It would appear that the rock Ubisoft sent out to press may have been a little short on the specifics for all versions of Splinter Cell: Conviction, considering the publisher today confirmed a two-week delay for the PC version. BigDownload spotted an Amazon listing and followed up with Ubi, who confirmed the new release date of April 27.
As seen above, both versions of the game were previously confirmed for release on April 13. We might normally say, "Hey, at least you PC gamers can enjoy the demo in the meantime!" but it appears that a PC demo won't be coming. So, um, maybe you should pick up a good book? And hey, how about that local sports team? Did you read that book about the local sports team?

Cool that will give the crackers plenty of time to have a crack out upon release.

I can only take solace in the thought that maybe it's because they will be taking out the draconian drm...

I'm afraid I see no reason to be downvoted, except for being "whiny", but being whiny in a PC thread, not a console thread so what is the problem? : /
When PS3 owners complain about getting a bad 360 port, they don't get ostracized. Why the double standard?

I don't understand why PC games are getting delayed. It's more easier to develop games on PC than on consoles. Is it because of DRM?

keep in mind that ALL the games are developed on the p.c.... any game no mater which one is developed on the p.c. even exclusive titles are, the only reason for this delay is.. yep you guess it.... they need to chain the huge metallic DRM ball on the game.

I know that all games are developed on computers, I'm talking about PC games.

I'm surprised they aren't holding on to the PC version for six months. If I were Ubisoft, I would either stop releasing things on the PC or strongly encourage them to buy them on a console, where they are much more likely to make money.
PC piracy doesn't just hurt PC sales, it hurts console sales too.

You are totally missing his point. What he means is that if a PC game gets released at the same time as the Console version, some people who might have bought the Console version will choose to pirate the PC version. However, if the PC version comes later, or not at all, they will buy the Console version because they don't want to wait, or its the only option (Console piracy aside, since its less rampant). So yes, PC piracy sometimes does hurt Console game sales, however your analogy is completely wrong.

Actually because you don't have to pay licensing fee's on the pc, they probably make more money, they especially would if the pc version was $60 like AC2.

I think most people who pirate pc games would go to the trouble of modding therir Xbox 360, and this game isn't coming to the ps3, which is the only console of this generation that hasn't been cracked yet.

You know, as much as developers like to ignore it because it isn't as convenient of an excuse for them to be lazy, console piracy is well on it's way to being as prevalent as PC piracy.
So does console piracy hurt PC sales in the case of games like AC2 where the PC version hasn't been cracked yet but a pirated console version has been available since day one?
Does 360 piracy hurt PS3 sales because the 360 is far easier to mod and pirate games for than the PS3? Should they stop developing for that?
Bullshit excuses.
And DRM is NEVER un-crackable. The longer it takes this new DRM to be cracked the more people will be working on it. And once it is cracked, Ubi will be back at the drawing board.
Maybe if they bump their typical PC delay up to a year they wont have to worry about piracy as much...because nobody will give a shit about the game.
Or maybe they should just sell their PC ports at a reasonable price instead of complaining that people don't buy their $60 crappily-ported game on a shelf full of quality $50 titles.

I would argue that people are much less likely to mod their XBox than install a PC crack.

I'm guessing the two week delay is the result of Ubisoft preparing itself for the inevitable and constant denial of service attacks that'll be knocking Splinter Cell's required servers offline just like the attacks that've made Silent Hunter 5 and Assassins Creed II unplayable in various parts of the world; I wonder just how much money they've lost already because of those attacks and how much more they're prepared to lose on future titles using it. That, or they're going to be spending those two weeks coming up with excuses as to why the PC version of the game sold like ass compared to the 360 version for every reason BUT their DRM implementation if the launch goes smoothly.

i don´t think there is going to be a cracked version of this one or assasins creed 2 anytime soon, i think that crackers are waiting when ubi finally decides to drop this on on the cheap basket and then they are going to crack it, once this games stop being new ubi is not going to invest more time or money keeping them in their drm prison, so im sure they are going to release them in a cheap version maybe with another normal protection and cal it a day... but this is going to happen in a year or more so, for both groups who are waiting for a drm free game or the crack version it´s going to be a long wait........

I was considering getting a new xbox to play this game but then rumors about a new slim version of the 360 is floating around so i think i will wait for that news. And I'll hold off on getting Splinter Cell, NO Thanks no game is worth getting with that DRM. I refuse to wear an electronic ankle around my ankle while paying a PC game.

No longer buying this. No longer supporting Ubisoft.
It is one thing that they didn't release a PC demo. That they never spoke up about it until the day the demo released is another.
Likewise it isn't so bad that the PC version will be delayed. That it took someone pressing them for details before they communicated it is another.
The whole authentication thing with AC2 whether it was a DoS attack or simply their inability to handle the number of legitimate hits to the server was almost the last straw for me.
After I supported all the marketing by sending trailers to friends, rating the trailers up on various media sites, getting my friends excited about the game and playing the facebook "game"...
The DRM thing might seem like they do indeed care and want to help make the PC a viable platform for development again... but if they can't even communicate things like release dates or demo exclusivity to us... I don't think I can spend my money on their products.

They need to save their money and quit making games for the PC already. No one likes their DRM and it's frustrating that PC gamers get the short end of the stick, in both terms of quality of these ports as well as the delays from trying combat the so called "lost profits" from downloading the game illegally.
If they are only gonna punish the paying the customer, treat them like dirt and expect them to accept the bullshit DRM they are pushing, they can crash and burn for all I care. PC gaming isn't dying, it's just infected with bullshit big brother garbage that proves you no longer own anything. They need to just admit we are renting their games for ridiculous fees so I don't spend 60$ on something you only play once and forget (assasin's creed 2 comes to mind).
Just call it what it is.

Hopefully ubisoft will just call it quits and stop producing PC games. We really wouldn't miss them. Most of their games are console ports anyway, and if we want to play them we can get a console.
Right now they're just making the PC games industry look bad... the sooner they get out and let decent developers have a clear field at making original PC games the better.
