Well, if you ignored to adjust the sales figure with the combined install base for both PS3 and 360 (which is approximately 61 millions), 1 million+ sales in the first week might actually be "THE LARGEST"

FFVII (I'm not a 7 ho, I didn't really like 7 if compared to older ones) sold 2.4 millions in the first 3 days (end of Jan 1997) (in Japan only) when the worldwide install base of PSX of FEB 1997 was 12 millions.

Nothing against FFXIII or its sales, just thinking that the statement wasn't accurate

Well, not sure if you mean U.S. or Japan, or if you've taken into account that it was only released on PS3 in Japan or that the install base for PS3 is smaller at this point than it was for VII, but that's the thing with numbers...

Variables change numbers, just gotta know what end-result you want your numbers to tell others!

It'll be interesting to see the platform breakdown once it's available. I'm still a little skeptical that this will do real well on the 360.
While part of me is somewhat interested in this game, I just can't bring myself to drop $60 on just another pretentious JRPG. I'd rather play Oblivion, Fallout, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, KOTOR.....those type of RPGs are FAR more interesting to me, and FUN. The final fantasy games just are not very fun to me anymore.
IMO, Square-Enix has a lot that can be learned from Bioware and Bethseda if they want to appeal more to western gamers.

My God, if you only knew the similarities... But, I guess that's the advantage I have in playing both:

Does any company provide quality western RPG's (I hate using that classification) besides Bethseda and BioWare? I'm actually dead serious, as those are the only 2 companies people reference, and they usually only reference their recent work.

I guess I could just say Interplay USED to, because they made Fallout 1 and 2. But who else is there? And no, Diablo isn't quite what I'm looking for.

Sorry, I don't buy the nostalgia thing or linear thing for one bit. I don't care about it being linear or not like the previous Final Fantasy games because it is crap.

+Amazing graphics

-bad voice-acting
-one dimensional characters
-20 hours just to get to decent parts of the game (also known as horrible pacing)

This game is all flash, and no substance.

And it will be said again and again until the next single play Final Fantasy comes out and either fixes these flaws, or makes them worse.

Yes well you get your monies worth mate. FF is a quality series. FFXIII was in development for more than 4 years and it shows. It is a masterpiece and the critcisms while valid, do not justify this game getting the kind of negative reception it has.

Yes, but I believe this is the first time a numerical Final Fantasy game(excluding 11 of course) has been on multiple consoles. FF1-6 were all Nintendo consoles, and 7-12 were all Sony.

Gran Pulse requires pure beast mode. I have yet to obtain such a level of dominance. For such a steep slope in difficulty (I'm scrounging for a way to farm CP and/or gil) this game does take a hit. But I would put it probably 5th or 6th in terms of the best of the core games.

FF XIII is good and all but kind of a let down considering how awesome lost odyssey was.... that game is so underrated, not enough people gave it a chance because it didn't have final fantasy in its title... (despite the fact its made by the same people...)

I'm surprised Square-Enix still wants to court the west after the extremely rough treatment FF13 got. (Cash pile notwithstanding!)

People are way too hung up over this.

What is there to read? I see nothing other than sheep willing to buy anything with "Final Fantasy" written on the box. Then getting angry when flows of said game are pointed out. Final Fantasy hasn't been the same since Hironobu Sakaguchi left Square.

Ironic that most of the ones defending the game are those who actually are playing it.

Or did you saw someone here giving it praise without having tried it? Your definition of "sheep" is weird.

The only thing I want to say is in regards to the comment about disliking the lack of towns. The only RPG I've ever played where I've really enjoyed and been interested in what the town NPCs are saying is FFXII. I have never felt so immersed in the atmosphere and locations of a game than in that game. Plus, much of what they say is very amusing!

Basically, since I don't have FFXIII yet, I can't really say whether or not I'll miss the townsfolk, but if the game gets along fine without them, then I probably won't even realize what I'm missing.

To be honest.....after all the hype and the advertising blitz and the fanboys....I expected much higher sales than 1 Million (considering that it was on 2 platforms rather than one).

We'll have to see if it experiences the same dropoff in sales as it did in Japan.

Many of you are acting the same way that people acted when FFVII came out...that it's the best thing ever.
FFXIII's production values are great, and even its story is just now starting to become a little tugging.
Having said that, I have played VI, VII, VIII, X, and X-2, and I am about twelve hours into FFXIII right now. I must say that out of all of them, this one takes the cake for giving me a sense that very little of what is happening on the screen is due to my actions. Some people like the fact that the game chooses all your battle actions, characters to heal, restores your status and HP after a battle, but I don't think I've felt I was so unnecessary in a game. I've practically gone throughout all the battles just mashing on A, with the occasional paradigm switch when someone drops below half health. Sorry guys, but this requires NO strategy. For games like FFVI (which most of you were probably too young to play or remember), you had to think about who to heal, who would attack or defend, etc. More work, but a hell of a lot more fun.
Again, I'm enjoying FFXIII's story, but that's just about it. I will keep playing, though. But it's not just nostalgia. With the obvious exception of graphics, FFVI was superior in every way, shape, and form.

Well, there's more gamers now than 10 years ago, so it makes sense. Still, even tho the game is kinda nice, it's one of my least favorite FFs.

You can say you love or hate FF13, but when the dust has settled and you completed the game, you won't look back at it. Try it one more time to get that ultimate weapon, unlock that hidden character, do that side-quest you missed etc.

In a couple of years people will compare a future FF or other JRPG to FF6,7,9 etc and not to FF13. And you know it.

The graphics are truly off the scale. Unfortunately the rest just ... isn't.
