Should have been in the second, it could have added a bit more variety.

That's absolutely horrifying. Imagine that jumping at you during gameplay. Irrational should've kept it. Heck, it could've been Sander Cohen's pet! Why not? They could use it as symbolism for the frightening nature of the one-great Rapture.

No, there wasn't a need for Bioshock 2, but I thoroughly enjoyed it anyway. It was a very worthy sequel. I don't even think there is need for a Portal 2, but I plan on playing that.

As long as the sequels continue to be worthy of high quality I don't really care how long they go on for.

Well, I certainly think that Bioshock 3 needs something else. They certainly didn't do enough with the splicers in the second game.

Looks all Dead Space-y.

This was all discussed on their new podcast, which I think is doing terrific: I'd say, on par or even better than the Bungie podcast.

First Bioshock: Construction of FPS, steady deconstruction, ending with destruction of genre.

Second Bioshock: Enhance the first by humanizing the enemy. Break rule of climbing difficulty in games (that HAD to be on purpose).

Third Bioshock: F*ck it. Bug monsters.

"The world of Rapture as it appeared in the first BioShock may have seemed totally complete,"

No, not really. About halfway I got incredibly bored of just seeing the same two enemy types of mask people and big daddies.

I agree. The game only had 7 baddies. 3 kinds of splicers. 2 kinds of baddies plus the "super" variants of each (plus boss). I don't have any trouble believing they dropped characters from the game. It could have used a lot more variance.

Idunno, all the splicers kinda just kinda felt the same to me, with maybe the exception of the teleporting magic ones. What really bothered me was that all the bosses were just the same splicers with a bit more HP.

I personally think that they should make a Bioshock PREQUEL, where you participate in the city before the war, during and inevitably the beginning of Bioshock 1. I think it would be cool to interact with everyone before the war, and watch the city of Rapture slowly devolve.

I agree, and I understarnd what your saying about the MP being about that but I think he meant it to be more of a Sandbox type of a game, maybe a little like Fallout 3, with some GTA elements in it, that would be a worthwhile prequel for Bioshock if it was deemed necessary to make one.

I recall the bonus artbook for the first Bioshock having lots of concept art for freakish mutant monsters that were never actually in the game.

Weren't these bug creatures the concept art they had before they even came up with the idea of Rapture? Before the game took place in an underwater city? Before Irrational even had a publisher, and all they knew was they wanted to do a spiritual successor to System Shock?

GI actually did an article on the game at this phase, before 2K was involved, and before the underwater theme. I remember bug-like creatures in that first Bioshock article, and the article ending with the hope that Irrational would be able to find a publisher for it's strange game.

A BioShock game on the surface would be really good if they did it properly but then it wouldn't be BioShock unless it was before the city was built or around that time. That'd be cool.

"We imagine that people wouldn't look back so fondly on their experience in Rapture if it had been populated by melting guys and people that were in the process of turning into giant bugs"

You kiddin me? The main reason I hated both bioshocks is it's lack of enemy variety. And fighting splicers was never interesting or fun.. ever. Horrible enemies to interact with (not scary, just horrible from a gameplay perspective).

When Bioshock was first announced, it was a completely different concept - it had some very strange mutated things and a much darker tone. What we got was clown city with poor shooter mechanics. A terribly wasted opportunity (not to mention all the bad technical issues). BS1 and 2 are the most disappointing games ever.
