For some reason, I can't log in to vote for ideas and share my own. Maybe it's because I have a UK PSN account?

Either way, it's an awesome idea.

This IS a good idea.. now that they've implemented a section to request what we want, everything will probably be part of some premium package we have to pay for.. sad but probably true.

@CzAr

It is not listed as a Premium feature. There is no list for any additional content for a paid service yet. It was only listed on a survey, among other items.

But I know there are plenty of people (a.k.a. fools) that would pay if that was put under premium content.

Time will tell.

It's a place to post suggestions not requests. And frankly most people just log in and hit the "agree with cross chat" button and walk away. no one pays much attention to anything but the first five suggestions they see and the rest get mostly ignored so even if you posted the most intelligent and crucial suggestions on this thing it would get maybe 100 votes and a third of them would be down votes just because it's not a suggestion for crosschat.

Cross Game Voice Chat is up to +2228 now. Maybe Sony will finally notice the features that we want and actually add them.

it'll probably be part of the PSN tiered service (e.g. will require a fee). At least if rumors are true.

That's what i'm hoping. I know I I wouldn't use it, so I wouldn't pay for it, but it would be nice if it were free for everyone who would use it. I think Sony should reconsider keeping PSN free as a counter to Xboxes superior but costly service.

As if Sony hasn't already heard what features users wanted and added them.

The PS3 has improved quite a bit over the years by adding stuff people are asking for. These same commenters keep saying every weekly update is terrible because it didn't have game X, and when that game comes out they don't have any appreciation... that sucks too because it didn't have game Y and Z.

In game XMB came and these people who screamed for it now act as thought 'maybe Sony will finally listen to us and add this other essential (and silly) feature'

Hey, it's cool if the PS3 gets that, but I know it won't change their attitude. All of these people have YLOD every single week. Must be on their 93rd PS3 by now.

Again, it's only a suggestion forum. It doesnt mean that they're going to implement cross chat and even if they do it may only be a premium option if it's even possible to do on PSN. They're not going to just give that away for free and they also probably fear it being something that imbalances games if you could talk to someone at any time.

What freaking idiot would down-vote the idea of cross-game voice chat? Seriously!? This is only the feature that almost EVERY SINGLE PS3 user has ever requested(Aside from In-Game XMB), and now people are like "Well since we have the option to vote on it, I'll vote against it."

Sometimes people are just too stupid for words. Someone said "why not use a phone, or skype... problem solved" Yeah, I'm going to call my friend in Canada, hold the phone up to my ear while we're both trying to play video games and run up my phone bill by hundreds of dollars by calling cross-country, that is way better than putting a headset on my head and tapping X a few times.

They aren't "too stupid". They disagree with you. Perhaps they are sick and tired of people whining about cross game chat in every forum on that blog. Many cross game chat proponents are extremely rude and unappreciative, and it's obvious they will simply move on to some other issue that their ps3 must have.

There's a really strange set of people who, every week, just had a YLOD, are angry some game didn't come out (when it does, they do not thank, but rather demand a different game), and are mad that there isn't in-game XMB or cross chat. Fact is, the PS3 has gotten much better as time has gone along, and a lot of people got more than they bargained for and should be a lot happier than that. It feels like FUD or trolling or just plain lame people.

I don't really want them to get cross chat for one basic reason: rewarding that kind of behavior guarantees it will continue forever. These people will move on to something else. "Add 6 player Move support NOW!!!!" or something.

One good solution for all sides is to demand payment for cross game chat. That way,the people freaking out about it, who claim it's worth a lot, will have to admit it wasn't worth anything to them and they demand it for free.

Another reason to vote it down is that it represent resources, money and otherwise, that go away from the rest of the PS3 community that doesn't care about this (because they have cell phones or rely on normal communication in game). The PS3 OS is getting smaller, freeing up RAM for gameplay. Why reserve that for cross game chat? I'd rather have the RAM for games. I didn't buy this system for ventrilo style losers.

That you characterize those who disagree with you as "stupid beyond belief" because "every" gamer wants it, you're being a jerk. Just because someone screams the most, doesn't mean they become everyone. Most people on the PS Blog want to discuss the topic of each particular post.

That is stupid. About 5% of people who want cross-game chat were the ones who spammed forums asking for it, posted needless topics wondering where it is and just being stupid about it, so you don't want the other 95% to get it just because of that the 5% did?

That sounds stupid beyond belief to me.

If someone doesn't want resources devoted to a service, because they prefer a different addition, then it makes sense to downvote cross chat. If they want to show opposition to the cross chat hysteria that has made the PS blog unpleasant, then it makes sense to downvote (albeit, this somehow is bad for those who want cross game chat and didn't spam the boards).

But hopefully Sony just charges additional money for cross chat. Seems fair to me.

To be honest, it's not something I would say "every single" PS3 user wants. I'll give you 80-90%. But not 100%.

Some of us just don't really care, and would prefer they focus on other things. I didn't downvote it or anything, but I most certainly am not going to vote for it. Hell, I don't even use the voice chat in the games that support it, and I own the bluetooth headset and everything.

yeah I don't get it. I talk to lots of friends on MW2 and BC2 but why in the hell would I want to talk to someone who is preoccupied with an entirely different game while I am preoccupied with a different game.

the conversation would be:

"OMG, I'm totally kicking the snot out of posieden OOOHHHHHH, OH MY GOD you should see this!"

