Modern Warfare 2 double XP weekend starts Apr. 2 on Xbox Live

Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will host its first worldwide double XP weekend from April 2 until April 5 on Xbox Live, just a few days after the "Stimulus Package" maps are set to arrive.

Unfortunately, in conveying this to Joystiq readers -- many of whom are statistically likely to be interested in the news -- we've expanded a perfectly concise tweet into a pompous, self-referential article and unfairly reduced the internet's available supply of letters and punctuation.

Looks like MW2 is going to be busy that weekend.

Thank God for the mute button.

I still wish these games offered a "Mute ALL" option... maybe even a global setting in the game settings somewhere. I just want to play, I don't want to listen to the 12 year olds in between matches either!!! Silence is golden.

You can switch your chat settings to friends only.

@dTondro: There IS a global setting in the Xbox setting so that you don't hear anyone, however that would apply to all games.

MW2 is always 'busy'.

But honestly, it doesn't effect anything. There's no waiting in a line, or being stuck in traffic :P

um, if you want silence you could just you know.... not wear a headset.

seems like they are losing players to bad company 2....

even though the last live report showed them at the top of the list.

In the global preferences there is an option to turn voice volume down to 0. That's what I do and it saves muting everyone as soon as I join a lobby.

I would assume the PS3 double experience weekend will come when the Stimulus package is released on there 30 days after the 360.

Well, they did put in a ps3 screenshot.

Which is quite funny as most people I know with a 360 are adults and the only people I know with PS3s are all about 13.

Why do people say things like that? Oh Xbox is for kiddies, PS3 is for adults. The F* is wrong with people.

I think that stemmed from the PS3 being more expensive initially, plus with its media features and the surveyed demographics, that the PS3 userbase skews older.

There was a report (by NPD I think) that stated that the PS3 had the older fanbase and the Xbox was home to more teens, but in my Experience neither has shown me much maturity online.

@CaramelZappa: Har har, actually the reason I got a PS3 initially over a 360 is because I knew 4 people (7 now) with a PS3 and only 2 with a 360.

@Sharuk007: Well I'll be damned. Took me a minute of studying to see the D-Pad.

in my experience most of the kids have been getting ps3 and most of the adults 360, mostly because of subscription fees for the kids, (i dont think they can add up the fact that they're paying a cash premium up front anyways) and the adults don't mind the fact that subscription usually means more serious gamers.

regardless, my experience on the 360 has been great with the community, my most played online games are gears 2, mw2, pgr4 and burnout paradise, and each one has amazing communities, people who actually feel like people. and really thats all that matters to me at the end of the day.

Does anyone know how these maps will be placed in the rotation? Will it be like CoD4 where they just threw them into every playlist, or will there be separate playlists for these DLC maps?

So, to recap: We have over 100 deeply disgruntled employees of Infinity Ward, who only show up for work each day because Bobby Kotick has (illegally?) delayed paying out the royalties due to them for delivering a billion-dollar title.

These people are responsible for delivering a new map pack on April 2nd.

I am definitely going to be logged in that weekend to discover the dozens of "Easter Eggs" that people find in those maps.
