Back in 2009, we spotted a couple of GameStop surveys asking customers about the Edge card and a possible new rewards program. According to Gamervision's sources, the new rewards program will go into effect "by the end of this year." As detailed in the aforementioned surveys (and corroborated by GV's sources), the rewards program is said to feature two tiers, "one for everyone, and one that can only be earned by frequent use of the basic card."
We contacted GameStop corporate for comment and were told, "We are in the process of evaluating loyalty opportunities for our customers. As this is a work in progress, we are not going to comment on speculation to changes to our Edge card program." While certainly not confirmation of any changes taking place by the end of this year, it does affirm that the company is still considering altering the Edge card at some point in the future. For now, though, a new "rewards program" seems to be little more than a germinating idea.
[Thanks, Mike]

How does this sound:

He is talking about the Gamerzone Club. You spend 150 bucks on game related items (games, accessories, etc... not consoles) and you get a 10 dollar certificate. This is in ADDITION to the 250 dollars you spend to get the 5 dollar certificate.
Plus, for a few games lately (FFXIII, GOWIII) you get an additional 500 points (10 dollar certificate) for just buying the game during the release week.
Essentially, for getting one game, you could earn (depending where you're at on the meter) up to 25 dollars for a $60.00 purchase.

Best Buy also has the Silver club, for those that spend $2500 a year at the store. And there is also a Black Reward Zone club, but those qualifications are not set to a dollar amount. Probably also depends on WHAT you buy in addition to the amount.

While Gamestop contemplates on their rewards program I'll be enjoying my savings from the Best Buy Rewards Zone and Amazon's lower prices.

I'm lucky enough to have a GS in my area that doesn't employ douchebags. I give them the business cause they treat me like a human being.
And now let the replys fly on in!

I'd be MUCH more likely to be "loyal" if they would stop lying. I wanted to buy a used 360 from GameStop, but it turns out you can't get a straight answer from the dicks. there is a good video of them lying about testing consoles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_T4lwxSLR7I

Im pretty sure you go to the wrong store.....honestly a GameStop with good employees who are respectable and know what the hell they are talking about will give you a good shopping experience....its the poorly managed and uninformed ones that seems like EVERYONE goes to, then typecasts that the company as a whole is bad.

That is your "proof"? really?.......really?...
lol that's pretty great man. I can call a whole bunch of places and hand select a few poor responses from some misinformed employees with no basis for the reason behind their answer. Also, you'll find out that most of these have less to do with "avoiding" the answer, and more to do with getting stupid people off the phone line - happens all the time. Trust me, if you worked any kind of retail, you'd understand. Yes, there are about 10 different ways you can tell a console is modded, and no I wouldn't go explain it all to someone over the phone when most of the time I'm slammed with a couple other million things to do in store. Gamestop isn't a tech support line: google it...
Plus, this guy acts like an idiot an expects honest answers from the employees? Yet, many of them were still very patient and helpful through the obvious stupidity.
Should you expect some misinformation from time to time from ANY retailer? yes, that is why you do your research before hand instead of expecting everything from the employee.
Finally, what in the world is stopping you or anyone else from looking for yourself? Why can't you take a look at the console in the store before you buy it to make sure? Instead of going off on a nerdy rampage over the Internet, be a respectable customer for once! People always complain about the retailers outside the store, and don't realize the retailers complain about THEM inside the store. kinda ironic, huh? Don't be that customer everyone hates, because whether or not you shop there becomes irrelevant, they don't want you to shop there anyway. You aren't going to stop them from doing a couple billion in sales next quarter, so why rage?

As Boofed said, this is being tested in different markets at the moment. I know of St. Louis, as well as Oklahoma City starting in early May. All existing Edge Card customers get immediate benefits - On top of the normal discounts, customers receive points (similar to Best Buy) for ALL purchases, and these points can be redeemed on an online store for items such as gift card to different restaurants, etc. game accessories, and other higher end items like plane tickets or a 6 foot master chief statue, ride with Nascar driver Joey Legano, etc.
Basically, you get a little better than what US Best Buy stores offer, plus additional discounts, plus the magazine.

