As much as I loved the launch release, I won't be picking this up simply because I don't want to support the recent trend of 3D media. If it's anything like the three films I've seen in 3D recently (all of which gave me headaches), the gimmick is not worth it.

I'm buying it because I am very happy about the trend of 3D media. I hope this further supports the PS3's upcoming enhancement in that area.
The problem with Avatar was that it's a lame story. The technology behind the cartoon was very impressive and there's nothing wrong with enjoying that aspect. There will always be a place for 2D content.

It won Goty from Yahtzee and Games Radar. As well as Yahtzee's Golden Dog Biscuit for Genuinely Best Game of 2009. It was nominated by a few others im too lazy to type

I don't want to give a single news source the authority to decide who is the best game. Most game reviews are too closely aligned to advertisements and hype.
Was Grand Theft Auto really a 100% A+ title? Not even close (it's still a great game). Halo 3? Give me a break.
But the hype machine can send people in the wrong direction. Several games each year are good enough to justify a special GOTY release. I hope there's something like the Oscars for gaming, that is completely separated from the advertisers. It doesn't have to be expensive. Best voice actor, best musical score, best costume design, best control scheme innovation, best racer, best RPG, etc etc.

If that's not good enough for you, it was nominated for "Outstanding Achievement in Animation", "Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition", "Adventure Game of the Year", "Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction", and "Overall Game of the Year" and won "Outstanding Character Performance" (for the Joker), "Outstanding Achievement in Game Design", and "Outstanding Achievement in Adapted Story" awards for the 13th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences" so, yeah, it pretty much is the oscars for gaming, and was almost Goty at BAFTA too. You aren't really making sense overall anyway. You said no one game site should decide what's the best, but then you say GTA and Halo 3 weren't Goty material, when just about every game reviewing site said they were, unless you go with that one single site or two that said otherwise, but that would contradict what you said before.

The way I read gimboa's comment was that it didn't matter if Arkham Asylum had actually been proclaimed GOTY yet, that unlike what Joanna D was stating, it deserved a GOTY release regardless of what the gaming press says.

dark wayne, I don't see how you misunderstood my comment that badly. Don't be so defensive. This stuff isn't extremely important. It's more important than movies, and warrants a great awards process similar to the Oscars, but it's not important enough to get twisted up defending your position.
This was a top notch game that deserves recognition in a way most games do not. I do not want to give a single advertiser based authority the power to name only one game GOTY specifically because I want several sources to be able to do that instead. Right now, the only thing really limiting a game from going GOTY is shame, and that seems to be working well enough.

It's those "red & blue" paper glasses which will give you headaches instead of polarized glasses.

It uses TriOviz 3D which works over HD and SD. So it looks like it'll work!
