you guys what is currently on the table...
MW2 = Tasty Cheese
MAG = 256 Slices of Cheese
BC2 = Realistic Cheese
I can't imagine what other variations of cheese people would want...

What I'd really like to see is an FPS-RTS hybrid game, where you can build and order around troops, then jump into the fray yourself. They could always make the RTS elements optional (AI-controlled) if they want to "keep it casual."

I think it is North. I mean, he can do some amazing voices. I didn't know until I watched the credits that he voiced La Crochet in The Saboteur. I was seriously just sitting there with my jaw open like "SERIOUSLY!?".
He has talent, but people are misusing his amazing talent to voice act just so people can say "HEY, REMEMBER GAME OF THE DECADE, UNCHARTED 2? WELL WE GOT THE GUY WHO DID THAT IN OUR GAME." But that doesn't appear to be the case in this game, which is nice.

bad company 2 is good ... but i don't perfer it over modern warfare. although i will admit that MW2 gets boring after all the camping and ish... its still fluid and nice feeling.
and if you had one screen running 30fps and the other running 60fps .. it would be extremely hard to say you don't notice a difference. i mean have you actaully played a pc game at 30 and then at 60 ??? its day and night man.
