"cross-platform access to all Valve games to those who already own the PC version."

Dude, it was the first question. Yes... it will work...

Yes, once Steam is released on Mac , Steam Play will allow all your current Valve games to work on the Mac.

This is me just pulling answers out of my ass, but can't you register the serial code for some Source games you bought on a disc to Steam, thus allowing you to download and install without the disc (as if you made the purchase off of Steam)?

If so, then I assume since you technically own the game on Steam, you could download the Mac version. Something to watch out for though.

"What's so great about Win7?"
Everything. From the way it looks, to how intuitive it is, to the streamlined interfaces, extra features, better boot times, shutdown times, and security, 7 is better than XP in pretty much every way you can think of.

This is going to make Mac VS Windows even funnier. Though I have to say the best thing is that you don't have to re-buy the games for the Mac if you already own them.

why will this make mac vs windows even funnier?

Windows 7 kinda made that whole argument obsolete.

as for mac, i am happy they are getting steam, but you need to realize, that for now, the only games that will work for it via steam will be valve games, while great, it's still limited for a long time to come.

i'll ignore the mac vs windows thing, because i don't want to get into that.

it will make it funnier because now mac fanboys can have another reason why mac is better. Which in return will make Windows fanboys have to fight with something else.

XP is awesome, and it's lasted a long time, but it's a real stretch to call it a "better" operating system than Windows 7 or Snow Leopard.

@ Brian (PC gamer extraordinaire)

I work on Windows 7 every day for work, and although its the nicest version of Windows yet, but its still not as polished as OS X. If you're a gamer Windows is the way to go, otherwise I'd recommend a Mac to anyone who wants to be productive and not have to deal with all the headaches.

Well, it seems to me he didn't get some of the questions or they were answered by other person..

Is any part of this decision to support the Mac related to the rise of Apple's iPhone platform?

Nope. Our efforts right now are all about the Mac.

What kind of answer is that?

To clear it up:

Q: Are you putting Steam on Mac so you can move into the iPhone gaming space later?

A: No, we're just working on the computers.

Basically, they aren't making mobile games. I hope this helps.

But the guy didn't asked if they were developing for Mobile, stupid internets!

He asked if Valve was gearing towards mac because of the rising popularity of the platform generated by the sales of the iPhone!

I can't picture Newell allowing his games on the iPhone. There's no way they'd control well. Now, a dedicated iPhone spinoff? Maybe.

No. He was asked if the rise in Apple's iPhone platform had anything to do with their decision to support Steam on Macs. His answer is saying that, no, everything they've done and are doing has been based solely on the desire to support the Mac platform and nothing to do with the iPhone.

Or how about this one?

"We've heard rumblings that the project was codenamed "Piston" and has been in development since early 2008. Can you confirm? If not, how long has it been in development for?

It's Steam for the Mac and it's coming in April."

He asked about the development of Steam for Mac, and its codename and how long it took to develop. Instead he was told what it is and when it comes out. It's like he answered a completely different question than was asked.

What this says to me, is that Valve has something else in the works under that codename, and they arent ready to reveal anything about it yet.

i have used a mac, it was just as simple as a pc to use in my opinion.

maybe it's because i've been using a pc for 13 years, but i also like the option of having a computer in a color other than blind eye white.

Don't get me wrong, macs work fine, it has great first party programs etc.

i just don't understand why so much hype is given to them, obviously i can't be alone on this considering Apple has the lowest market share of any PC manufacturer (im not including the much lesser known brands).

And not to get into this whole thing, but i just hate how the company markets it's products, i just get the vibe that the whole point of it is that you are worthless and a conformist if you don't buy their uncustomizable, unmoddable (at least it frowned upon massively) and boringly designed products (OO ALUMINIUM, shiny! you buy now!).

sorry... i just hate steve jobs.

I purchased mine for gaming and misc tasks, but I also knew what was available.

Considering the specs of the MacBook Pro I purchased, I wasn't planning on running anything huge, but I use it daily for WoW, misc blizz games, gf uses it for Sims, there are craploads of RTS's (Red alert 3 for example) even Halo and Halo2.

Having been an anit-mac person for years I decided it was time to try one so I could have one-up in an argument with a mac fanboy and found them to be decent.

When I get frustrated with it, I simpley press the power button, click restart and hold the alt key and i'm booting into Vista/Win7 in no time

I've always considered using a mac, because I want things like Final Cut Studio and the iLife suite. The thing that always held me back was not having Steam. This could change my mind, if Source games will be compatible.

Then again, there's no guarantee that any other games would be available, like the GoldSrc games. And I hate the mac hardware, and I hate the mac gui, and especially the mac prices.
