Inside MGC has posted a list of achievements for Microsoft's upcoming Game Room for the Xbox 360. If you're surprised to hear that a series of "interactive menus" has Achievements attached, you're not alone -- we didn't really expect there to be so many points hooked into this thing. There are a full 1,000 achievement points to be had in 56 achievements, and they seem squeezed in there pretty tight -- you'll get points every three medals, and even some points for just spending time in the arcade (36 hours total).
In short, Microsoft really, really wants you to play in the Game Room a lot. There's less than a week left until it releases on March 24, so we'll see then if an enticement like this pays off.
[Thanks, Jason Y!]

I see what you are saying, but for some reason there is something about having the games on your 360, in a nice looking virtual room and playable on the 360 that makes it worth paying for instead of going to atari.com etc.
I don't know why this is and I can't justify it. I just know that I will be spending money on the Game Room when it comes out because of this.

This thing would be way cooler (and way more appealing to me) if it worked with all the arcade titles I already downloaded.
Also, am I the only one who imagined actually controlling your own avatar, walking around the rooms to access the different games, when they first started talking about this? I think that method would have more potential, sort of a PS Home sort of functionality, being able to play games together online or play different games and just chat with friends. Then challenge them to a game of air hockey or billiards down in the next room. That's something I could go for.

Yeah, "Game Room" sounds like an arcade, and hell, adding on top of that the ability to re-organize the "game cabinets" however you like would be sweet as well.
Now, I have to go through some menus to select a game to play through some more menus to play games I had to buy again.

I'd completely forgotten about this. I'll probably forget it even faster when it comes out. Should have named it TOWER OF ROM

i'm a self-described achievement whore, but this is a line i will not pass. i go for achievements on games that i like. i'm not going to pay just to be able to get achievements.

uhm, the game is room is not free. you can download the app itself for free, but it doesn't come with any games. you have to pay for the games, which the achievements require, and i'm not interested in the game room, thus i'm not interested in those achievements.

You guys that are talking stupid about this your not getting the idea at all.I understand the whole walking around would have been cool. But the fact is its neat to be able to have that enviroment when you play these titles. Its lame when all you see is a black screen with boarders the arcade sounds and lights give them atmosphere. Then when you can make it look the way you want. Also its not like these games are a fortune there like 2 dollars each. These are some great games for that price and sure you could play them with a computer but that sucks compared to the arcade feel and trying to beat friends scores over live while in a party chat.Thats another thing you can still talk to all of your friends in arcade.

Microsoft is employing the old "there's a sucker born every minute" business strategy here. I'm sure they will be wildly successful. They won't be getting my money however.

I'm looking forward to checking out the Game Room-- being a huge fan of XBLA releases, and any arcade or emulation releases in general. Some of the classics you tend to remember better than they actually play today, but there are some games I wouldn't mind revisiting.
That there are achievements is an unexpected surprise... but then again, even 1 vs 100 had achievements.

LoL hehe
Its funny when you think of the heart and soul people put into these titles 30 years ago and the hard work people do to make these things available everyone screams free.It wasnt like these people had colleges teaching game programming it was totally freelance computer nerds learning on there own.
It sucks when people would rather spend 60 on a rehash of shooters vs 2 dollars on a original game.
