Really, I'm not trying to start a flamebait here, but does anyone think it's possible that the PS3 could catch up to the 360 by the end of this year if GameStop has a huge income of supply from Sony? I'm expecting this year to be extremely heated with war between Sony and MS, they're near a tie.

Yeah, and a lot of this depends on Natal's success and whether or not MS releases a Slim model. This all makes me even more curious about what's to come at E3.

I actually hope so. I'm not a Sony fanboy, but if Sony can give Microsoft a serious run then they'll try harder to sell. In the end, if these two end up constantly one-upping each other then the obvious winner is... those who haven't bought a console yet, I guess.

Now, if someone could just challenge Nintendo's lead...

Yeah, Dr. Teabag, I see what your saying. And, well...technically, Mac has kind of entered the console war with Steam, which I'm absolutely stoked for. I agree that Nintendo is still playing with their foolery, but with Super Mario Galaxy 2 coming out, Metroid: Other M, and possibly a new Zelda this year, it may be time to turn some attention to them.

Microsoft totally disappointed me last year, but they definitely seem to be upping their game with Alan Wake, Crackdown 2, and Halo Reach coming out. Definitely pumped for this.

Sony has been doing fantastic ever since last fall, and already we've had 3 amazing exclusive titles for the PS3 in the first quarter alone. I'm sure there's more to come from them at E3.

Yeah, I would say we're at the gem of this gen as well.

Well if they're depending on the "motion war" I'm not entirely convinced.

Natal vs Move is a ploy for parents money. No "adult" gamer I know is even interested in waving their body parts around for points/loot/trophies/achievements, whatever.

I do know a few parents who want "move" for their kids though. Because PS3 has a more "mature" library, and move will meet the kids market in that household, so one console will meet both the adult and child demands.

The big thing for Sony right now is they need to push a consistent SKU to the shelves, they've got like 7 different versions of the PlayStation 3 out right now, with varying levels of compatibility with PS2 games. It's confusing for the casual shopper, and it's disappointing for the frugal shopper. The slim is still the best bang for the buck in most cases, but it really is "just" a PS3 console at that point. No backwards compatibility.

kinda nice with the blue-ray/built in wireless/media center capability and the newly added ability to do the whole netflix thing didn't hurt either.

I think the motion war is just going to generate a lot of hype for the wrong reasons. The core features of the console and it's library of exclusives are good enough to stand on their own.

fun fact though, the PS3 version of FFXIII outsold the 360 version on that chart that joystiq posted the other day, I found that interesting, considering someone told me so "matter o' fact" style that PS3 owners dont buy games.

I kinda shot back with the observation that it's funny considering ps3's don't have any hack/mod/piracy scene associated with them, yet if you look, you can't go far without finding sites with pirated 360 games.

As a developer, I think I'd choose to work on the platform that protected my work from the likes of pirates.

It's kind of a shame that some dev's slammed the ps3 out of their own ignorance and lack of understanding on how to program for the cell architecture.

I think Sony's headlining motion war title will be that eyepet game they were going to come out with, but delayed for the motion controller.

They'll probably win a lot of buyers with Gran Turismo 5 when it hits too.

and...

and...

FF14 (I tire of roman numerals)

11 was a console port to the PC, I wonder how this one will turn out, if it'll be multiplatform or just pc only or what.

11 was just for Playstation 2 and PC if I remember.

Personally, I hate MMO's now that I've calculated how much time they've stolen from my real life, but they are the 500 lbs gorrillas of the gaming industry when it comes to generating revenue.

It's kinda funny that people considered Warhammer's MMO a failure even though they had something like 1 or 2 million subs? Sure it's not 12 million, but as a recurring source of income? it's in no way a failure for that company.

OH HEY LOOK, I WROTE A BOOK UP THERE.

TLDR, sure, PS3 might catch up/surpass, but the motion war is just a sideshow at the circus. The main act is still what counts.

Monster Hunter 3, Fragile, The Last Story, Xenoblade, Mario Galaxy 2, Pikmin 3, Red Steel 2, Zelda 2010 Wii, Metroid Other M, Golden Sun DS. Nintendo of all people aren't wasting their time on nonsense. Natal on the other hand....

Hi. My name is Scott. I'm a 26 year old hardcore gamer whos been playing games for 24 years. I own only the Wii as my gaming console, and wouldn't have it any other way. Sure i'd love a Ps3, but my gaming budget is limited, and i have a relative with one if i wanna play it, so meh.

