If you can't be bothered to wait before getting your hands on Paradox Interactive's Team Fortress 2 meets Tombstone shooter, Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West, Steam's offering pre-orderers a chance to beat the (gold) rush. A press release has announced that the full game will hit the Steam store April 8, and that anyone who pre-orders the game will have access to a beta which will run right up to Lead and Gold's launch.
Haven't been keeping tabs on the title? Check out our write up from our brief time with the game at GDC -- and try to be more diligent with your news consumption. We won't always be here to hold your hand, you know.

Hmm...I wonder if Steam for Mac will be out by then. Valve said it's supposed to be released in April or May.

I have to admit that before I read the article/title I thought this was a new mod for Team Fortress.

5v5 for regular lobbies.
But they are considering dedicated servers (at least for the PC version), so if that comes, there may be more players.

If there's a word I loathe, it's the word "consumption." In the last century "consumption" meant you were going to die of tuberculosis.
Consumption is everywhere, though. Once upon a time, the Internet, and other electronic media, such as video games, were once heralded as the end of passive consumption of content. Now, though, we "consume" games and other content. That's a lowblow—even gamers are now considered passive consumers of content in the eyes of marketers. How far we've fallen…
The idealist in me wants to kill that word as it's currently used because the model of the consumer in the era of global warming, peak oil, and seven billion people is no longer valid.

I agree with your principles, but you might want to change your initial attribution in future versions of this rant, to avoid ad-hoc attacks:
Yes, "consumption" has negative medical uses, but "consume" has meant "to eat" or "to take in" for far longer than that, dating back to the Latin "consumere." And I'm pretty sure that when people started saying that we "consume" media, they were thinking of it in the sense of taking in or metaphorically eating the media, not in the sense of our being a disease. Even the medical variation derives from this; the body appeared to be "eaten up" or withered away.
Still, the connotations aren't any better for that meaning of "consume." The marketers are essentially calling us mental fatasses, defining the image of their average customer as a couch potato gorging themselves figuratively. (and, judging by cross-promotion, literally as well) Actually, though I don't have any evidence to support making such a claim, it wouldn't surprise me if "consuming" content was originally coined as a negative term that subsequently became gentled into common usage by people who didn't get the subtext.
(Also: Joystiq is probably a far cry from the right kind of forum for this discussion. As the previous commenter so aptly put it, "Video Games are fun!")

this uhhh...coming to consoles? I thought it was going to be on PSN and Live as well. The full game I mean, not really the beta (tho that would be nice too).
From what I've read, people playing it on PC think it is a good. The video of the Trapper class was pretty kewl looking too. You can lay down bear traps.

So, I wonder if the 360 launch will be the same week.

The beta is ok but very lagy right now and I hope that gets fixed, if possible, soon. It's pretty fast paced so it's not all going slow or anything like that.

It's only a 13 dollar pre order, not that much risk for what looks like it could turn out to be some fun.

The game is mediocre at best. I understand it's a beta, but give PC players the option of playing first person. Feels too consolish with the third person. Not a fan of the chance to still get shots off once you're knocked down. I do think the game types are neat and the design is really good. Overall though, it might be a fun extra game to have at a LAN party but that's about it.
