You're a good, conscientious (yes, we spelled that right on the first try) person, so we're going to just assume that you've already downloaded the Splinter Cell: Conviction demo that appeared on Xbox Live today. If not, well, we can just turn our backs and whistle the complete works of Ke$ha while you go get it.
...Back? Great! Now let us never speak of this again. What we would like all of you to speak of is the demo itself. You and Sam have been apart a long time, is the magic still there?

Why does the download link go to Major Nelson's blog instead of directly to, well... ya' know, the actual download page?
That cost me at least one extra second, and a whole 'nother click!

Maybe my over-excitement ruined it, but I wasn't too impressed. The mark and execute thing works fine, but the hand to hand killing seems a bit too simple...getting near someone and pressing B is a far crying from sneaking up behind them and grabbing them in original splinter cells. It also seemed a bit too fast paced, but its something I'm sure I'll get used to. I actually used the sticky camera, which is something I've rarely done in previous sc games. Not being able to jump wherever you want to seems kinda odd as well...you have to walk next to a pipe and press A to start climbing, instead of jumping around which was fun. The interrogation was fun to watch, but not very impressive in terms of playing. The second part of the demo (after the interrogation) seemed to go by a bit quickly...in previous games it would have taken an hour or two to get by all the enemies. I guess it depends on playstyle, I just hope the actual game is long enough.
So while not too impressed with the demo, I'm sure once I get used to the changes I'll enjoy the game more. Still cant wait for April though.

Jumping in a bad place was a quick way to get yourself killed in the first game. That said, the control scheme takes a little getting used to (clicking the left analog stick to reload? really?)
I played through it three times, and then did the first actual room over and over a bunch. First play through was about a half hour, second one was half that, third was about ten minutes. I was playing it like the original, where speed gets you killed.

I had a real hard of for D.A... but idk about this one. I like the mark execution but you should be able to tap left trigger to move from target to target and shoot them in the head yourself. And yes it does seem to fast paced. Why am I reloading with R stick? Why cant I jump? Why cant I roll? Idk I guess I'll get use to it because I'm a big fan. But I sure will miss the spy's vs. Merks.

This is a pretty bad game. And the demo was enough for me to cancel it.

Oh yeah, I agree about the lightning. The black and white gets old, annoying, and distracting fast.
Still going to buy the game but ugh, feel a bit let down. After what seemed like 2-3 years of delay, they've come with something worse than what they had to start off with.

I did not notice the color plate change that much to be honest. I rather liked it.
Also, I agree the button layout is very awkward. I want to get it for PC so i can set my own keys, but idk about ubi putting DRM on their games recently. That bugs me.
Hopefully the console version will let me change the button layout.

Chaos Theory is one of my fav games ever. This game is not for fans of the type of stealth in the first game. This is for fans of Splinter Cell that want something fresh. My only complaints are the awkward button layout and the absurdly easy gameplay. By easy I mean regen health, unlimited pistol ammo, and these new "sonar" goggles that tell you where enemies are even through walls. It's a cool idea, but it makes the game far to easy. I might not use them just to make the game harder for myself.
All that said I liked it. I just want a better button layout.

agreed with thor, if you're thinking this game is like army of two, it's because you're playing it like army of two.
after a few tries, finally managed to do it without an actual real time firefight. this is a lot of fun, looking forward to the game.
the only thing i was disappointed in were the visuals.....some of the characters faces seemed to lack any sort of life, and their movements were a little dull as well. though i should note that anything involving fisher looks pretty sharp.

I def enjoy it. But it's a damn far stretch from the series for sure. Contex sensative jumping? Ughh. Everything else is a welcome rehash tho. But struggling to get the camera to line up just right with that pipe so it says "A-Jump" is frustrating when trying to move quickly and skillfully.

I'm sad to have to say it, but....I'm really disappointed. I'm a huge Splinter Cell fan from the first release through Double Agent. I loved everything about those games (except for the Warehouse levels in Double). Unfortunately, for people like me longing for another classic, but improved, Splinter Cell, this new demo is a big let down. The controls are a little wonky. The tactile feeling of grabbing and choking an enemy from behind is replaced with uninspired melee. Slowly sneaking around and hiding in clearly designated shadows (you know, like a spy) is replaced with just hiding behind something or otherwise out of the enemy's view. No more high contrast lighting. I found the repeated sudden changes from color to black and white irritating. The graphics are not impressive for a new release. Sam moves around like a turbo-charged monkey. It appears that this has become an action game. The demo reminded me of an unrefined Uncharted or Batman AA. I hated not being able to jump. Invisible walls prohibit Sam's movement or ability to hide in areas that appear available. And the camera had some problems. Sometimes I couldn't I couldn't see what was going on because the camera was out in the weeds (or a wall), and Sam goes out of focus when the camera is close. Don't be fooled by the cool looking interrogation scene. It looks good but its actually not interactive and fairly boring. Just press button when prompted. Although the story might have set up a required "change," the previous gameplay wasn't broken. Yes, I could say a few good things about the game, but there isn't anything new or exciting compared with other current action games-- and it's not Splinter Cell. A demo is only good for showing that small games have potential or how great a bigger game is. I expected a lot more from this game after so many years. I'm sure I will still play the game at some point, but now I won't pay top dollar.
