Steam is having a "midweek madness" sale on Dragon Age: Origins until Thursday at 4PM PST. BioWare's fantasy epic is discounted 33 percent, making the regular and "digital deluxe" editions $33.49 and $43.54, respectively.
Of course, the discounts are to get you on the hook to purchase the game's first expansion, Awakening, which releases today. But, just so you go into this with eyes wide open, DA:O is a long game -- especially if you get the bundle stuffed with the extra DLC missions. The game is so long, in fact, that if you purchase the base game now, by the time you're ready for Awakening, you may very well be able to get that at a discount, instead of its initial $40 price.

Dragon Age trying to compete with FFXIII?
The same way a professional boxer may try to "compete" with a computer nerd in a steel cage match, maybe.

I should just move back to PC gaming all together. Steam is always having amazing deals!

Last summer, I built a gaming rig, and in less than a year, I have bought so many Steam games. I'd say it's worth it personally. The only thing I'm playing on my PS3 anymore are titles like Heavy Rain, FFXIII, God of War III, anything that won't come to PC that I'm interested in basically.

That's why there's an "Action RPG" genre.

Actually, Dragon Age contains more of these "Role playing" experiences than your precious FF13 does.

BioWare I'm sure was feeling the pressure to lower the price. FFXIII has revolutionized the RPG genre with it's linear corridor crawls, one button combat, and "25 hours till you get to the fun" gameplay. Dragon Age is so antiquated it actually has towns. Personally, I'm just going to hold out a few more months because I'm sure EA is going to cut off BioWare like a septic limb, then I'll be able to get DA:O for like a dollar.

That had been a sarcastic reply to a post that's now apparently been deleted.

I think it'd be more akin to a professional boxer trying to compete with an olympic swimmer. Kind of a pointless comparison since they belong to different genres.

I am so cheap I think I will hold off on this for now and get the GOTY edition that will include Awakening at Christmas (I hope). I love Steam sales but hate contributing to the destruction of cloth maps and instruction booklets unless the prices are too good to pass up (50% off minimum for me).

The DLC isn't really worth it. It just gives you unbalanced over powered items early in the game & a character that I used throughout most of the game but would still argue "she" wasn't really worth it. I actually think it's unfair that you have to buy DLC for a storage bank but to be honest you're better off just selling junk.

And this version comes with the extra character anyways, so yeah the deluxe is pointless.

I assume you're talking about Shale? Every new copy of the game comes with a download code for Shale. It's their way of discouraging buying the game used.

Is there any advantage to buying the Digital Deluxe Edition? Like, can I get those unique items as DLC later on?

No, you can't buy those items a la carte. You either buy the deluxe edition and get those items or you don't.
It's worth noting though that both the Return to Ostagar and Warden's Keep DLC has good armor you'll pick up. I got a lot more use out of the Warden's armor set than I did out of the Blood Dragon armor set in my playthrough.

You should get a download code through EA's Dragon Age site that you can redeem on XBox Live.

I beat it in about 30 hours, not sure because I left it paused a lot while I played left 4 dead 2 so it says 55. I was level 20 at the end so I did do a decent number of side quests.