What type of joke is this? Hardcore gamer that only owns a Wii. Please do not even waste your breath trying to tell us it is the only console with core games. The Wii makes shovelware. Yes the 14 year old girls buy it. 90% of Wii's are dust collectors and don't get used past the first couple of months of ownership. After the consumer gets bored of Wii Sports its over for the Wii.

Wow, I understand that you can't understand his choice of entertainment, but you don't have to get all fanboyish about it.

Just because Red Steel 1 wasn't a big hit (though bashed on, it wasn't as bad as people portrayed it... it was sub-par if you expected a lot from it... but people overreacted and claimed it was the worst thing ever. It was sub-par, that's it. Not the worst game in the world), it doesn't mean Red Steel 2 is anything as bad as the first.
It has gotten good impressions all around (other than Joystiq, who apparently only put up a 2009 impression while everyone else had their updated 2010 reviews), and I've heard from several non-Wii-owners that they wish it was sent over to the PS3 (preorder it from any place, and that's what you'll hear from the cashier). So don't discount it.

Quit acting like he's a heathen. You're sounding like an aggressive defensive fanboy.

"The Wii makes shovelware." - observation
"Yes the 14 year old girls buy it." - fanboy statement
"90% of Wii's are dust collectors and don't get used past the first couple of months of ownership." - fanboy rant
"After the consumer gets bored of Wii Sports its over for the Wii." - fanboy rant

Seriously?
"Please do not even waste your breath trying to tell us it is the only console with core games."
He never said that, and was never insinuating that. Once again, instant fanboy aggression.

Get your head out of your ass.

The Best Buys in the San Gabriel Valley are almost always sold out of both the Wii and the PS3. If anything, Target or Toys R Us are probably your better bets since even Wal-Mart is having a hard time keeping them in stock.

Then you're lucky because when I went to buy a slim after my Phat got the YLOD no one in town for miles had any PS3 Slims in stock. Not (2) Wal-Marts, (3) Gametops, Best Buy, Target or K-Mart. The only place I found one was at the Sony Outlet in Silver Sands and that was the 250 GB version not the 120 GB (which I wanted). I asked the folks at Gamestop and Best Buy (whom I know quite well) and they said they only get a few a week and they can't keep them on the shelves. There is most certainly a supply issue with the PS3 right now. Kinda crazy that it happend all of a sudden though.

The Gamestop near me was out of PS3 systems like the first week of December thanks to the Bestbuy near them running out. If I heard right, they hadn't seen any systems unlike a couple weeks ago, and that was a very small amount.

Crazy stuff. Sony never though people would actually want their system.

But, it could be for not. Now with the Forza/ODST bundle at $300, people may just skip upgrading (if they don't have either system) to the ps3, and buy the readily available 360.

Reggie claimed that the Wii shortages would be fixed by the end of the month, and they need to get on this. They're roughly selling equally to the PS3 and 360 (individually) right now, and that's ruinous for marketshare.

Whatever you do do NOT buy a used 360 at GameStop! It is worth waiting if you have to. GameStop can't tell if they are buying a Modded and BANNED 360 from anyone due to their lack of internet connectivity (its 2010 wtf?). You could be buying a banned console that got traded in during the mass Modern Warfare 2 bannings.

I picked a TERRIBLE time to be interested in buying a PS3. This week, between the releases of FFXIII and God of War 3. I thought that's what caused the absolute lack of PS3's EVERYWHERE, but then I kept hearing about nationwide shortages on many websites. Luckily, I did find one online Wednesday so I'm very lucky and thankful for that.

I'm eager to see what I've been missing and I can't wait to dive into FFXIII and ModNation Racers this summer. It'd be neat if Sony began to do much better this year.

For everyone else's sake, I hope the shortages end as soon as possible.

Well, considering that the 3 year warranty on the 360 is expiring or expired for many owners, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if demand for the PS3 is steadily climbing as people are eager to buy a system that isn't going to continually need to be sent in for repair.

You can occasionally find Wiis in stock at some of the stores. Finding a PS3 in the San Gabriel Valley at this point in time is almost impossible. I know that it takes a great deal of effort to retool factories to ramp up production and I'm personally curious about what a PS3 fabrication factory looks like and how many of them are there.

-Uncharted 2 (where the hell have you been this past year?)
-Killzone 2
-MAG
-Demon's Souls
-White Knight Chronicles
-Fat Princess
-Warhawk

I'm pretty sure that there are several more but these are what popped up off the top of my head. Demon's Souls, in particular, is amazingly fun.
