I'm guessing you've never seen an episode of SW:the clone wars animated series? The clones pretty much have free range to do what they want to their hair and face, the only time they have their helmets off is during chow.

I think this was the stupidest move to make. They (Lucas/Bio) should of capped off a trilogy THEN do an MMO.

..sigh.

Its a shame that with almost everyone touching the game and playing the demo calling it a really polished, finished experience that its release date is still estimated at nearly a year away in 2011. I would really enjoy seeing this game be released around ... summer 2010 so I could play it during my summer break from university while working.

Or, you know, before WoW can figure out what they're doing that's unique and totally rip it off before they release.

I'm really hoping this game is an MMO for me. Basically I want a co-op KOTOR where interacting with people I don't know or care about is an optional thing and I don't have to wander around killing random things. I don't really acre to learn what DPS means or how to craft shit.
I know a lot of people are hoping for the exact opposite and to have it turn into every other MMO, so hopefully they can strike a good balance between bioware fans and MMO fans.

If you don't want to do any MMO stuff, then why are you going to play an MMO? DPS, skills, quests, storylines, interaction, etc... are what make MMO's great.

Because I like KOTOR and I want more of it. Bioware has been advertising this as KOTOR 3,4,5 etc... So if they are advertising it as that, then that's what I want. So I'm hoping that all that boring stuff for dirtbags will be left out and I can have a co-op kotor.

I think you're going to get what you've wished for more than the average MMO fan will.

Everything about this game puzzles me. Their loftiest promises revolve around "story," but how long will the story last? With STO players complaining about reaching endgame in 80 hours, just how much narrative content is Bioware making?

My main concern is segmentation; segregation of players based on progress. It's something that already happens in WoW. It used to be very transparent (you can't go here because you don't have the key), but since they introduced "phasing" in Wrath of the Lich King, it's become more opaque. You might be standing next to a person, but because of your differing progress in a narrative related quest chain, you could be looking at completely disparate landscapes.

That means either playing everything in unison with a group, backtracking to catch the rest of the group up to you, or just waiting until you happen upon someone whose progress matches yours. Regardless of how, it complicates the "multiplayer" portion of MMO.

The whole premise is baffling. They offer so many claims about narrative and your impact on the game world and creating this story unique to your character, but why make that an MMO? Where does multiplayer, let alone massive multiplayer, factor in to that?

blegh... that character design is weaker than expected. The heavy gun is pretty silly looking too... Know it's only 2 screen caps, but meh?

Pure crystalized awesome. I think a lot of people are going to want to play soldiers, because in my MMO experience, the damage dealer is always the most popular class. And soldiers look like exactly that -- the guy who stands back and deals massive damage. Jedi warriors sound like they're going to be tanks, diving into the middle of enemies and probably killing them one at a time (or at least without a lot of focus on AoE attacks) whereas soldiers are all about mass destruction.

"Top-notch writing?" The Joystiq folks keep acting like they're literary critics. Which is all well and good, until you let writers from other mediums into the room and watch as they laugh at the claims that Bioware is the pinnacle of storytelling.

Soo... the same style as Star trek online. no auto attack, and moving around and lobbing 'nades. This is exactly what I do with my statical officer on the ground. I mean, I wasn't sure if I was reading About STO or the Old Republic...

Nobody (and I mean nobody) praised the script for Avatar, certainly not as an example of masterful writing, so I don't see what you're doing other than erecting a highly flammable straw-man.

Cavemantom,
You raise a lot of good points (although I don't understand the references, not being an avid MMO player.) my guess is that the instances will be diablo-esque where you are brought into that person's story-line for the mission.
Basically, I hope they find the balance between the people who want a rich story based kotor experience and those who really just want a decent MMO set in the star wars universe.
