We never thought we'd have to slap a spoiler warning on a post about downloadable content for the Left 4 Dead franchise -- and yet, here we are. The latest episode of GameTrailers TV revealed an intriguing plot point about the pair of new chapters for the original game and sequel. We respect that some of you might want to remain in the dark about the DLC until you finally get your hands on it. For the rest of you, check out the details just past the jump.
In Left 4 Dead 2's "The Passing" scenario, it was assumed you'd encounter all four protagonists from the first game. Valve's Chet Faliszek revealed the tagline for this scenario is "Nobody Survives Forever" -- as you might expect from the title, one of the original quartet has sacrificed him or herself in the events preceding "The Passing," which will be the focus of the upcoming Left 4 Dead 1 campaign.
This sounds like it could lead to some pretty neat gameplay implications, though really, if we can make through a campaign and only lose one person, that's a pretty good day in our book.

Naw, I'm betting its Zoe.
All the creepy stuff people have made about/with her has obviously gotten to her, and thus she decided to sacrifice herself, not just to save those other guys (who've been taking naughty pictures while she slept), but also because she's sick of all that hentai/modding sh**.
Of course though, people will just "depict" her sacrifice as some crazy zombie/infected orgy, so her sacrifice just fueled what she hated more.

it's Bill, come on, he repeatedly reminds everyone to shoot him if he starts to turn. Bill's the kinda guy everyone should strive to be in the zombieaclopyse, the guy who makes sacrifices! It's gonna be Bill and it's gonna tear out my heart

It's not Zoey because apparently Ellis is going to get a crush on her.
Also not Francis because he going to have some funny dialogue with Nick apparently.
So Bill or Louis, I reckon it'll be Bill though to add some sadness to it, no one would care if Louis died.

I know I have been shot down many times for this idea, but the only way to prevent rage quitting is to make it a penalty they care about. Which means ranks and unlockables....how would it work for L4D without hindering people....i truly havent figured that out yet but thats not my job (though id love to be lead game designer for L4D series)

I'm betting Francis. Following the clichéd "black guy dies first" wouldn't fit Valve's MO.
Perhaps that's how they're going to present Left 4 Dead 3; original cast, only 3 members. FIGHT!

Clothing accessories would be awesome (as long as they weren't toooo ridiculous like TF2 has gotten), but I was also thinking stuff along the lines of new skins for current weapons. Just skins though so they don't get a massive advantage over others (or just make the improvements available in campaign and other co-op modes so as not to ruin any balance, and only skins in competitive modes).
To be honest though, Rage quitting is L4D's biggest problem, and Valve needs to seriously look at it and find a way to fix it.

It would probably be Bill, seeing as how they were unable to get his voice actor to record any new lines for Crash Course. Presumably, they were unable to get him again this time, and reusing old lines won't cut it.
If it's Louis I may have to hurt some folks, though.

what voice actor wouldnt want to be paid to be involved in such a popular title as L4d....what a shmuck, prolly just wants more money. If this is the case, kill Bill off valve.

I think the implication made was that the sacrificed person would be different every play through.

Come on, we know its Francis, im sure at some point he said, " I hate being immune." And thus, died from complications.

I predict it will be Bill. Valve could not get the voice actor back for the L4D DLC (hence why Bill has no new lines), there was some sort of dispute there. If Valve killed any of the characters off, it would be Bill.

They could do a Chef, like on south Park. Cut up previous lines into "new" dialogue with complete disregard for tone.

so i bet they'll kill off four over the course of the dlc's and left 4 dead 3 will have 2 from each game to make up the four protagonists. that or they'll kill off two and make it six player 'left 6 dead'

They could make it a +/- system where depending on your score you have certain items unlocked. This means that if you quit a game there is a chance some of your already unlocked items will be relocked.
It would encourage people to play more to get the higher level unlock-able items while making it so that they can actually lose items for being jerks.
I would say something like +3 for each finished match, -5 for each match you quit out early on (or at least, quit mid-game, they could have a pause between rounds to let people adjust teams), -2 for team killing, and say +3 if you win the round.

I hope it's Zoey who bites the dust. The idea of a female surviving a zombie apocalypse just doesn't seem feasible...

So... if you have to play out this sacrifice on the first game's DLC... are you forced to commit to whoever Valve has chosen to die in the storyline, or are you creating a time-paradox with every play through?
I guess it's not that big of a deal. After all We've all played L4D campaigns where someone hasn't made it to the boat.

ya i completely agree stuff should re lock if you lose rep points or whatever, which is the whole incentive to not quit. Also imagine how much better the community would be if people were forced to play games they were losing in and learn the better strategies. this is why i never rage quit even if im all alone on a team, it makes you that much better.