"OMG who's at bravo? WHO's at BRAVO?, why is nobody on my team working with me. KILLED BY A NOOB TUBE AGAIN?!"

The fact of the matter is that they made all these big promises when they launched the ps3 and haven't lived up to any but the very basic ones and even most of those functions (like the web browser) are rarely updated and don't work well at all. And then there are other functions they added (like trophies) which ruined basic functions (like backing up gamesaves).

This looks like a fun distraction for people like me who bought a big black box full of potential and are now realizing that all that potential will be wasted. I don't really think they're going to implement any of these suggestions like cross game chat and custom soundtracks that people have been asking for since launch.

Way to be optimistic dude. The truth is Sony has taken the PS3 a LONG way via firmware updates. Sure we don't EVERYTHING we want but with the sense of entitlement gamers have these days people will never be happy. If you had a PS3 in 2006/2007 the firmware has added TONS of new features. Do I use them all...of course not but I'm sure there are people that love the things I never use.

Chill out, enjoy the awesome games that are coming out and anything that's added to your FREE PSN service or added via firmware for FREE take it as a bonus. And for the record, YES..I want cross-game chat...and throw in a HULU app while your at it Sony....thanks!

custom soundtracks are totally up to the developers.

If you want to listen to lady gaga while you play hannah montana then you should talk to the devs and ask why they left the feature out. Sony makes it possible but apparently most devs don't want you doing it. probably because they spend lots of money on sound design and they want people to appreciate it.

I don't get complaints such as this. Cross-game chat is the only item I know people have been asking for from day one that Sony hasn't added yet.

I mean here is a list of some of the things they have added since launch -
* More media formats supported, like WMA and DivX
* DLNA support
* PlayTV
* in-game XMB
* Trophies
* Home
* Dynamic themes
* Printing
* PS1/PS2 game upscaling
* Latest Blu-Ray profile support
* VidZone
* Digital Movie store

So while there are many features still I would like too, including more frequent browser updates, the 'Sony has done nothing since launch' attitude always strikes me as rather uninformed. And they already announced cool stuff like supporting the new HDMI 3D standard with a firmware update.

Personally I think this is an interesting effort from Sony, and while some stuff like cross-game chat is known to them I am sure there will be a lot of smaller suggestions that they might not have realized how popular would be before this.

And where did you ever find such biting wit Space? Chess camp?
Seriously, how old are you?

I shouldn't even respond but you almost bring up a good point. Why are the completely worthless trophies mandatory while functions that could be beneficial to gameplay (like custom soundtracks, native 1080p, filling up the BRdisc with content, and psp connectivity) aren't mandatory for developers to include? I'd rather have any one of those other features.

This attitude right here, that's what Sony got after each and every other add-on from this group of people, and they will keep getting it if they take system resources and devote them to ventrillo (with a new name).

How much money will you pay for this service, and why don't you use a phone conference system?

Some people are simply unreasonable. Most PS3 owners think things are going great for the system. A few cannot be satisfied even if their PS3 turns lead to gold. In-game.

Leif, the in-game music issue is because of a patent troll.

The 1080p requirement would be asinine. If a dev can do something else with the resources it would take to go to 1080p, they should have that choice. Let the best games win.

requiring them to 'fill up the BD with content' sounds pretty strange. Why? A lot of games are multiplatform with a DVD based system.

See, some people will demand more and more, forever. You honestly should have built your own PC.

Actually.
That's what I am doing when the next generation comes around: I'm just going to invest all the money into one good gaming computer (or a cheap computer if Gaikai really proves to be less of a ripoff than Onlive).

After the whole rrod fiasco, we'll be lucky if any of the machines next generation work for a week before spontaneously combusting. Gamers are proving to be the biggest suckers who are willing to pay any amount for empty promises. You guys must be really easily impressed if you think your getting your moneys worth with any of the consoles out there.

Also, you should know that separate phone conferencing is just as pants as suggesting custom soundtrack pushers should listen to their ipod. Really, why don't you buy a a new Bugatti and outfit it with a tape deck.

I have a new ad campaign for them:
PS3- It only does half the $#!+ we said it would.

Fair enough.

Consoles generally do not upgrade like the PS3 does, and though I'm delighted with mine, if you aren't, and just want Ventrilo and stuff like that, get a PC. Then it's on you to make it what you want.

I am a PC gamer, which is great, because the 360 games I want I just play on PC. The PS3 is a great system, but I don't understand it's a console and what that means.

btw, phone conferencing is a pretty modern thing. You can use a cell phone or skype and a PC. you can use Google Talk or something. If it's that big a damn deal to you. I really prefer they not suck OS RAM away for something like that. When I'm chatting with coplayers, I'm playing the same game. When I want to talk to someone who isn't playing a game with me... I pick up the phone.

And just listen to you, Leif. Why should Sony bother trying to please someone as demanding as you? They are doing a great job, adding tons and tons of great features, and I think they've kept their promises for the most part. It's not perfect, but if you're still unhappy, cross game chat, or whatever, is still going to do nothing for you.

Some people are like that. Nothing is ever good enough. Well, Sony is trying to make a profit, and I want them to make a profit so they stay in this business. It's not complicated. I don't ask for the moon, not because I'm lax, but because I'm realistic.
