Son of a... you're going to make me buy this, Justin.

Alright. I'm listening to your words of wisdom and I'm picking this one up on the weekend. You've convinced me. Well played. I'll see you in hell.

Also, there better be a sweet rap at the end of this one though. Ill Mitch, perhaps?

Just like Ludwig made me buy Far Cry 2, another immersive yet flawed shooter, Justin has convinced me to get Metro 33.

I had no idea. No idea. This sounds like a really good experience - the idea of pumping for power and watching time for filters sounds....immersive in a very good way. Seems to be a realistic portrayel of what's to come in RL down the road, after the easter peep apocolypse in 2012.

One can forgive weak sounding guns, given the time to do so. Lacking AI is nothing new.

I'm very surprised with this title. Initially it was a bit blurry and generic when we were first hearing about it along with titles like Wolfenstein/Singularity with the whole look/theme etc. I'm glad they delayed it because I think damn near everyone would have hoverlooked it. Hopefully my copy of FF returns to gamefly soon so I can get Metro 2033. Still gotta finish Heavy Rain and God of War III. As everyone else has stated this has a Stalker look/vibe, which is certainly a great thing. Looking forward to this now.

These immersion tricks sound a lot like Far Cry 2...which i also loved and felt the need to defend to people. Still haven't finished it though. Well it's officially on my list now...but I'll make a promise to myself to get it after I finish Far Cry 2 (after I finish the other games I need to finish...sheesh).

I had my $50 in hand ready to pick this up until Justin started talking about the issues with the AI and poor shooting ... those two things drive me nuts about some games.

I'll wait until I can pick up it for the cheap at GameStop in a few months.

I stopped playing Far Cry 3 because playing imaginary games isn't as fun as playing actual ones.

The full emersion is what I'm in it for. Just like Far Cry 3. I def got frustrated when I'd pump a full AK clip into a barechested African and he'd still be breathing. That country has citizens with armor plated skin, I swear.
But I'd be right back to loving it everytime I pulled a bullet out of my arm to avoid death or had to pop a malaria pill to fight a flare up or even pulled out the magic map and gps.

I stopped from playing Far Cry 3 because of that, you could literally unload a full clip on an enemy and he would still be alive.

Yeah.. Super strong enemies plus how they respawned. Everytime you passed one of their camps it was like a 30 minute fire fight. It was cool as first but after 5 hrs of getting distracted and making zero progression, I started to just drive straight thru the camps without stopping. Which was even worse sometimes cause they'd chase you and I'd have to pull over and kill one dude in a beat up jeep. But like, every 20 minutes...

Besides that stuff tho, the game was amazing!

Sounds like something that'll drop in price on Steam pretty quick.

I'll wait for $10 or so.

Also the plot reminds me of the book 'Boneshaker' by Cherie Priest.

Gas mask filters, being driven underground, mutants/zombies...

It's a good read!

I'd imagine 4A will patch the weapons based on feedback so they do more damage, if they put their heart and soul into this game then they will listen to what the fans have to say.

This is why I love reading ur reviews. I go to sites like ign, gamespot for in depth, surgical reviews. I come here to get a human's perspective on the game. Kudos Justin, for writing one of the most honest and interesting videogame reviews I have ever read

I've really been waiting for this game. And this review seems to match what I was hoping for. The A.I. being off will be annoying but I can deal with it. And I'll wait to see if the weapons are really off. Since real weapons aren't perfect like they are in most FPS games. So I'm more than willing to give this a chance. Just wish I had 60 to go blow on this game :(

I really want to get this game, I'm fine with the shooting and AI problems, it's the 'ten or so hours' that's made me hold off. I don't have $80 to spend on a ten hour game.

What I don't fully understand..

The developers or testers play this game during the development process, yes? And I assume a QA team plays it at least once upon completion.

Has no on ever said "Hey it takes over a full clip or ammo to kill this baddie! That doesn't seem right."
and I say the same thing for Far Cry 2. Why would any developer assume that's acceptable? The AI thing doesn't bother me as much. But to have such a "realistic" and immersive world, only to be yanked out of it by bad damage or hit detection... Just doesn't make sense to me. That's be top of the list of problems/gameplay elements to adjust.

Looking forward to this one though. I can't imagine living in the Ukraine right now AND be able to put out a game of this calibre. This Dev has earned it imo.

The weakness to the guns is intentional in the game world... The ammunition you use is meant to be crappy and under-powered. The only good ammunition in the game is much more powerful, but also used as your currency, so you really need to choose whether you'd like guns with oomph, or fancier (upgraded) guns with weaker bullets...

So far I'm about half-way in and all I can think of is a more desolate and serious Half-Life 2. The art direction is phenomenal. Sure, AI could use some tweaking, but that's an issue with every game anymore...

Hmm, I think that Ill bite, even when unbalanced gameplay and dumb AI are the things I hate the most in a game. But also I cant resist to a post-apocalyptic setting.