Last summer/fall I finally decided to swear off Gamestop completely and stick with a combination of Amazon, Goozex and eBay, with the occasional Best Buy purchase when they've had a couple of good new release deals. In that time, I've bought more games, but spent less money. Seriously folks, explore your options and you'll find life is better and cheaper.

Gamefly...is way better anyways. Do the math.
22.92 x 12=275.40
275.40/64.19= 4.3 games
Anybody that buys over %games is saving money. Most ppl that buy nonmultiplayer games most likelly buy them beat them and shelf them so save money and play as many as you want.

If Gamefly shipped as fast as Netflix, I'd use it all the time. I canceled my subscription because it would take them 4 days just to send me another game on my queue (I had like 50 on there, most in the 'high probability' tier) and then it takes another 3 days for the game to arrive after shipping it. It doesn't take that long to ship something from Huntsville, AL to Tampa, FL for me...it really shouldn't for them...

My college buddy has been keeping me updated with this loyalty program for the last 8 months it seems (he works for Gamestop Corporate helping make those ridiculous training videos, haha).
It is nice that Gamestop is employing this program, but I'll still shop at Best Buy. Why? At the moment their 'deals' are better, especially when you have the Gamerzone Club activated...
But, I also get Rewards Points for buying ANYTHING besides games at Best Buy and I can use those points to purchase ANYTHING at Best Buy. Granted, Gamestop doesn't sell cameras, Blurays (anymore at least except at Moviestop but their deals aren't that good either), etc...
I also get to accumulate points buy shopping through their online mall and eating at numerous restaurants in town.
Plus, I'm a "Premier" member so I get %25 percent more bonus points for each purchase...
They'll add up a lot quicker at Best Buy than they more than likely would at Gamestop.
But, I hope this Loyalty Program will make the Gamerzone Membership more competitive :)

One of the guys at my local GameStop indicated that stores would begin testing it sometime in May, but he could have been talking about stores in the Columbus, Ohio area. Brought it up because I was traded in a bunch of stuff due to their 50% bonus on trade deal, and since I'd been in there so much over the last several months (my local mom and pop store also became an AT&T wireless reseller, thus I don't care to go there anymore because it's just not the same), and I didn't have an EDGE membership. Memberships were 50% off at the time, so I joined up. He's indicating it'll likely be similar to Best Buy's program, but with the possibility of other things thrown in.
Thing is, Best Buy's Reward Zone program is pretty sweet. 1 point for every dollar spent, I have my debit card linked so when I eat at certain restaurants I earn more points (one place gives me 3 points for every dollar spent), and I have the Gamerzone setup on my account to take advantage of that as well.
Recently earned a $20 and $5 certificate from Reward Zone (payouts due to points resetting for the year I guess), so coupled with $8.16 left over on a Christmas gift card, and some eBay winnings in PayPal, I picked up Pokemon SoulSilver for basically no money out of my pocket.

I have seen every detail of the program, and I will tell you it is awesome. It took way too long for us to catch up to the other premium loyalty programs, but better late then never. I will not go into specifics here, but it is significantly better then anything out there in the industry. Rolls out in some test markets, and I think customers will be very excited--and gamers will be very appreciative.
True loyalty program. Finally. I am excited as a gamer who also happens to be an employee as well!

The GS employees at the newly titled Gamestop (used to be EB of course) near me are the most douchiest personality-less slowtards I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. They make the human-pincussions over at HMV look positively personable. The worst ones are the females too. There's some nerd chick there dripping with nerditude that makes me want to punch her square in the face. Then there's some power-lesbo manager at another GS that talks too loud and knows F all about anything, but attempts to sound like she's on top of everything - but she knows she's an imposter and figures talking louder makes her appear more knowledgeable. Then there's the fat sloppy couch-sloths who only know World at Warcraft and if you purchase or ask about anything that isn't an MMO they muster up all of their strength to sneer in your general direction. I cannot stand that place and would rather ask the crypt-keeper at Wal-Mart to shuffle on over and open the videogame sarcophagus then deal with GS.
You're selling that used game for $5 off new MSRP, that I just saw you give a kid $15 bucks for? I don't think so nerd-chick. WHAMMO!
