A few things in this life are certain: Oprah will have a new book for you to read every month and you can bet there's a new Gears of War in the works. Edge says a source has put a pin in April 2011 as the release window for the third entry in Epic's series -- and we should expect the first teaser trailer next month, on April 8, with a full-on reveal at E3 in June.
"Microsoft's keen to avoid a clash with Halo: Reach and wants Natal to own Christmas," alleges Edge's source. "That's why we won't be seeing Gears Of War 3 until next year, but expect a major marketing push ahead of its release."
Recently, Epic prez Mike Capps hinted at a major game announcement to be made by the studio during E3. Additionally, EA has teased a "Shooter from Epic" due just before April in Q1 2011.

I completely agree. I stopped playing Gears 2 just weeks after I purchased it because of all the problems of the online multiplayer. Besides that the story of the single player campaign was trash! In order for me to play the single player there needs to be some compelling story for me to care. (snooze of war?)

Empty promises as far as I'm concerned.
I won't be buying Gears 3 at launch because of how poorly they handled Gears 2 online.

Why Nice? Its not Gears 3. Microsoft will never ever let EA take over the Gears series. Read the last sentence.

Other than that I'm pumped for a new gears I'm still enjoying the second one even with bfbc2 out. Hopefully the matchmaking wont be as bad as the second one...

Apparently some testing was there at GDC so i've spent the past day and today looking for Info on GoW3. Now that I have it, I thought it was this year...*sigh* I'll wait. :( :D

I doubt that Epic would 'tease' Gears 3. When they feel like announcing it, it will be Gears 2-esque: extravagant and over-the-top.
If anything, it will be the People Can Fly thing. I think that Gears will be still be a holiday release.

A holiday release would be a horrible strategy on Microsoft's part. Halo: Reach will probably release somewhere around August or September and following up with Gears 3 a few months later would probably drive many people to chose between Reach or Gears.
I, for one, would not hesitate with the decision: Reach will most assuredly have a better multiplayer.

I expected it this year, but next spring makes sense. Either way, I'm psyched for some couch co-op chainsawdomy.

I totally agree for as far as the single player goes. Gears 1 was like a summer blockbuster, where the focus was the iconic set-pieces and the generic story was the glue that tied them together. But in 2 they thought they were going to tell a good story or some other nonsense that's irrelevant to a game being fun, and it just got in the way of the iconic set-pieces. Gears 2 had some cool stuff, but it's bad story is far more memorable than it's cool action.

We still make it a point to play Gears Classic (Gears 1) at least once a week. There is no better time in gaming than short-busing it (getting into an 8-player party chat so you can hear enemies and friends) in a full room of Gears with buddies and beers. You can barely get in a word through all the laughter and cursing.

I absolutely love these games. I have no doubt that Gears 3 will be filled with even more over the top action and scenarios. Definitely looking forward to the teaser if they keep up with the bar they set on the previous 2.

My thoughts exactly. Personally, I'm more a gears than halo fan, but halo had last year and gears is so dark and fall-esq, it may ruin the mood to be released in the sunny springtime.
It's a big season... they could release reach in late august, gears in late october, and have two months to push natal for xmas!

it's not like Microsoft just let Bungie have last year. Gears 3 was obviously no where ready by then, and neither was reach. The fact is, they are two huge franchises guaranteed to sell a shitload, and they want all the money they can get. We don't even know if Gears 3 will be ready for release in fall, but Reach had the fall date since E3 last year.

Because MS only was to publish the first 2, hopefully this means that at some point it will be brought over to the PS3. To this day I still play Gears 1&2, and 3 going multiplatform means more especially worldwide can enjoy this series.

Well for me I'm just meh, I'll most likely get it. I bought the first two and I have a sort of OCD completionist fetish thing going on but I didn't even finish the second one. I just didn't find it compelling, I don't really blame the developers or the game; it was an exceptionally competent game that made good use of the technology they developed it's just over saturation. In a market with much more interesting motifs and genre pieces that use the exact same technology I'm presented with options I find much more appealing.
I'm not a Cliff-hater, he's kind of over the top and the kind of person I know in real life I would either love or hate. No middle ground; but since I don't know him I don't judge him. I just look at his work, and for me to get excited about this (in a post Mass Effect 2 world) they are going to have to pull out some crazy stops and one of those is creating an interesting and well written story (something they TRIED with GoW2 but failed... miserably.)

I read the Gears-has-a-shitty-story complaint often, but I don't think it's entirely accurate. I think that the Gears universe has a solid and very understated story line that most people are simply unwilling to invest the time thinking about. Many times the Gears games raise more questions than they answer, but that's probably the kind of thing that the third game will tie up. For example, are the humans of Sera native to the planet or are they settlers from Earth? Did the humans bioengineer the Locusts, or are the Locusts the original and rightful inhabitants of Sera?
I think there's a lot there that isn't spoon-fed to us and I'm okay with that.

@WReturns With A Vengeance: I understand where you are coming from, you see, my problem isn't the general premise (though it's a little hackneyed but so is Mass Effect's save the universe.) Nor is it the setting (I find the planet and the ambiguity very interesting.) The question of natives to Sera one that's very intriguing that could be served well by exploring those.
The problem is the characterization. They are simply not compelling, Markus is this stoic wall of bluster and Dom is not much better fluctuating between this whiney "oh no my wife is missing" and "I'm gonna get 'em". And this is where the game falls apart. I simply have no love for these characters. I don't expect every character to be a "warrior poet" but I expect a little more to them then the simple card board cut outs that I'm presented with. Yes I don't want to be spoon fed everything but I want depth. Like I said it's not a bad game, I'll probably pick up a copy, it's just sort of hit and miss and they really need to add more depth to it to compete in a modern shooter world. Especially when you have games using the exact same technology that are able to create stories that are infinitely more nuianced and intricate.
