If you were hoping for a better look at the game itself, you're just gonna have to wait for the next trailer, because this one exclusively features people playing the game's peripheral while either jumping or rocking or ... well, you get the idea -- no gameplay. That said, the guitar solo that takes place about halfway through reminds us that this is absolutely a real guitar, so that's something, right? Right? Where are you going?! We brought punch!

That was still better than any Guitar Hero ad I've seen in the past 2 years.

I still don't understand how you play this game. Do you use the buttons, string or is it a combination of both?!?

Jesus Christ, this is like the zillionth time they "show off" their game without actually showing us their game.
But it does exist, right?

"Let's advertise our game with shots of real people playing it!"
*People stand around looking bored*
*Random cat*
*Staged people doing wack stunts*
"This should sell. Let's upload this"

Wonder what next week's RB DLC will be?
(A play in two acts by a man with too little sleep. Thank you.)

Still, it's already confirmed: this controller sucks as a normal guitar.

I'm not sure the horrible solo was entirely the fault of the pickups. I think that kid needs to learn to play cleanly before he tries to play fast.

as much as joystiq (and some of these comments) are tearing into this, i think this has some great potential. provided the gameplay is solid and assuming that this isn't extremely cost prohibitive, i'd buy one. i can also see people interested in making the leap from guitar hero to real guitar being into this as well.
a new name wouldn't hurt either. power gig sounds terrible.

I agree it has great potential, but I think the reasons people are ripping it up are justified.
As you pointed out the name is stupid... really stupid.
It WILL be cost prohibitive... it's a guitar (including pickups and electics) + controller (proprietary chips to work with microsoft hardware, and probably standard usb for PS3, but the cost is still there...) in one shell, those don't come off the shelf someone has to design and test it... if a plastic shell of a guitar costs (when new to the market) ~$80, and a shit guitar costs ~$80, and it's got more junk in it, and it comes with software that has to be developed... it's not gonna be cheap.
And most importantly they're going out of their way to really market this (this video is basically and ad) and they're pointedly not showing any hint of what the game play may be... not even an idea of the color scheme of the menus... that doesn't say "we're proud of this, come check it out!" to me... it says "you guys like guitars and girls right? well here's some, and it's a game too, so it's awsome!" which is suit speak for "this is crap but look over there until you've bought it please".
I'd really like for this to be fun, well made and affordable... but I already have 4 plastic guitars, and 3 real guitars... I'm the target market but I need a lot more convincing cuz I'm also broke BECAUSE I'm the target market...

This looks really cool but I think it's gonna cost too much? I'm guessing $200.

Ugh. I'm interested in this as I think it's a great idea BUT showing a bunch of hipster indie d-bags "palling around" with dead animals (that was a stuffed actual cat) in their "living room" simply is not it. The one guy with the "ironic sunglasses" looks like he just escaped the Sunday afternoon shift at American Aperral and if you think tossing a girl in there to get the guys interested works it doesn't. (There are plenty of amazing female musicians don't get me wrong but the entire thing just smacked of pandering.)
I'll wait to pass judgment until the real deal comes out but honestly, I'll probably wait until Rockband 3 comes out as I have a suspicion they have something similiar in the pipeline.

I'm pretty much at the end of GH and RB.
this would be new and refreshing and it's a HUGE step away from the fake guitar games. plus I can play real guitar so it's going to be very interesting how this game will be like playing the real thing.

This may be "too much" - I don't mean in price, although that could be a factor too. I don't know how to explain it beyond that.
Then again, I said the same thing when Rock Band was announced, and that wound up being arguably my favorite game ever.

You say "too much" I say "not enough." Seems half-way there.
I'm sure it's a great edutainment title, but if you really want to learn guitar, you're doing yourself a disservice buying this kitsch. Use the money you'll pay for this package and put it towards a decent combo amp, then save up for a mid-range electric guitar or a modest acoustic. You'll thank yourself later, when in 10+ or 20+ years you still have a competent working instrument. That doesn't feel and sound like a chintz child instrument.
Of course, continue playing Rock Band at your leisure as well, because it is indeed really really really really fun. But if you're serious about learning, don't half-ass it. Get the best of both worlds, not a disproportionate modicum of either that you'll be forced to *and gladly* replace with the real things.

I wanna know if they will be adding a Bass too. If so then I''m sold on it. Always wanted to learn how to play bass. Of course it will be 200 bucks. What do you think a real guitar costs? Even if u get the cheapest starter set from Behringer (which my guitar friends say is the most useless piece of shit straight beginners only instrument) is also 200 bucks with amp. Look at this thing as being Guitar lessons that DON'T Suck! U know if u bought a real guitar like that crappy intro set they have at Walmart u know u willtry for a week or so, then get bored cause u suck and let the guitar dust up. Unless of course this game does not make learning fun like the instruction books and DVDs :S. I have high hopes for this!

This game will probably never come out. I can't see publishers getting excited about having to work with retailers to find shelf space for YET ANOTHER guitar.

I wouldn't mind using this guitar for Rock Band. The Rock Band strum bar is terrible for strumming quick notes, (I make my finger and thumb into a pick and strum like a regular guitar) and the GH clicky strum bars feel less like playing a real guitar, which is the feel I'm going for.
Not going to play a new guitar game with it though. I've got Rock Band. I don't need another band simulator game.
