Not only does PlayStation Move enable realistic motion controls for PS3 games -- it also allows for corporate dispatches from the future. We didn't hear about that at any press conference! But there's Kevin Butler, addressing us from November 2010 about advances in nutrition and the success of the PlayStation Move. That means, according to Sony's time travel technology, the Move should be out sometime in November at the latest.
This commercial features plenty of footage of some guy completely battering air in Motion Fighter, along with some not-so-subtle callouts of the motion-based competition, and even a little bit of reverent Tretton worship. Check the ad out after the break.
Even if they did want to fire him, just think of the paperwork hell involved with that. He's the VP of divisions that may not even have presidents. Regardless, it would involve major internal restructuring that no one's ready to go through.
In all seriousness, though, I'm sure everyone at SCEA marketing is thinking, "Wow, why didn't we think of this sooner?" They've gone on record many times saying that it's been successful, and the ads will stay on TV at least throughout 2010.
You never know. Some idiot bight decide it's not headed in the right direction.
All those stupid David Lynch style commercials. Just lazy and lame. Tell the people why they should buy your product, and keep it light and positive and fun. It's not complicated, but Sony has dropped the ball on this many times. A wonderful game console really had a hard time being understood by the public. When you're selling something that has so many facets and functions, you can't be vague about your commercials.
Thank goodness someone realized they needed this kind of advertisement. This is the best Playstation Advertisement yet, though it's clearly for the internet only.
Someone might of said this but they screwed up. in the previews from GDC they said the sub controller didnt have motion in it. but in the video they showed the guy throwing a grenade in socom 4 with the sub controller. so motion will be in sub controller or the video screwed up
Or they were moving the controller when he hit the buttons just like they have people shake the controller or move their body in other ads since it's hard to show a button press on TV
Or you know they screwed up in moving for the Ad for Move. One of the two.
Given some of the Valve style nastiness, I think this was totally mild and light hearted and funny.
And it's a good point. Motion is good, but on its own, it's damn annoying. Sony knows that, with their Eyetoy games. You need buttons, and not on the dualshock, but on the motion controllers. I wouldn't be surprised if MS realizes this in time, though. It wouldn't be hard to come out with a solution.
It only took 3 years, but PS3 ads are finally entertaining. Everyone else has had there hits and misses too, but it took Sony a while to get to the hits. The Uncharted 2 one in particular is great.
It is somewhat refreshing to see an ad campaign in which Sony has finally combined their legendary arrogance with something approaching a sense of humor.
Lighten up, Francis. Sony takes pride in their products. So what? Nintendo and MS don't also "show arrogance"? These companies have all accomplished brilliant things and think a lot of their ambitions for the future. That's why they aren't lame.
1. "Because real boxers don't hit like this [flails arms exasperatingly]" Yeah, because real boxers use dildos instead, that light up with pastel colors.
2. "It's also got what we in the future call buttons, which turn out to be pretty important to those handful of millions of people who enjoy playing shooters, platformers, well, anything that doesn't involve catching a big red ball." Yup, and it's called the Nintendo Wii.
3. "C'mon, who wants to pretend their hand is a gun. What is this, third grade? Pew, pew, pew." Yeah, because I'm sure people like playing shooters using a dildo that lights up with pastel colors as their gun. Sony is right, it's not 3rd grade, it's softcore porn. :D
Sony, great funny ad, but it can be used against you too.
I love it! Awesome ad! But I thought the same thing back when the Wii did their first ad. All these dreams and ideas I had of really being in the game! Rather than cutting out the beer and nachos from bowling night (which is the main reason people still go bowling right?). I hope that Sony can do motion controllers (or rather motion games) better than Nintendo was. Bashing on Natal was a tad low (Since neither of the add-ons are out yet) but it was still very funny. I don't care what fanboy you are, all 3 systems getting motion controllers is good news for us all. We should see better made games using this tech rather than the mass of shovelware that has plagued the Wii as of yet.
You're right... Sony will have to back this up with a great product. They really have no choice. This is a big part of the PS3 staying viable for a few years longer than the competition, too.
I don't see how this is a low blow against MS... it's funny and a legit point, and let's face it, a lot of the back and forth has been far lower (on all sides).
I really love these commercials. I think Sony finally found the right way to advertise. Having said that, isn't it a little arrogant and snarky to start crowing about Wii HD......err I mean PS3 Move.
ok i dont know alot about the whole "MOVE" thing, so ill proberly sound a noob, buuuuuut do you have to buy MOVE and EYE TOY seperately????? if you look at the text when he talks about the "buttons" it says "eye toy sold seperately" thats gonna be exensive!!!
I'm saying it's a low blow because (at least as far as I've seen) Sony hasn't shown off many videos of their product being used. I don't know if that commercial works since I'm not sure it's real footage being used. If it is it's pretty damn impressed. Where as Natal has been shown on TV (even if it was fairly lack luster by my standards).
Hasn't shown off many videos? They did like a 15 minute presentation at E3, TGS, and GDC. The only thing we've seen of Natal is a glitchy prototype with lots of arm flailing...
Not much respect for them knocking on either of them. As far as real consumer-based proof is concerned, Move is down at the same level as Natal: no real consumers have tried it yet, and you can't knock Wii in the same light, since they're 69-million user-approved
And so it starts, I think there just trying to get people fired up in the console war, so PS3 fans rush out and buy this without thinking it through.
I have a wii and I can tell you most of the motion games are pretty fun, but only for a short period. You will be surprised how fast your arms will get tired swinging them like that kid in the Video playing the boxing game.
I'm very rarely surprised by anything anymore, but when he made the "big red ball" reference, I just about died of laughter. (And, for the record, I actually have all three consoles, and plan to have both Move and Natal at some point anyway.)
This feels like a call back to the days when SEGA threw down stuff like "Sega does what Nintendon't".
I can't wait to see the MS response... there IS going to be an MS response, right?
Most likely they are going to be disappointed that Sony had to stoop so low to something like that. All the companies will spit on each other and kick each other and then feel really sad that the rest of them have no other way to get their point across than to make fun of the others. Having said that Jack Tretton has been pretty on point of always talking up Sony's side and congratulating others on their success in gaming. I guess they can just use Kevin as the snide guy. Though I dont think this ad will ever get on TV
You have to hand it to them Playstation commercials are really funny and we can all appreciate funny. I love my PS3 way more than my XBox 360, and while I don't really like any form of mote controls or even moteless activity that require my body to exert effort, technically Project Natal looks way better. I mean it's basically military grade LADAR systems. Still while Project Natal is leaps and bounds technologically better get ready for the typical lame Microsoft advertising to promote it, which will likely use music from a Sony franchise game once again. haha Check out our reviews for both at baduku.
Did anybody else catch the guy using the subcontroller in the FPS to throw a grenade (video time: 1:02)? So could there be accelerometers in the subcontroller? If they already confirmed this I apologize, soon as I saw this I just started asking questions.
