He doesn't know exactly when the third Killzone game will be announced, but SCEA prez Jack Tretton does know that it's gonna happen. When pushed by GTTV host Geoff Keighley about a sequel to last year's Killzone 2 on last night's episode, the Sony exec openly answered, "You know, we own Guerrilla Studios, and uh, they did a great job on Killzone 1 and 2 ... I don't know when you'll see announcements about it, but I can promise you a Killzone 3." Pretty straightforward, Jack!
Though he didn't make any promises regarding Killzone for E3, he did additionally note that the news from Sony out of GDC was "the icing on the cake," referring to big announcements at E3 this year as "the batter." And if there's one thing we really, really like, Jack, it's cake batter. You've won this round.

Killzone is perfectly competent but that's about all that I can say for it. They did a lot of great things like fantastic AI, beautiful graphics and a pretty good FPS cover mechanic (once you got used to it). But the story is bland, the characters make Gears' characters look like 18th century philosophers, and the guns are boring (electricity gun excepted and the mech part was awesome). So it's kind of six up and half a dozen down.

I agree with WREturns. They need better and more original writers to avoid the cliches. Kojima should get involved!

Killzone 2 had one of the worst endings ive ever seen, but in a way it was also great. I hated it, because it made me FURIOUS, which is also why i liked it cause most games cant do that. That stupid dumb ass son of a bitch Rico. He spent the whole game yelling "YO SEV! GET YO ASS TO DA CHECKPOINT!" while im getting killed on elite difficulty and he's not doing anything, and then he totally screws the entire galaxy. Worst game character ever.

I specially loved (yes, loved) the controls for this game, particularly in multiplayer. I like the fact that you actually have to think about your next move when encountering the enemy, instead of just pressing R3 to noob-knife someone 6 feet away from you with the speed of a superhero. Strategy and teamwork are the key to success, which can't be said about many FPS, besides BBC2.
The story is bland, but the universe it plays out in is really interesting. The relationship between the Helghast and the ISA is much like Battlestar Galactica's take on humans and cylons, but with a WWII vibe. Just wish Guerilla Games would watch more war movies and get an idea of how a story can develop in a war setting. The Killzone universe has a lot of story to tell.
And the graphics look incredible for a game hat has been out for over year now, even though it only runs at about 24-30 fps. The environments are amazing and characters looks great, specially the Helghast.
Can't wait for KZ3, and hopefully it can reach Uncharted 2's sales.

i dont know how come no one commented on the controls of the game. graphics are excellent imo. but the controls werent smooth for a fps. i had a hard time shooting at people that were strafing down distance. the gun would move smoothly like cod, it would jump in increments. unless it was patched after i stopped playing.......

I think you can turn those on in the options, maybe not, I haven't played it in a while.

You can go in options and have your controls exactly like COD.

@ Ballistic - Okay . . . Who said anything about making their controls like CoD? I already stated I use L1 for aiming, my only concern is that you cannot make it so you don't have to hold L2 to crouch. It is a huge hinderance - having to use two fingers to cover both L1 and L2 so I can aim and take cover at the same time, not fun! You ALWAYS have to hold it in single player to crouch and take cover.

Killzone looked nice, but a mediocre shooter at best. i guess if you make a sequel for "just cause", you can make a series for anything.

Mediocre? Really? Have you played it? I had more fun in the multiplayer than any other shooter last year.

Sure, they ended up making a sequel to a mediocre game...and it turned out to be a blast. I mean, the demo for Just Cause 2 is some of the most fun I've had in a demo since Crackdown.

I agree. The multiplayer was so fun. I loved the little blip for getting headshots. I loved the squad system too. Everything about that game was just so amazing to me. Hard to believe it came out last year though. Feels a good two and a half years old.
I hope Killzone 3 comes in here next year and rapes everyone's faces. They've got the engine, make some tweaks and push that shizzle to the limit. I can only imagine what kind of things it will bring to the table... But as long as I can play as the Higg's in multiplayer, I'm down with that.
Seriously though, there's something magical about making that split-second decision on if the dude running up on you is a Sabo or not. Also, that game made pistols cool, another reason I like it. I could use my pistol and actually have a chance.

I agree with the 6,000 dollar suit. Come on!
The Just Cause 2 demo is having me itching to split that game with it. It's too big for a rental (for me; I'm sure some of you could beat it in 4/5 days), but it's not really a purchase kind of game.
Because I'm a poor kid w/ no job nooooooooooooooooo

If it improves upon the few minor downsides that KZ2 had, I'll pledge my support as well.
I'll never forget how impressed I was with the AI by the end of the game.

I feel like Sony needs to focus on one FPS franchise, not two. We've got reports of both Resistance 3 and Killzone 3, and they have Uncharted and SOCOM to cover the TPS market.
Microsoft only really has Halo in the blockbuster FPS department, and Gears in the TPS department. I feel like Sony, by publishing two huge FPS franchises, is almost splitting the market.

I don't think it really matters, they are by different studios and are both well made. It's not different really than L4D and Halo on 360. I don't think the majority of gamers really care if they're both first party.

Yes. You missed the point. What I'm saying is that the it's not like the majority of gamers think "Oh, Killzone is the same publisher as Resistance. I think I'm gonna only get one". So I don't see how it's any different than a third party title...

Make that three now: Killzone, Resistance, and MAG.
Also three on the TPS: SOCOM, Warhawk, Uncharted.
But I agree on the whole. I wish Sony would stagger their releases a bit better. I think they learned from their 2008 blunder, with Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, and LittleBigPlanet, and SOCOM right on top of each other then KZ2 less than four months later. 2009 was much better paced for the most part though, and so far 2010 is looking to be even better paced (then again, E3 is going to bring a smattering of new announcements for them, among them I'd assume KZ3 and R3).

@ Traceur
What I mean is that if you have the two coming out close together, you could have people who say Oh, Killzone is coming out right after. I think I'll just wait for that. Similarly, you have people who are going to abandon Resistance once Killzone comes out. One game has the potential to kind of kill off the other.
