The latest issue of Japanese mag Famitsu reveals Square Enix's Chaos Rings, which is apparently a new Japanese RPG for the iPhone and iPod Touch. 1UP's translation indicates that Chaos Rings features art by Final Fantasy vet Yusuke Naora, and that the plot follows five teams of two, each of whom have their own storylines. Destiny and eternal life plot lines ensue.
The battle system is apparently built around solo and pair moves by the characters, the latter dealing greater damage and unlocking more combo skills. We're currently following up with Square Enix in North America and will update if it has any further information.

I just started FF XIII, but if I find some sort of Edward character in it who may or may not be spoony...I'm going to be most disappointed.

Referring to Japanese rpgs as JRPGs is quite racist. I'm surprised anyone affiliated with AOL Time Warner would do so. They are just RPGs. There is no need to create a sub category as if they are some lesser form of 'normal' rpgs.

You are the first and only person I've ever seen make this argument. They're RPG's, they're made in Japan. Hence JRPG. It's hard to deny the stylistic differences between RPGs made there and those designed elsewhere. There's nothing racist about that at all.

I think you maybe on to something here. I'll have to think about it as I drive to the Japanese restaurant after work tonight in my Japanese car.
In fact, I may not be able sleep tonight after watching some Japanese horror flick, so I'll ponder it as I stay up playing a JRPG, er RPG.
