NintendoWare Weekly: Rage of the Gladiator, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood

Today's Wii downloadable releases look like they'll work nicely together. When Medusa heads have murdered you enough times in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, you can switch over to Rage of the Gladiator and smash them in first person!

Rage of the Gladiator (Nintendo Media Summit 2010)

WiiWare

Rage of the Gladiator (Ghostfire Games, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points): First-person fighting against mythical monsters -- with RPG elements. It even supports MotionPlus!
Triple Shot Sports (The Code Monkeys Ltd., 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): A simulation of three target sports: Archery, Pistol Shooting, and Free Rifle.

Virtual Console

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (Turbografx-16 CD-ROM, 1 player, 900 Wii Points): Richter Belmont and Maria Renard make their Castlevania debut. This is the first Western home console release for this game, which was the basis for (and included on) Dracula X Chronicles for PSP.

DSiWare

Zoo Frenzy (Gameloft, 1 player, 500 DSi Points): Create your very own zoo, and keep the animals happy and healthy through minigames. Apparently the brightest among your zoo animals will fight monsters for you?
101 MiniGolf World (Teyon, 1-8 players, 500 DSi Points): This minigolf game has 100 holes! That's a lot of minigolf!
Battle of Giants: Dinosaurs -- Fight for Survival (Ubisoft, 1-2 players, 800 DSi Points): Explore the prehistoric world as your own customized dinosaur, find buried fossils to enhance your abilities, and, of course, battle giant dinosaurs.
Car Jack Streets (Tag Games, 1 player, 800 DSi Points): The iPhone GTA-alike parks on DSiWare.

it matters.... somewhat. i have the original pc-engine version as well as the psp ver.
i just wonder if the left it 100% or used the psp audio.

Rhondo of Blood is a great game, though if you've got a PSP you can get the Chronicles game that comes with the updated version, the original version AND Symphony of the Night for as low as $14 on UMD.

Though if you're rolling DS phat, DS lite, DSi, DSiXL (did I get them all?)or a Wii - pick this up for some good old linear goodness.

Though the lack of being able to run can lead to some frustrating segments.

.... DS can't play Virtual Console games... So... just a Wii.

I can't wait to play Rondo of Blood but I think it's bullshit that they add $1 to the price just because it's an import. Why not add the translation that's already available and actually earn that dollar, Konami?

And to anyone who's thinking: "so what, who cares about a dollar?" Screw you, I'm poor....and I wish I knew Japanese.

On topic: I wish Ghostfire Games all the best with this venture. Hopefully it turns out to be a reasonable success.

I just checked out the Wii Shop Channel and realized that TG-16 games are normally $6, not $8 like I thought. Needless to say, I'm buying this damn game but how dare they charge me 3 extra dollars for a game I won't be able to understand. How dare they.....

It's Castlevania. Here is what you need to know:

1. Move to the right away from the side of the screen that you start on.
2. Whip anything that gets in your way.

@ Santos - TGCD games are usually 800 though, Rondo of Blood was a CD title.

Seriously, though, I think the $1 "import tax" is really weak. Especially considering the game is unmodified from its original version. At least with Sin & Punishment, they translated the UI to English. Not to mention, Konami already has a completed English translation at their disposal.

I'm a Castlevania veteran so I've already got all of that down. I was mainly worried about the menus but they're all in English so the lack of translation isn't bothering me too much.

Oh, I see. Of my 20+ VC games, this is my first TG16/CD game so I'm not familiar with the prices. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, the idea of an import tax for a downloadable game doesn't make sense to me. And it makes even less sense when they've made no changes to accomdate the players who speak a different language. Like I said in my other post, the menus are in English so that's not a problem but I'd like to be able to understand the dialogue without having to check youtube or gamefaqs.

I read the TCD version of Rondo on the PSP one sucks. Plus you'd be playing CastleVania on PSP's d-pad, which also sucks. Thank God Konami finally released the original, unchanged version to the West.

Nothing wrong with the port in DXC, it's perfect AND in English (aside from the German opening, of course).

You're right about the PSP d-pad, though. I may own all of Sony's systems, but that doesn't mean I like their horrid, segmented d-pad design.

Rage of the Gladiator is awesome, I'm really enjoying it so far. The fighting is fun and once you play the game for a while you can get the hang of it.

Hope to get to challenge mode tonight :)
