Never heard of this before, but it sounds awesome.
I hope they can work out the kinks and make it responsive and get rid of the fractional delays.

Either way though, "a hovering, auto-stabilizing spy drone you pilot with your telephone"?
Epic.

It looks and sounds really impressive. It's making me wish I owned an iPhone at least.

Was the drone really noisy? That second video makes it sound pretty loud, which would be a big drawback if trying to use it as a "spy drone".

Kinda makes me wonder though. What would've happened if we had this back in the 70s? I can just imagine this being used in Animal House.

Boy, I sure hope we can use this technology with humans someday. Controlling Jesus in a fight with Obama would make my day.

Absolute bullshit.

Yes, it has autostabilization, and a camera, and uses WiFi, but it's made out of foam and plastic. No way it's worth $500. And it lasts for 15 minutes on a 1- hour charge. You can get batteries that charge in 10 minutes. This probably uses a typical battery pack, so not being able to charge in 10 minutes is ridiculous.

It's like all these companies putting out a gizmo that costs $200, $300 and only do one thing.

First, that's awesome. Second, $500, well, you know what, it's awesome enough. Third, it requires an iphone, so meh. I actually own an iphone and I am not thrilled at having a $500 piece of technology reliant on the $200-300 phone that is just waiting to get broken sitting in my pocket. Besides, why would you not just sell the whole package? I mean, why not make it $600/$700 and give us a real control. Heck, give an ipod touch with it at that price. I don't really want to buy half a product. Hmm. I'll have to think on this...

It's nice, but I figure $100-200 for an iPhone, $1,200+ a year for the contract, and then $500 for this thing?

It really does look awesome, but the price for it plus an iPhone contract is just too much.

Wow, I'd thought I'd heard $100 somewhere before and felt the inevitable tug of a impulse buy, but it doesn't have a chance at $500.

I think this will turn out to be crap. Sorry, but after messing with the Mikrokopter, Arduino, UAVX, Draganflyer, and other multi-rotor craft for only a year I believe there is no way anyone can deliver "gamer worthy" flight dynamics using current technology for under $2000. It may fly. It may have decent video. And it may react to targets. But for the prices they mention there is no way it will do them all well.

I am happy to be wrong. If I am then I would consider selling off all my expensive and highly technical hardware for this cheaper and simpler solution. But because stuff like that never happens I have a feeling the Parrot IS too good to be true. If it is true, it will be too expensive to survive in the mass market and it will live as a thread on RCGroups forum, started by the niche enthusiasts. Which is probably where it belongs.

Really...they lost my faith when they said you could use it for VR gaming. Foam frame or not...the first time it crashes out of view and those blades come down onto an animal, a person, or a valued possession, there will be a stink. Saying it can be used for gaming, IMHO, disrespects the safety factor required for any rotor- or prop-driven aircraft and decreases the credibility of the product.

Like I said, I hope I'm wrong.

Don´t worry. Android smartphones ( and others ) will have the application to fly the drone pretty soon, IF that thing will sell ´cheap enough´.
