It looks like Dark Horse is chomping at the bit to squeeze a bit more commercial success out of BioWare's deep space opera franchise, following the impressive sales of the Mass Effect comic mini-series, "Redemption." During a Dark Horse Comics panel at the Seattle-based Emerald City Comic-Con, it was announced that Mass Effect writer Mac Walters and John Jackson Miller, writer of the original mini-series, would be teaming up to create a regular, monthly Mass Effect comic.
According to Comic Book Resources, the plot of the series will "follow the second game." We don't know if that means it will actually cover the events of Mass Effect 2, or if it takes place shortly thereafter. What we do know is that the panel also brought the announcement that Patton Oswalt is working on a Firefly comic, which takes place shortly after the events of Serenity, and that's the best news we've ever heard in our whole lives.

1) I will so buy Mass Effect comics.
2) How can you make a Firefly comic that takes place after Serenity when Serenity took place after Firefly? I am so confused. One of my favorite series and now I am discombobulated.

I hope you're kidding. Serenity is the name of the ship, Firefly is the class of ship. The reason the movie was named Serenity was because Fox still owned the rights to the name "FIrefly" (much like the situation with F.E.A.R.)
I love Mass Effect, and I'll probably buy these, but I hope to God they get a better artist on board. It just doesn't do the series justice.

I know all about that onan. Trust me I am a huge fan, but Firefly took place and Serenity picked up where Firefly left off. With everything that happened in the story, creating a comic that takes place AFTER all these events is thin ice. I can't drop spoilers though, but if you're a fan then you know what I am talking about.

To clarify: The cover artist painter is great, however someone else does the interiors, and they're pretty horrible.

That first panel is embarrassing.

Fair enough, I'm a fan of the cast as well.
As far as Firefly, I'm willing to see what they can do after Serenity. If they put it in-between, it won't be able to take any real chances with the plot because of continuity. No new characters, no risk of anyone dying or being maimed, zero risk.

I just really hope it's done well is all. I get fearful of news like this. The idea of a comic continuing from is great but with the characters and all that's happened, I fret.

Dude, there is TONS to write about after Serenity. It just ended with them causing a huge stir in the galaxy... That's like saying there was nothing to write about after the first Matrix or Star Wars or the Hobbit. These are all worlds much much bigger than just one or two stories.

I know there's a huge story that could develop from it. Like I said though, everything that happened at the end of the story was sad and cut a lot of ties. I dunno. I am really big on characters and such. So they would have to be replaced in some fashion. That's why I am fretful. That it won't be AS good.

@onan: I agree with the quality of the artwork. I think its not so much the need for a new artist, but that their results are kind of inconsistent here and there. Maybe if the artist had more time to iterate designs and make every frame sparkle (and had more time and budget to do so). I don't really know how comics are made, but it just seems like parts of it are half-assed, and that's usually due to production constraints.

Generally new comics like this aren't budgeted highly until it's seen how sales are done. I've read so many comics that started out with low grade art that eventually turned into great art because of how well it sold.

Oh...hahaha.... I read Patton Oswalt, the comedian. Wow, I just had a hard fail.
....wait. Really? He is?
Damn. Double fail.

Dude, have you read the comics that Kevin Smith has scripted? People with a sense of humor usually have a sense of vision. They get people more than "artists" do. They know how to tell a damn good story.

Oh, I'm being self-deprecating at myself. I'm not saying he has to be incapable or something. This actually gives me a bit more respect for him as a creator.

"You see that little divot in the middle of the abdomen?"
"Yeah"
"That's called a belly button and you're going to be doing shots out of it later"
Mass Effect 2 background dialog ftw

It's in the club on Ilium. A turian and a human brought their salarian friend to have a bachelor's party at the bar. They're in the corner by the door, with an asari stripping for them. The salarian keeps trying to insist he doesn't find asari attractive. It gets hilarious.

I think I might've been less into redemption if I hadn't picked Liara in the first game and never looked at anybody else in the second. And it's an issue isn't it, what if the story in these doesn't match the one you've been choosing?
You either have to make it peripheral (which would mean less interest) or tie it into main event and characters, which would make discrepancies or vagueness through trying to avoid the former hard to avoid.

They made it. It's called Haol 3: ODST. You play as a rookie on Capt Mal's team with Wash and Jane. Tons of Serenity universe reference in game, including them saying "gorram"/"shiny", Wash being a pilot, Mal being the capt, etc. Honestly, it felt like they just wanted to make a serenity shooter I thought.
