We've read all the available info about the new Modern Warfare 2 map collection "Stimulus Package," but we still didn't have an answer to the big question on everyone's mind: "Is that the game with a bunch of guys or the one with the beards?" That, we still don't know. However, we've gotten an answer to the second biggest question from Xbox Live's Major Nelson: The five maps (three new, two remakes) will run you 1200 MS points or $15.
As a basis for comparison, the "Variety" map pack for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare ran 800 points ($10) for four new maps. Whether or not the new offering is a stimulating enough value is a decision you'll have to make for yourself when it arrives on March 30.

Or you can go and enjoy Bad Company 2 instead.
I mean seriously, $15 for 4 maps? And they have the balls to call it a stimulus package?
A stimulus for their bank accounts, maybe, but certainly not for the player.

Bad Company 2 is not without its flaws. Its gameplay is quite good. There are some flaws, but for the most part, this is its best aspect. Pretty much everything outside of the gameplay is broken. The server browser for one thing, is completely inexcusable.

I won't be paying. I stopped playing MW2 in December, I don't hate the game but the maps aren't as good as the last games and the community is full of cheap noobs.
I was hoping that having some of the old maps again would get me back into it but this price is far too much.

I love battlefield but seriously it's nothing but connection issues when you finally get into a game. and the last time 3 times I tried to start the game it prompted me to download an update, which, by the way just restarts my PS3 with out downloading it.
On top of that the VIP access to "Free" maps just unlocks two that are already on the disc that I already paid for. and the two "new" maps coming at the end of the month aren't new at all, they are just modes that they turned off for two maps, so that they could turn them on when MW2 has a map pack.
That's some sneaky sh!t. Am I really expected to think that the same map used for rush and conquest are that different that they had to wait a month to release on of the modes?
at least with this $15 I get 3 new maps that 2 remakes that will work with every mode
which by the way...two modes in Battlefield? seriously? two? that's a joke, the gameplay is definitely better but for $60 I expect a little more.

Nowhere did I say Modern Warfare 2's system was better. I've had a lot of problems with MW2 matching me up with level 60s actually. But can't both of them be crap? I play on the PC, and it takes around 2 minutes to load up the servers, and most of them show "-" as ping. I have also experienced incorrect player counts, and this is ignoring the widespread connection issues.
Battlefield is great when it works, but it really pisses me off when it doesn't, especially given the fact that these problems were nonexistent on the beta.

@Space
Battlefield is more about emergent gameplay. There are many ways you can go about your Rush objective, some of the more comedic ones being C4ing your UAV and ramming it into the station.
The VIP stuff is just to add incentives to buying the game new. It's part of EA's $15 program.
I do agree with you about the connection issues, though.

I'm just saying for a $60 game, rush & conquest and hardcore rush & conquest is a little light. that is four modes.
What about search and destroy, team death match, capture the flag, sabotage, free for all?

I don't want to say anything negative about bad company 2 because it's just so much better than mw2 right now, but yeah, you're right. I actually got into a rush game on laguna presa on accident. There was no one else in itand I got dashboarded'd after a few minutes. So, yeah, they're holding out on us, but I understand why and I'm really not all that angry about it.

They are not really free. The only free maps are the ones which are already in the game, but simply getting support for new game modes added to them. Any new maps WILL cost money, EA has already announced this. Do your research first please.

Well, first of all guys, you don't know if they aren't new. If any of you played the first Bad Company you would realize that the maps in Gold Rush were vastly different from their Conquest counterparts, the only thing that was similar was the name and the basic setting. The map "Oasis" was a perfect example of this.

First of all, I'd just like to say kudos for being a good sport and putting your Honorary Planateer tag in your name...
Second, Maybe if you didn't provoke the "Battlefield Fanboys" and just politely stated your opinion you'd be better off...maybe.

I believe a more appropriate Keanuism would be:
"Yeah. Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I may have a better one. How about, I give you the finger and you give me my phone call."

I'm pretty sure the reason you got downvoted is because buying this propagates this outrageous price-gouging. The fewer people that buy it, the more we can all hope that this outrageous price-point goes away. These are especially week because unlike most other map-packs, they don't come with extra achievements, so you get even less for your money.

They were free, but came out like 4 months after the consoles. This was because maps were handled server side, and they didn't have a good way to sell them to the players. Why do you think they got rid of dedicated server support? It was to sell maps.

In all this, PS3 and PC owners get shafted because they have to wait a month later for the maps. And probably have to pay just as much for them.
If Activision really cared (ha!), they would have just made MW2 a 360 exclusive.
And we all know that COD: MW2 Game of the Year Edition with all DLC will come out this year or next.

$15 for 5 maps, 3 are re do's!!! WTF Activision??? I bet if this game only sold a couple of million copies, this map pck would sell alot less.
As much as this sucks, I'll end up downloading it when it comes out. %&@%

So let me get this straight, you think the price is ridiculousness but you're still going to buy it anyways? There's a little thing called voting with your wallet. Instead of rewarding Activision for their actions how about you punish them for screwing over the customer.
Or are you so far up Kotick's ass that you can't help but buy it?
