"I highly doubt it would be wireless as a) it's not meant to be moved b) it would then require batteries c) that would increase the cost"

Someone tell this to whoever replaced all the keyboards at Best Buy with wireless models.

Natal will obviously require way, way more power than a wireless keyboard.

I go to my Dad's house every other weekend, my memory card is essential, it's not like a rare one off occurrence, I need to be able to take my gamertag with me.

So use a flash drive. It amazes me how many people aren't getting this.

It's funny how people keep hoping for a blu-ray player in there. I would not expect that huge of a shake-up this generation. Maybe next time around, but I wouldn't count on it right now.

@(Unverified) This console should put back Microsoft on the glory days. The real improvement that I can see with this is its connectivity with KINECT and an expandable storage capacity. Although, I believe its price @ 299 USD is very sweet! And its backward compatible as well. Complete Details: http://2su.de/Qjb

Unless I can immediately recover my account on any xbox console, I need a memory card slot, thanks.

Are you talking about recovering your GamerTag? B/c you can simply do that through Xbox LIVE w/o the use of a memory card.

Not sure if my last comment disappeared into the void, but

No, you can't immediately recover your gamertag through xbox live. It takes an extremely long time, and it sometimes fails. If you had multiple 360's you'd understand how essential memory cards are, unless they change the way account recovery works.

That's not really true. I recover my gamertag all the time when I go to my buddies house and we want to play some split screen game with achievement potential. It does take SOME time but not a lot, and the failure you mention can be prevented by opening up the Xbox Guide while the download is taking place. It used to fail for me all the time but it hasn't since I started opening the Guide.

Now, transferring your saved games on the other hand, would require external storage.

Actually it does take more than 5-10 minutes to recover your gamertag (for some of us). Basically it recalls all the games and achievements your gamertag has.

For those that don't play many different games this may be a quick ordeal but for people like me who have 50k+ gamerscore and 200+ games played, it takes a long time! Last time I did so, it took over an hour.

Basically if you want to transfer your gamertag fast and easily to one of these new systems, you're going to need a flash drive which thankfully are very cheap these days.

i don't think the hard drive will be internal.

i mean.. the xbox already has a sata connector... it uses sata drives doesn't it?

or it will be internal, because ms is ret@rded and sees nothing wrong with making current drives obsolete.

I think it's some type of proprietary connector, so people couldn't just stick a SATA cable in there and hook up their own HDD.

also, those "not sure things" are most definitely not transparent, if that's what he meant when he said the motherboard appears through them and not reflected.

@dr.blight

you mean what ms uses now?

no, im pretty sure people have been using modded hard drives with their 360s.

and if you mean those SATA connectors in the image are proprietary, then no, those are certainly normal SATA connections.

No, I meant the actual connector on top of the console, that the current HDD connects to. That's a proprietary port in the casing.

either way, it's idiotic to assume the hard drive will be internal because he sees a sata connector, that logic makes no sense.

See the proprietary connector on the left side? That's the current connector. The fact that it's not on this unit would point toward not using the existing drives.

"Proprietary" only in the sense that it is a combined connector for SATA power and data. You could still put standard headers on the board if those were cheaper than the custom one, and use a "Y" cable that combines them.

i think you fail to realize that the connector on the motherboard does not need to be the connector that the HD plugs into.

Just like you have vga to dvi and dvi to hdmi connectors, you can have different connectors for this.

It seems like more hassle than Microsoft would go to. If they're eliminating the memory units, adding an Optical port on the board, why not eliminate the proprietary HDD's? That's what the Transfer Kit is for-dump your data to the internal drive, sell the old console.

The optical port is required for my TV, it's DVI-HDCP, no audio on DVI. So I have to use the optical on the audio cable included with my Elite.

you must surely be out of touch with reality if you think microsoft would cease to use proprietary hard drives because it would be a hassle, nothing is a hassle if it can be mass produced and provide hundreds of dollars in profits because the customer has to buy your hard drive.

and is there a reason for the downvote at top, other than ignorance related to the devices you use everyday?

@Brian

The "Not sure" one seems to point to wards the back, the large inside one, the outer one on the corner seems to point to the side. I found the original file off the Chinese site it was clearer than this one. You can see the fold of the metal on the corner piece is on the right side while all the other silver box style connectors it's on the "front" towards the camera.

I'm betting on extra USB ports for the smaller corner and HDMI for the larger one.

@Brian

when he said it seem to go through he didn't mean on the side facing the camera
imagine looking at it as though you were off the right edge, and you'll see what he's talking about. it seems like an L shaped piece of metal, not a box like normal motherboard connectors.

also, if you notice the original only has one sata and one power for dvd, and sata and power are combined for the hard drive off the left (what would be top on the console), since these are now on the motherboard, its assumed that the hard drive structure would be different and most likely internal (or slide out) since microsoft wouldn't be making two connectors and then running wires from it to the outside rather than doing it how they did before.

the memory cards are out for sure which is why the USB storage was brought in, which will probably in fact even be faster than the memory cards depending on your usb, and is already more storage.

Microsoft could be using the over-manufactured HD-DVD casing for the slim 360. The 360 HDD size would still fit.

The 360 uses XFat or FatX if I recall-a piracy measure. Also, the latest PS2 slims have an internal power brick.

Venting like that would be nice but it's not gonna happen. Still, as long as they realize that air moves most efficiently in one direction, not two, and use a fan on the heatsink, they should be okay.

coolermaster is a very good company, and if you think Microsoft is not trying to save money on other things you are surely mistaken (and trust me, they could save alot more money by not using coolermaster).

as cool as it would be to get a new 360 when it comes out, I won't be getting one. I love my 360 as is and I am not willing to sell my 360 after I invested in it to get a new looking one that does the same. Now if your in the market for a new 360, enjoy.
