Elitist? Maybe. But important. Just because you don't think so, doesn't make it true.

Rueben,

The vast majority has always treasured convenience over quality.

Gramophones and and consumer-grade record players sounded awful compared to live performances and top-end, studio gear. The same is true with Cassettes and VHS and everything else. Nothing will beat true Film and nothing will beat uncompressed .WAV audio (or even top-tier analog 4-track reel-to-reel tape). Consumers have always opted for the more affordable, and (most importantly) practical means to enjoy entertainment. Radio sounds like crap yet it has been the primary way people consume audio for decades on the go. This hasn't changed with the MP3s and MPeg4 video or anything else.

It's simply not practical to expect consumers to pay for top-tier equipment for content they can enjoy for a fraction of the cost. Cost and practicality always come first. I'm sure everyone would enjoy to experience media content at its absolute best at all times, but that's never - in history - been practical. Convenience will always win.

@ embassy

how you jumped from me saying that a phone isn't the best medium to enjoy a film to me saying that everyone should own 50 inch plasmas or pro audio is beyond me.

but while you're putting words in my mouth, you got any fries to add to this value meal?

I'm not unreasonable. I understand that our media evolves our time that way, but I find it distressing. You don't need top tier equipment to get more out of your media. You don't need a top record player, hell, a CD player would do just fine! I'll admit that I can be an audiophile, but if this doesn't bother you then I'm not going to argue with you any further. I'm not one of your "elitists" and I'll happily keep quite until the day when CD's become obsolete.

Did you just say Apple will continue to dominate the computer market? You do realize that to continue to do something, you must first be currently doing it, right?

5% market share is hardly "dominating"...

When did Apple 'dominate' the computer market?

BTW, they don't dominate the smartphone market either. They are still behind Nokia and RIM.

You're totally not helping the cause. I'm totally for Apple fans defending (intelligently and articulately!) on Joystiq, but attacking...not so much.

@David

Think that Windows Phone 7 is the first mobile device to support Netflix streaming. I agree the mobile streaming is not the same experience as a pc but it's a step ahead. Here is the demo where Scott Stanfield presents Neflix streaming on their device: http://www.thehdstandard.com/hardwaresoftware-solutions-for-streaming/netflix-on-windows-phone-7/
